  • doing a assemblu about the vikings this is our entrance song

  • I love Andrew's music so much, I actually bought it. Like paid money for music, that shows his genius if nothing else does.

  • one of my favourite songs - buy on itunes to support him!

  • andrew white is my name

  • You and Andy McKee should do a piece together, I think that would be an awesome piece

  • realmente uma linda música e uma execução ao violão fantástica

  • Yeah I hear ya on the cord progression, there's not many people out that make it w/ just a few cords. Except for little guys like Tom Petty and so on.

  • So just got told that Andrew is staying at my mates house after a gig and I'm going to jam with him! Score! :3

  • well done andrew nice voice nice tune-what makes the guitar?

  • Wow. I like this guy's songs and all but damn, the last three that I watched (this, Far, and Traces of Silver) all use the EXACT same chord progression Am - F - C - G, with a G#dim as a transition between the G and the next bar's Am. That is just... disappointing

  • @Ch051 It's not really disappointing. it just proves how original a person can be with the same exact chord progression. It took me a while to realize that he used the same chords, and I was even more impressed when I realized it.

  • @Ch051 plus also take in consideration the capo. Makes a difference ;)

  • @Ch051

Why is that disappointing? While all the songs have musical simmilarities, the meaning and the feelings they convey are very different.

  • GODDAMMIT i wish i had an accent :/

  • NOT BAD...IS THIS GUY IRISH???

  • @IRLPOKERBRAT13 No, he's a Geordie.

  • Huh, as if his guitar talent wasnt amazing enough, hes got a totally spell binding voice that is keeping me completely entranced....what an astounding individual

  • 10 people didn't find the holy island

  • realy good especially intro =)

  • realy good ^^

  • candyrat does know how to find musicians

  • Wow, i want to visit Holy Island :)

    //mmacritic

  • Andrew White: Thank you. What more can I say. I love the acoustic guitar

  • I 'm from Northumbria not far from Holy Island, if you saw the place this song becomes so real...great storyteller

  • @yatsa sounds like a truly beautiful place, never heard of it before. where in the world is it?

  • @19wayfarer19 just off the North East Coast of England, close to the scottish border region, you have to drive over or walk via a tidal roadway...a few people have tried to beat the tide and their cars have ended roof high in water....happens every year usually vistors to the area..google it worth a look

  • @yatsa i figured it was in that area, thanks for the info. ill google earth it, have a looksee haha.

  • @19wayfarer19 enjoy lol

  • Oh wow, I like his voice.

  • ok, who are the 10 who gave this a thumbs down?

  • This song always reminds me of Avalon, island of priestesses and the Lady of the Lake. =)

  • he has been known to perform @ Ballymaloe in County Cork Ireland. Have you heard of this place?? He may be there this summer 2010.

  • i aint afraid 2 die at sea now cuz a the Holy Island

  • Wonderful, really would like to get the tab of this song, with the lyrics, I aint got a good english :-)

  • wow.

  • I would like this song in HD! :)

  • Totally outclass! Best! Awesome!

  • How I love his voice and music,...very inspiring! I bought his album in a small cd store in Holland, they really promoted him!If you read this; Good luck with your music! Have you tried Ireland, career wise? such a great music country...

    Love,Evelyn

  • Um, one correction, I think it was I heard SAINT AIDAN call my name-- NOT 'Satan'..quite the difference! Saint Aidan was the founder of the monastery on Holy Island.

  • Good very very good!!

  • beneath a blanket of stars we sang our tunes,

we laughed and we talked 'till the moon kissed our eyes,

fell asleep under north umbrian skies..

  • @jimbody1

Thank you for the lyrics !

  • We climbed the castle walls, I looked around,

The sea went on forever, I swear I heard the sound, Of angels sing,

To holy island, to holy island, all your troubles bring

On holy island, there's a light for ships that are lost at sea,

On holy island, oh there's a place, sanctury,

Should your craft a-come upon on that stony ground,

On holy island, on holy island, you'll be found,

    on holy island..

We got caught by the tide so we slept on the dunes,

  • He said let your heart become a burnin' flame,

On holy island, oh there's a light, for ships lost at sea,

On holy island, oh there's a place, sanctury,

Woke in the morning with a mist in our hair,

tired and hungry but we didn't care,

a fisherman was mending his net by the sea,

as we passed by he said to me,

'On holy island, oh your lifetime can seem just like one day,'

'On holy island, oh your heart can get swept away on the tide,'

On holy island, on holy island, a mystery hides,

  • the lyrics are as follows (this is my first time writing lyrics by ear but I'm almost positive they are accurate)

We got caught by the tide so we slept on the dunes,

beneath a blanket of stars we sang our tunes,

we laughed and we talked 'till the moon kissed our eyes,

fell asleep under north umbrian skies,

    restless dreams I walk alone,

    by thundrin' shores, ancient stones,

I heard satan done call my name,

He said let your heart become a burnin' flame,

  • Now how about the Holy Mountain? ;)

  • what kind of guitar it is?

