Yes, to immortality as long as the option to die was still availble in the event of unreasonable suffering/unhappiness was an in.
I think immortality would be the best thing for humanity, it would force people to stop thinking "I'll be dead before the consequences of this happen". It would force people to think long term on all of their actions. Not to mention the benifits to have highly experienced individuals making better and better decisions in everyday issues.
I would definitely choose Immortality over Death. In fact, that's my goal in life, to become Immortal. I understand that if you lived forever, you would witness everyone dying around you, but that's what it takes if you want to live forever. And seriously, who would turn away the opportunity to live forever!?, not me! For some reason for me when I was growing up, I've always wanted to live forever, but now I know why.
That cigarette sure wont make u imortall.. But yeah, i would choose imortallity, now, i believe that.. When u die. Ur reborned.. Or let me put it this way, ur ENERGY is reborned (not physics energy; N, i mean CHI) so.. In a way, we all are imortall. I dont believe that the universe ends. Allthough, i respect ur beliefs. Good bye
I'd need the assurance of ominpotence to accept this offer of eternal life. I would need to know that if I wanted to sleep for 1000 years, I could do that.
Don't fret. You're not the only person who completely missed the point of this little social experiment. You kind of have to watch all the way to the end.
I suppose the best form of immortality to have is not physical but are the moments when, after you are gone, someone remembers you fondly and feels that their own life would have been different had you never met them. That feels like an example of a true connection between people and a beautfiul form of life after death.
That relates to what you were saying at the end about our experience of living being subjective. It's about being able to enjoy your life, thinking of the past and future, but not letting them cloud the present too much. I guess it's also about trying to make other people's existences pleasant as well.
Our environment changes us so if you were say cloned at 25, separated and took totally different paths in life, then met up five years later you would probably be very different with just five years of different experiences. It's all science fiction of course, but interesting to think about!
This raises all sorts of questions about individuality as well - what makes you 'you', and I think it's all to do with the experiences everyone has as well as the time of your life in which they occur.
And if you knew there was a 'backup' around, would that make you feel immortal, able to cheat death, not care if you died because all that made you unique was saved somewhere?
How about immortality through cloning and the ethical issues it raises. If you cloned yourself and your memories and feelings up to a certain point you could cheat death that way!
There's also the 'Interview with the Vampire' point of view on how immortality becomes a nightmare - you are immortal and everyone around you dies leaving you more and more isolated from the world and the people in it!
That was an excellent video. Although who's to say that this reality is not the night we will eventually awaken from? What is reality anyway? At uni a while back we had an intersting discussion about subjectivity and language with the basic question "what is 'I' and would 'I' still exist without language?"
Wow, I didn't expect that to get so deep. I regret not answering earlier, but I would say yes, because I could watch the world and someday hope to make the world better, because it is getting worse everyday.
I'd have to answer no. Mainly because I can't choose a definite reason why I would choose one or the other, so, it's easier to just choose the inevitable.
Immortality is a false science fiction idea. Incidently my fav book deals with immortality. The "Bandaloops" were imortal so you see i like the false idea...but we are never given this choice. So to me it's like the 3 wishes question...i dont bother.
Very nice dp. I however would never choose immortality. You should just live your life the way it plays out, no 'cheatcodes' like a videogames. You live, you die. But I love the video man. Nice little collage of responses.
Interesting idea. My answer... No. Life is meaningless without death and death only exists because there is life.Immortality negates death and makes life pointless because ultimately life is a journey that must reach an end to have a meaningful purpose. (i mean, look what its done to dracula's head!!)Nice one dickster, 5 stars and an animal stamp for you.
It seems rather a common concept that get's tossed out there when people discuss this topic. Right along with the rules lawyers who ask "I'm allowed to kill myself if I want to, right?". Which I think is the major issue when discussing this, people really don't want to think about it much. Even when they claim to have thought about it.
I didn't see anybody say anything I hadn't already seen in Highlander, or various Star Trek eposides. I don't know if I could really add anything to the topic... but I was kind of hoping someone would have had something more orginal to say. At least it's a bit more thought than most of the other stuff you see on YouTube.
First I want to say: Good video. However, I have some "but" comments. I think even those who claim they would turn it down... would take it most times in reality. Mainly because I believe most folks who say they wouldn't want take it, did so in order to appear "deep and thoughtful". As to your point at the end, which amounts to "live life to the fullest, do it
now!" -- isn't that the point of most immortality stories and stuff?
You know; buddhists who believe in reincarnation, when digging the foundation for a new monastery, will ceremnoiously transport and rebury every single worm and living creature they encounter? :)
Damn. I wish that I had known about this. I would have sent in a response. But I agree with you on so many different levels. What bugs me the MOST though is that most people feel that they can't live a life without regret. - MindChild
This was great. loved the variety /sample of all the submitted points. Personally, I would not want it due to the appointment we all have for the after life. In a way....we all are going to live forever...it's just a matter of where we will spend it.
These people have cartoon visions of immortality and possibly reality.

Mr. Lebowsk1, I cannot make those assurances until you can demonstrate that you have the bag.
