I have never seen something greater than this guy. Thanks to my mom I "knew" him and she was quite right. His material is fantastic, so graphic and yet simple.
I saw all 48 of the Tora-san movies when i was in Japan 1991-1996. He's up there with Hulot, Chaplin, , the best of the best. Too bad the outside world does not know much about him. His movies are universal with a capital U. I once was asked by a local TV station in Tokyo to dress up in the Tora-san outfit and suitcase and walk through Shinjuku for a TV variety show segment, all of three minutes when aired, but it took about 4 hours to film it. Had the time of my life dressed up as a Tora-san. .

Eeeeeh! I adore the apartment where Mr. Hulot lives, it's so cute! :3
And Mr. Hulot is always fun to watch, especially when he's walking into his apartment.

of course it works.
It does not work for those that do not understand what the word cinema means.
This is one of the best movies i ever saw.

Agreed. It still works for all of us who appreciate great comedy and great cinema.