  • bit late.. but i'll reply anyway

    it's a Yamaha LLX36C. It's a bit out of my price range haha ; )

  • say.... standard tuning?

  • I think so : with the following chord progression :

    Am F C G

i may be wrong but it's the same chords he uses in "Traces of silver", which i love a little better...

    Great artist anyway !

  • @DavidClerk Yepp I think to that's the right chord progression. After the G he loves to use that diminished Chord on the G# before he goes back to the Am. For those who don't know about diminished Chords, I think it's like this:

    E X

    H 3

    G 4

    D 3

    A X

    E 4

Surely a great song and songwriter : )

  • @mayakikun

Yes you've definitely understood the song better than I ! Thank you for your explanations ! Take care !

  • Traces of Silver is almost the same chords. Only difference is that it taken a whole step higher. So it'd be:

    Bm G D A

  • @milleniumsamurai

    You're right, my friend.

  • Stellar job and love the name...I'm Andrew Whitehouse

  • really nice

  • beautiful.... but stll not Sand Dragon!

  • fucking true. never thought of him tat way :)

  • wow holycrap he is freaking talented like crazy

  • It sounds really irish

  • I am getting this guys cd for sure!

  • this song is epicly beautiful to me...This should be Britains national anthem, HOLY ISLAND!! :D

  • down in the shadows of the backstreets the old dirty lantern shines up the cracky wall with light... the leaves floats through the streets as an sailboat on the sea... you can hear the thousands voices from unknown people go by your ears as chillout music..

  • Splendid....

  • just great. Amazing voice and what a good guitar playing !

  • Beautiful song..Because of acoustic artist like you and many more, I Enjoy acoustic much more than i do metal =] its just to beautiful 5/5 man

  • Great music Brother ... God bless you

  • ...same changes as "Traces of Silver" just down a couple frets...

  • you're right! but both awesome songs although! xD

  • doud but what if the tuning is not an e tune?

i dont know what the tuning is....or its a eadgbe??

  • seems like it's eadgbe to me... well i'm not sure but at least it can be played on normal tuning quite well.

  • I dont ever get tired of watching this video. It paints a very pretty picture.

  • very nice piece of sound

    (don'talk about shitty american beer/ pee-water :D)

  • i love your style

  • nice

  • I think i will buy, in one massive swoop, the entire candyrat catalogue.

  • I was thinking the same thing

  • Wow...so good

  • Yes this Is real. This quality worth time to listen to.....Over and over.

    Thanks! Keep shining..

  • Candy rat is to music what Sierra Nevada is to beer: home grown, organic and not all shitty like mass produced skunked Budweiser.

  • ha great analogy

  • lol i like that

  • @ebroome

    Great analogy. ^^

  • @ebroome lol nice Beer asscosiation

  • @ebroome agreed, except A W doesn't cost 4 quid a pint...

    ^_^

  • I hear a little Peter Gabriel in there. Really good pipes for folk.

  • beautiful. really like this one. Good stuff!

  • is that only me or when you hear that voice you beacome calme...?

    he is very good....

is that andrew white from the guitar compeny?

  • no its not

  • totally agree with you =]

  • @ iamrobertpaulson

Misspelling? Its called adapting the word into the music to make it fit more, from what it seems, people love it, and this is a beautifull piece of music, so why be so stupid ? :S

  • Really, his voice sounds like peter gabriel(Not during Genesis)

but regardless hes a great song writer.

  • beautiful!!!!

  • beautiful

  • my loincloth has officially been soiled

  • tu canción es maravillosa. Me evoca los espacios abiertos de Irlanda, su clima y sus paisajes. Enhorabuena y gracias por tu música.

  • Wow. Absolutely mesmerizing.

  • lovely piece, and it doesn't need it but I reckon a string would go well, cello perhaps? what do folk think?

  • i saw this dude at the chester playhouse in nova scotia, blew my young musical mind way back then, and it has the same affect now. ballin shiz whitey!

  • veryy good

  • That's a sweet tune man Rock on!

