Yeah I hear ya on the cord progression, there's not many people out that make it w/ just a few cords. Except for little guys like Tom Petty and so on.
Wow. I like this guy's songs and all but damn, the last three that I watched (this, Far, and Traces of Silver) all use the EXACT same chord progression Am - F - C - G, with a G#dim as a transition between the G and the next bar's Am. That is just... disappointing
@Ch051 It's not really disappointing. it just proves how original a person can be with the same exact chord progression. It took me a while to realize that he used the same chords, and I was even more impressed when I realized it.
Huh, as if his guitar talent wasnt amazing enough, hes got a totally spell binding voice that is keeping me completely entranced....what an astounding individual
@19wayfarer19 just off the North East Coast of England, close to the scottish border region, you have to drive over or walk via a tidal roadway...a few people have tried to beat the tide and their cars have ended roof high in water....happens every year usually vistors to the area..google it worth a look
How I love his voice and music,...very inspiring! I bought his album in a small cd store in Holland, they really promoted him!If you read this; Good luck with your music! Have you tried Ireland, career wise? such a great music country...
Um, one correction, I think it was I heard SAINT AIDAN call my name-- NOT 'Satan'..quite the difference! Saint Aidan was the founder of the monastery on Holy Island.
@DavidClerk Yepp I think to that's the right chord progression. After the G he loves to use that diminished Chord on the G# before he goes back to the Am. For those who don't know about diminished Chords, I think it's like this:
down in the shadows of the backstreets the old dirty lantern shines up the cracky wall with light... the leaves floats through the streets as an sailboat on the sea... you can hear the thousands voices from unknown people go by your ears as chillout music..
umm...no offense..... but hes playing it right in front of you......just watch it over and over.....take your time, trust me, you don't need the tab.......thank god for the rewind button.
Misspelling? Its called adapting the word into the music to make it fit more, from what it seems, people love it, and this is a beautifull piece of music, so why be so stupid ? :S
i saw this dude at the chester playhouse in nova scotia, blew my young musical mind way back then, and it has the same affect now. ballin shiz whitey!
oh my gosh, have finally gotten around to googling andrew white, saw this guy in the Blackbird, Ballycotten, co. cork ireland, bout 5 maybe 6 years ago, loved him, got a cd,Pray for rain, loved the song about east cork, Christy Whelan sings. Have been playing the cd for a long time and kept wondering what had ever happened to this guy we say in the tiny fishing village. would love to get newer cds, can I find out where. loved Pray for Rain in its entirity. What we "tend to forget" is that Andrew has been around for quite a lot of time, much more then most of the great young finger forces we have seen in last years. He is an innovator on guitar and a big influence for whoever heard or seen him live. Making magic from those "regular" chords is the true gift, btw try to work on the exact patterns he uses with the little twists in this song, it is not easy especially when singing along. Not to mention his instrumentals, top workout stuff.
i agree that this song is a workout abakashi! i bought the tabs around last christmas and kinda never got round to this tune but now i have!its a pretty easy song to get to grips with but trying to put the accents in the right place and play it cleanly is something i'm definitely struggling with!
great tune andrew, i'm staying on holy island this new year-i'll try and play this tune when i'm there!
andrew is amazing... and hes a really nice guy. i had the honour of running his sound board at my school and at a resturant here in antigonish. it was amazing, greatest shows i've ever done.
his voice and song building remind me of Gabriel as well. I don't understand the - points for this comment. Gabriel created the most wonderfull music I've ever heard (well among others but still!), I always sit in tears listening to the ochestra at "father, son" and get goosebumps throughout "sky blue", "signal to noise", "the drop" and "here comes the flood" for instance.

We climbed the castle walls, I looked around,
The sea went on forever, I swear I heard the sound, Of angels sing,
To holy island, to holy island, all your troubles bring
On holy island, there's a light for ships that are lost at sea,
On holy island, oh there's a place, sanctury,
Should your craft a-come upon on that stony ground,
On holy island, on holy island, you'll be found,
on holy island..
We got caught by the tide so we slept on the dunes,
jimbody1 2 years ago 2
He said let your heart become a burnin' flame,
On holy island, oh there's a light, for ships lost at sea,
On holy island, oh there's a place, sanctury,
Woke in the morning with a mist in our hair,
tired and hungry but we didn't care,
a fisherman was mending his net by the sea,
as we passed by he said to me,
'On holy island, oh your lifetime can seem just like one day,'
'On holy island, oh your heart can get swept away on the tide,'
On holy island, on holy island, a mystery hides,
jimbody1 2 years ago 2
the lyrics are as follows (this is my first time writing lyrics by ear but I'm almost positive they are accurate)
We got caught by the tide so we slept on the dunes,
beneath a blanket of stars we sang our tunes,
we laughed and we talked 'till the moon kissed our eyes,
fell asleep under north umbrian skies,
restless dreams I walk alone,
by thundrin' shores, ancient stones,
I heard satan done call my name,
He said let your heart become a burnin' flame,

Great artist anyway !
DavidClerk 2 years ago
@DavidClerk Yepp I think to that's the right chord progression. After the G he loves to use that diminished Chord on the G# before he goes back to the Am. For those who don't know about diminished Chords, I think it's like this:
E X
H 3
G 4
D 3
A X
E 4
Surely a great song and songwriter : )
