I'd never taken much notice of Susan Boyle (and the whole x factor thing) until I saw this on Children in need last year and it absolutely moved me to tears. Susan comes across like a pure breathe of fresh air. Her performance is beautiful and so human - I get a tear every time I see this and she makes such a lovely refreshing change to all the current singers who spend more time flashing their bodies than they do displaying talent. Wonderful - abolsutely wonderful!
@FallasDeOrigen1 - Since becoming famous, Susan Boyle has been involved in a great deal of Charity work, almost all of it connected with children. I suspect she'd be very touched by your comment here.
Used to think about a long lover with this but after many years and hear SB's verssion this makes me think about my children whom after all are all I ever wanted, all I ever needed... need
I like Susan and I like depeche mode, however when I found out she would be singing this particular song I did not think her voice would actually suit the song, but as always she sung it in such a sincere way and proved me wrong, she made it her own and good for her I would imagine it would be a hard song to sing, but she sung it beautifully, something about her voice that just chills me out. Excellent.
It grows on you if you listen to it again. Thought it sounded as if the musicians were not playing a matching arrangement to what Susan was singing at lines making it sound out of key. Maybe just my ears.
@Talen529 I interpreted that particular aspect of the arrangement as intensional.
The discordance actually helps in my view.
This live performance is much better than the album version. I wonder if the almost impossible to watch film (because it's so emotionally draining) an extra boost.
It should have been the main Children In Need song. I say this as a Depeche Mode fan from their early years.
Martin Gore who helped write and perform the original by Depeche Mode said this about Susan Boyle's version: "It´s not bad at all. It sounds like some modern young singer. Good on her."
A stunning and original interpretation of this song - Susan is simply awe-inspiring. It is so ironic that some (far from all) Depeche Mode fans attack Susan so wildly for singing 'their' song - when the song is about the harm that words can do. Don't think they've ever paid attention to the words.
@MrSubofan Very true. I wonder if Rolling Stone fans critisize Susan for singing Wild Horses. Somehow I doubt it. They better not! It's a better song than this bus Susan makes a good job of this which is not an easy song to sing.
I think this is first song cover who change a meaning and feeling of song.

This is a beautiful and oddly elegant interpretation of DM's Enjoy The Silence. Susan Boyle is creating a whole new genre. She keeps surprising.