  • oh my gosh, have finally gotten around to googling andrew white, saw this guy in the Blackbird, Ballycotten, co. cork ireland, bout 5 maybe 6 years ago, loved him, got a cd,Pray for rain, loved the song about east cork, Christy Whelan sings. Have been playing the cd for a long time and kept wondering what had ever happened to this guy we say in the tiny fishing village. would love to get newer cds, can I find out where. loved Pray for Rain in its entirity. Jean.

  • Truly magical, and as beautiful is any song i have ever heard, i'm guessing thumbrian skies is a reference to northumbria

  • Brilliant - he and Christy Moore were brothers in a past life by the sound of things

  • he's from newzealand...i know him really well.

  • no, from newcastle upon tyne..emigrated reluctantly with parents to nz in '74......

thank god !! it's the most amazing country in the world.

I'm going to do guitar workshops there every year........

    keep your eyes peeled!

    Andrew

  • Is it just me or does his voice sound a LOT like Peter Gabriel? (that's not a bad thing in my personal opinion, I happen to be a big Gabriel fan)

  • Wow I was just telling someone at work that. I didn't see anyone else mention it.

  • briliant. respect for Andrew! ; )

  • i can hear he has an accent, but what is it? it sounds north european but i can't place it..

  • sounds irish?

  • shut up banaaaan u troll suck balls..... this guy is sick!

  • What we "tend to forget" is that Andrew has been around for quite a lot of time, much more then most of the great young finger forces we have seen in last years. He is an innovator on guitar and a big influence for whoever heard or seen him live. Making magic from those "regular" chords is the true gift, btw try to work on the exact patterns he uses with the little twists in this song, it is not easy especially when singing along. Not to mention his instrumentals, top workout stuff.

  • i agree that this song is a workout abakashi! i bought the tabs around last christmas and kinda never got round to this tune but now i have!its a pretty easy song to get to grips with but trying to put the accents in the right place and play it cleanly is something i'm definitely struggling with!

great tune andrew, i'm staying on holy island this new year-i'll try and play this tune when i'm there!

    ^_^

  • Amazing!Nothing more to say, just close your eyes and enjoy some great music:)

  • I love this song. Anyone know where I can get the sheet music?

  • it is your opportunity to say thanks and support Andrew White and candyrat - order it online from candyrat site..

  • Perfeito!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*.*

  • his voice is like really creamy irish butter on really soft and fluffy bread.

    amazing

  • andrew is amazing... and hes a really nice guy. i had the honour of running his sound board at my school and at a resturant here in antigonish. it was amazing, greatest shows i've ever done.

  • allmost all of his song is in the same chords and melody but he make something who do the songs so diffrent , thats what I call talent!

  • allmost all of his song is in the same chords and melody but he make something who do the songs so diffrent , thats what I call talent!

  • is Andy a Peter Gabriel's impersonator or what? ;-) Excellent piece. Great guitar skills.

  • his voice and song building remind me of Gabriel as well. I don't understand the - points for this comment. Gabriel created the most wonderfull music I've ever heard (well among others but still!), I always sit in tears listening to the ochestra at "father, son" and get goosebumps throughout "sky blue", "signal to noise", "the drop" and "here comes the flood" for instance.

  • i can't get enough of this ...what an incredible writer

  • i love this guy ...perfect!

  • amazing.

no other way to put it.

  • i think every artist and song that comes out of candyrat gets rated 5/5

  • Agreed!

  • totally justified. this guy brings a new style to candyrat. awesome.

  • yep, these guys all make great music.

I somehow feel the spirit of true music here, a feeling i thought was long lost.

Ever since I discovered candyrat my wish to hear music intuitively brings me here often times.

Great work, I wonder why still the word about candyrat is so low around here (germany).

    Greets

  • Omg ! I love this song !!! Very beautiful guitars :D

  • Up to this point, it's all been about guitar for me... But if you listen to the story... There's unseen beauty.

  • ya i didnt catch that many of the words. i was paying too much attention to his talent on the guitar.

  • Awesome. Really enjoyed it.

  • i newer get inof of this song.

the best song i ewer pas by.

  • andrew white

    andy mckee

    antoine dufour

    don ross

    GODS

  • so true

  • Don't forget Nicholas Barron.

  • don't forget craig D'Andrea either

  • Fuck Nicholas Barron.. Honey Lemon Tea my ass.

  • lol it's made up by the same chords as traces of silver just without the capo (I mean the refrain).

  • naaj

  • I love how he constantly and subtly moves his hand closer to the bridge and then closer above the soundhole to change his sound.

  • no its nog gospel but i'm sure he got this jmusical gift from god...

  • the songs on the white andrew is gospel?

I ask because I speak only Portuguese.

  • no just seems like it

  • who gives a shit bout storys, his music it's blessed
