  • Thank you so much for posting !!!!!!!!!!! Fell in love with this song since the first time I've heard it...thanks to a French radio station that is very ecclectic !

  • I think Mike Scott was living in NYC at the time - you can hear a bit of Gangsta vibe in this, which is one of the songs hidden subtleties

  • a trip and a half...

  • an absolute mighty song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • CLASS

  • There is a green far away i'm going back there one fine day! Hurray up one fine day. I long for that green hill!

  • Beautiful classic song .... what a special find this was! Thank you for posting this little piece of Heaven ...

  • bella..

  • awesome song why is there not more like this anymore

  • the least used backing singers i have ever seen

  • @HockeyJock310589 Lmfao so true...

  • I live in Glastonbury. . Waterboys can come see me anytime!

  • I think the message from this song is evident: that God exists and has always been there. We just need to believe and accept His love and one day we will join Him in His beautiful land of green hills and whatever else you consider would be perfect paradise. I hope you will all be able to understand...

  • @ginothespazzin91 so true

  • @ginothespazzin91 in my paridise there is no fake god.i just found god was never there like he always was

  • *sigh* :-)~

Mike Scott is my imaginary husband, LOL

  • reminds me of when my first child was born - cant believe it was so long ago still love it so much

  • This is probably the best track on Dream Harder...the worst track being The Return of Jimi Hendrix...I love The Waterboys but that song is just...horrendous!

  • @desolatesoul87 I don't think you know where respect is due.

  • Feel good song....

  • This song is about The Green Fields at the Glastonbury!!And that's the truth!!

  • @Dolphinheadful I meant yer man talking over it there! ;)

  • doe he mean carraroe in galway

  • Bdass. I also highly recommend Towers of Asia. It will change your life! See my channel.

  • Can anyone tell me on what album the song `Don´t bang the drum` is?

I'm looking for a piano version of this song and i don't mean the live version.

The song apeared on a 12 " called the medicine bow, B-side.

I can't find it, pls help.

    Thanx a lot !!!

  • @easyaloha It's on the album 'This is the Sea' from 1985

  • @easyaloha someone has probably already told you this but its on 'This is the Sea' - the album also has 'Whole of the Moon' and the epic song 'Trumpets' hope this helps!

  • @leejamestaylor, thannx a lot for your time but what i'm looking for is a piano version it,s a sort of unplugged version of this song played by the waterboys themselves.

    Thnx.

  • @leejamestaylor Sorry Lee its not on 'This is the Sea' unless its a later edition with extra tracks, it's on 'Dream Harder' a much later album.

  • @leejamestaylor Lee it's on 'Dream Harder' not 'This is the Sea'

  • memorex?

  • @enyrb 'Brú' does not mean mansion, dont mind google. 'Brú' means 'fortress' or 'fort of' and denotes a place where a local chieftan or king lived and held his territory. This would pre-date any English or Norman built Castles, so he is referring to Newgrange, even if it is by accident!

  • The best song of 93! Love it :) Shame the end was ruined though,,..

  • @LeaLees dude the end is the best part of the song!!! Class song overall though.

  • really really one of the best waterboys songs ever made

I took a tip from the buddha boy

  • @enyrb probably. Stlll think it's slane cause Slane Castle is right on the banks of the Boyne

  • @enyrb Teach mor is the Irish for mansion

  • its about a scot travelling through ireland the green hill is the hill of tara co meath ireland and the mansion on the boyne is in navan

  • @pauliepaul1980 Could that mansion on the Boyne be slane castle too??

  • @enyrb aye son......its aboot green hills far away and just waitin' (for) to get your wings...and that you forgot something....and a golden age

    and going back

  • love.

  • A Green Hill Far Away

    nuff burped

  • Amazing! search also Samuele Bersani Cosa vuoi da me. is the same song!

  • They are really good! =D Love this song and Fisherman's Blues!

