the reaon he tries to go under is becouse ur holding the perch to hight hold it right abouve his feet, gently pressing and say "step up " with a firm but welcomeing voice, if you try this i think it may be easier for you but also a bird oging under a perch is a trick in book all in all this was a grea vid and i love your series of clicker training! ths so much

My cockatiel is afraid of everything... And he doesnt do anything... Also my mom doesnt want to clip there wings Because thats "Inhumain" so what do i do with them? Give them away? sell them? or something

@dejmago do a lot of trust exercises in the cage if u can ..also try to spend as much time with it  and always play with it if u can , then slowly he will come out ..u might have problems putting back in the cage thoe ..just a warning

i tried these things with him.... actually he`s wierd maybe psycho bird XD, when i get my hand close to him he low his head he`s like comon touch my head but right when i touch his head he jump on my finger so fast and bite it am not afraid of getting bit but its like something he used to it maybe he find this behavior so funny.

you kno ... how bout bringing you hand over and leaving it there but dont try to touch him

let him get use to seeing you hand close to him

if he dont bite you when its close to him give him a treat so he knows its a good thing

thats good, i got african grey when i shake my head up and down he do the same he call my name when i leave but he just want it that way its like dont ever think to touch me, yesterday he bite me so hard but i didnt move my hand (to show him am not afraid)and now i think am done i`ll left him for my father because there`s unknown reason for biting i think its his way to say hi there!!

whats it matter? birds poo. i let my bird poo where ever she wants. but when she flies to her cage and goes i will congratulate her with physical and verbal praise they get it eventually without the teaching.. its a small thing anyway? it dont smell and wont hurt anyone

i am interested in buying one of these birds and try to train it. can i hv some advice on what to ask the pet shop what are the prices, what is the best age for the bird to be taken etc. any other info than those asked could be really helpful as well :D tnx

ask them how old is the bird? usualy they are 6 month old , ask where they came from? who the breeder is if they know... ask to see if they know if its a boy or girl b/c somepet stores know ..usualy they dont know... and you might have to get a blood test done to find out after buying one...

ask about their return policy just incase the bird is sick within a week or whatever their policy is ..some pet stores have that if the bird is sick you can return it but you have to be sure befoure buying

you should ask how long they have been in the cage (is it a new stock?)

hmmm also you shoud check the bird in the pet store in the day time around 12-3pm is best b/c that is when the birds are most active and you can see if something might be wrong ... also look for missing feathers and birds sitting on the bottom of the cage and sleepy looking ..those are sick birds and you dont want that

i recomend reading about these birds b4 buying one...

Remember: you need to have time for the bird (at least 1 hour daily to talk to it and give it attention)

This one is a must! You have to ask if the bird is parented or human raised! there is a bigggg difference in price and bird itself The parented birds (raised by their own parents are more shy and agressive but cheaper)

and its ok if the birs is 6 month old (its a young bird )

oh and i forgot to add the pet store ppl will ask you if you want your birds wings clipped...that is up to you thoe

oh and if you go to a bird breeder the prices will be different and you might end up with a bird that is already use to being touched by humans and wont be agressive and shy

you can also try animal rescue places

the thing is if you rush things and try to touch the bird or something he might get scared and associate your hand as a bad thing and wont let you put your hand near him...

do exercises..the more training you do the less scared your bird will be..this is about HELPing your bird deal with his fears... every new thing is scary to your bird ..well lots of things..especially since you just got him

you have to be calm and quiet not make sudden movements for the 1st days so the bird can trust you

trust me if you rush things you might end up harming your relationship with your cockatiel... its about building a relationship based on trust and love ... i know your excited but you will have to be patient ... make the bird feel good in its new home and give him some time to get use to thing and surely he will become less afraid

that was a month after i got him... it took this long b/c he was affraid of everything

... do it when you think he is ready for something new ...

if he feels good with coming out of the cage try it then ... the reason i say this is b/c i tried training him in the cage but he only got more scared of me and the stick that was invading his space

it took him 3 months to train him ..i trained with him everyday whenever i got time so that he would get use to me and doing things faster .. about your male cockatiel ..you didint have him for long yet so give it another week or 2 and keep on training with him i would also suggest if ur able to train with him away from the other cockatiel so he wont be distracted ...

you can give them anything they like to eat ..as long as its healthy (ex. apples, broccoli.. and so on) i said broccoli b/c mine likes it hehe

but if your bird doesn't eat fruits n veggies (is a picky eater) then you can use what ever he will work for =P in other words his favourite snack... make sure hes not overfed ..he could get health problems...and wut ever amount your planning to give to him as a treat you should take that amount away from his regular diet so he wont get fat

dont worry ... he wont attack after he gets use to you..just keep doing trust exercises ..getting him to come closer to you by luring him with food.. doing the "step up" etc.

he WILL come around 4 sure If you keep it up..

mine was really scared of me b4 ..he would freak out even when he had a new toy near him...it takes time... they need to get use to things ...just spend as much time as you can with him...dont rush him or anything .. make sure hes not stressed and everything will be fine..

well i tried this out of his cage.... umm well lets just say adlest i no he can fly! there very scared birds but im slowly building trust with him, and soon ill try lettin him out of his cage again

cool..i did this b/c mine did not want to learn "step up" the other way..were u bring the stick close to him..he would get really scared of the stick..and would move away..it didn't matter if it was a small or big stick..he just didn't like it being near him in the cage...i even left it in the there for a few days so he would get use to it..no luck

so i did THIS were its not as stressful 4 him and its not in the cage so he knows he can move away if he needs to..i move at his paste with training
