Thanks a million for the lesson brother.... I surely desire to integrate some Trower techniques to my playing style I've developed since I began playing guitar in 1979.
Thank's for the lick. I did have the honor of seeing Trower with James Dewar in the late 70's in Jax. Fl. what an amazing concert. Very under rated guitarist and a very humble one at that.
In the same scale pattern, bend the B string up a half step from the 7th fret, relax the bend, and finish on the B string 5th fret. The lick is based on the major 7th chord, the foundation of Trower's blues rock progressions.
I usually go for the full step up bend and go from there, from listening to Chuck Berry, although he would dispute the bend up and say it should go down. Trower has a great finger vibrato though. Maybe I'll use the half step up technique more often now that I have seen this clip, sure seems easyer.
@Supersmellyfartman I don't think what the man does with the extra part of the string matters as long as he plays good. Maybe you should change your name. I don't think people will take Supersmellyfartman very seriously.
This good.Keep it up. It would be nice to be able to see the fret board from nut to sound hole. Its easier to reference a face-on view of the entire guitar and the picking hand ( like sitting across from someone at yer local pickin's) Always liked Trower Saw him July 4th 09 in a 400 seat tea house. Nice guy up close. Looked a lot better than when I saw him in '83 . He even signed my '79 strat'.
Isn't that like the BB King1 to the 1? Your method is a cool way of doing it. Billy Gibbons does the 1 to the 1 at about 4:15 into his "Blues Lesson" video.
hey man thanks for this little bend thing, its easy but ive played for years and never even thought of doin that..thanks again for the tip..put up some more licks bro, do you have tab for your lessons?
Always looking for a new twist! Thanks for the tip. I love Robin Trower while in HS in the 70s. Nice to see someone that can relate. Will def try this tip. It looks easy and effective.
I've been doing this spontaneously in my leadwork sometimes - it's good to nail the idea down as a 'technique', because it's so easy and effective. And it's application far exceeds just the blues. Thanks!
Como guitarrista intermedio que soy es lo mejor que hasta la fecha he estudiado y he visto en cuanto todo lo que necesito saber sobre tecnicas del Blues.
Thanks! you make it look easy. Glad to see someone who appreciates Robin Trower's amazing guitar work. Just bought his new DVD "Living Out Of Time" He's at his all time best!
Absolutely love it, just the thing to spice up my licks, BRAVO! Encore! We also love Trower, Clapton, Hendrix, SRV, BB King, et al. Blues is the soul of the music.
Fuk me I never thought of doing that thanks

Thanks for this technique. Robin knows how to execute, and warp those notes so nicely. And that vibrato is violinesque.

Go ahead and trim those guitar strings when you get a chance. Nobody's gonna take you seriously with that mess at your headstock.

1. Robin Trower does NOT get the love he should. He is a Strat and Marshall 1/2 stack GOD.
2. I think Jeff Beck was using that trick before Robin - but his attack is less bluesy and more staccato.
3. Thanks much for reminding my aging brain about this. Time to show it to my son.
4. Bridge of Sighs #FTW

Is a pull-off the note required in the half step drop down in order for it to sound smooth? Do you always pull off to the semi tone down?
p0ndu5 1 year ago
@p0ndu5 you can always slide down instead of pull off.