  • Brilliant!!

  • 175 taylor i totally agree this song always also reminds me of derry ,the friendliest city in ireland.

  • very debatable

  • derry is a shite hole.

  • @libbertines hahahaha

  • FRICKEN EPIC!

  • A classic written and performed by one of the most under exposed bands ever. I listen to the lyrics and with each passing year they have a stronger connection to my experience of life.Dream Harderhas to be one of the best albums ..ever.

  • Poet, Songwriter, Spiritual Being, adore the Man. Love the words - "I just found God where he always was" - Inside each and every one of us.

  • @rockchick80s he's my definition of a beautiful man.

  • Mike Scott just walked into the Net cafe im here in in Dublin.... had a brief chat with him about missing Cornbury 2006 and having us all to put up with Robin hitchcock instead [God forbid]. What the heck... i couldnt resist telling him that this song is one of the greatest ever...He was v gracious and good humored...... rock on Mike.

  • He was probably here for the Guinness 250th Anniversary Celebrations

  • Hi, sad inbreed shortarsed loser eoinroe, i'm designing the soundtrack for a film [already shot] set in the early nineties at the moment, and will be using one of the Waterboys' tracks. What papers do you sell, loser?

  • your response to eoinroe47 was excellent!

  • Thanks, Peter. By the way, do you have a site with samples of your playing?

  • I ragazzi acqua non temono il fuoco! Grazie Shika per la condivisione!

  • amo questa canzone

  • ta na Buachailli uisce banna ceoil ana mhaith ar fad. Ta an suimuil ag mike scott sa naidur agus na rudai simpli ar an domhain, agus is feidir linn e sin a eiscint san ceoil.

  • Ni amhain san naidur ach i gcursai sproiduil freisin. Is doing liom go gcuireann se an dha rud le cheile go h-iontach san amhran seo. (Gabh mo leith-sceal le mo chuid gaeilge... saghas "rusty" ata me !)

  • Waterboys,pure class!! nuf sed!

  • waterboys are gods of music and mike scott is Zeus!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Absolute Class song! BRILLIANT!!!

  • assomiglia a "luca era Gay "di Povia

  • in effetti...

  • altro calafato...

  • Go ana mhaith ar faid.

  • best song i ever heard

  • Aint it just? aint it just? to be in the Studio when this was finally mixed, on first ever playback..... Goosebump city. Mike Scott, you're something else.

  • This is an absolutely fabulous song listen to the words its an origional and has meaning. The waterboys and the bands of the 80s carved out musical origionals that other artists copy today, they cant make origionals like this and dont have the guts to try!!!!!!

  • ottima.

  • splendida. Anch'io ho una marea di ricordi legati a questa song

  • Obbligatorio incastonarsela nel cuore

  • cosa vuoi da me - samuele bersani

  • Simply great, among my all-time favourite songs.

  • ...I just found God...

  • I remember this song as if it were yesterday, 90's era single handedly the best era ever in music, and the best song very inspirational and original music remind me of a younger and more naive time now we are plagued with EMO music nothing will ever be the same again

  • ahh think the 80s wer more creative and original .. never really liked the 90's spesh the manc 90's hehe ;p

  • essa musica´´e muito boa, excelente canção, que ficaras guardada por muitos anos.

  • This song must be added to everyone's favourites. If not, then I suspect you just haven't heard it 'til now. But now that you have... go on... you know it makes sense.

  • This is actually one of the best songs iv ever heard!

I was painting aquarelles of a Green Hill (far away)

when i first heard this song, so you might understand

i was amazed hearing this song at the time... now being

28, i havent heard it since doing that painting at age 13...

  • very nice song!

  • Mike Scott is my imaginary husband! lol

  • best song ever written!

  • Cant but agree with you! Theres just nothing that compares to it!

  • Love this song!!

  • Great song. The vocals are live, the music canned.

  • talk radio !!!!!

  • buona notte Roma!!!!!!

  • Just love this song...xoxoxoxo

  • Oh goodyear 1885!O you cynic..how can you say no one listens to the lyrics?Once you were tethered, now you are free!

  • The waterboys are a fine 'concept'(as someone commented)

Mike Scott is the driving force and hey use as many musicians as it takes to deliver great music and lyrics. They all get paid for helping deliver us some fine songs over the last 2.5 decades.

But as an unsuccessful songwriter in my time (I just played at it) - apparently no-one listens to the lyrics...???!!!

    Great band

  • seen u about forres and always wanted 2 say i thought this song was one of ur best in my opinion!!

  • Brill song, but keep looking at the bloke supposedly playing the guitar, hilarious.

  • MIke Scott is my imaginary husband! Woooo!

  • where's the waterboys' in this video?

  • Take it you're being sarcastic here! Mike Scott was the only remaining member here, I think the last member left in 1993.

  • im sorry sr but u r the one that is wrong the waterboys are still together and still preform

  • What I meant was that Mike Scott is the founder and only permanent member of the Waterboys. Over the years there have been almost 30+ musicians who have come and gone and have been classed as Waterboys(some of them have stayed permanantly from 2000 onwards. I think Scott has always perceived The Waterboys as a concept - not a fixed permanent band as such.

  • im just glad there r other waterboys fans that no as much as me and u do

  • Saw them only once - over 25years ago at a massive football stadium in Glasgow. They appeared with Simple Minds and Llyod Cole, their performance always stands out in my mind.

  • you would be rite there...such a great song writer who never settled for a fixed line-up..no bother, it didn't stop Robert Smith from continuing o'er the years with The Cure either!!

  • Saw them over 20 years ago, Simple Minds, Genesis, Llyod Cole were all on the same bill, they still stick in my mind as being amazing!

  • Great song, but I have a question. Maybe I have the title wrong but the song Im looking for is "We will not be lovers" obviously by the Waterboys. Can't seem to find it. Can anyone help

  • "We will not be Lovers" is on the Fishermans Blues album, recorded in Spiddal, Co. Galway, Ireland.

  • Am loving this song so much! It's good to see my girls, the fantastically voiced Tawatha Agee & Cindy Mizelle on Top of the Pops doing Backing Vocals on this! I think they were touring with Luther Vandross in the UK at the time so kill 2 birds with one stone & all that! Great post!

  • Mike Scott is bloody Jesuschrist.

  • mike scott is the real thing.

  • agree with you 100%!

  • me and my husband love this tune hes been to glastonbury i havent i will visit the green hill very soon

  • mike scott is my imaginary husband.

  • Such a happy sound amid such an atmosphere

  • One fine dayyyyyyyy! The God he refers to I believe to be Ultimate Mind, Christ Consciousness, that which cannot be defined but must be instead experienced to know. Peace.

  • Reminds me of my Gran or Nana as we called her,a real believer in folklore and fairy forts in Ireland..long before tv..I miss her so much..

  • there's a green hill far away in India, and also in Goloka Vrindavana, where we can return to one day. yer man met loads of Krsnas' in Glastonbury in the green field(i know this 4 sure..but hey i could be wrong...Peace !

  • does my soul good to see this again, thanks for posting, but 14 years!! I think I need to move out of my little time bubble.

  • Great song, but I dontquite get it - who is the God he is referring to?

  • Hare Krsna

  • GOD is who ever you make him as long as you have one hopes MR.Scotts GOD brings him to Minnesota U.S.A. soon i need to see him live very badddddddd belf77 P.S. we have the green hill in northern Minnesota its very beautiful there. we call it GODS country

  • Been wanting to see this for sometime. Great Song, one of my faves. Great to see Mike Scott is back today in 2007. Scott Thunes (former Bassist for Frank Zappa) is performing in the Video on the far right of the Stage. He played on the whole Album too.
