@ssgcody One thing about this episode that bugged me---If the Vulcans are such a "logical people",why is their mating ritual so full of superstition and rigid? Fascinating---- ; . /\
spock,s race use to be worse then the klingons they are only logical because of meditation and other intense mind control but there instinct is to return home to mate.
@Tony63909 the fighting relieves the adrenaline that is rushing through spock he doesn,t have to fight but just have sex but his mate does not want him so he has to fight
@aznguy11111 he can,t have sex with christine it can only be with someone he has bonded with his wife. as you can tell i am a trekkie my favorite character is spock i also read the books ask me anything ha ha
@tribe1964 Except that, In Star Trek 3, Savick has her way on the regenerated Spock as he suffers the Pon Farr. She was nothing to him but his assistant, not his intended wife.
19:00 - Of course, he's diverting to Vulcan. Or he could follow orders and explain Spock's dead body later on. This episode is whack, but Nimoy is amazing here.

According to the unofficial mini-series Star Trek: Of Gods and Men (which I highly recomend seeing), Uhura ends up marrying T'Pring's "boyfriend" Stonn. Ironically, T'Pring is the Vulcan priestess that marries them.

By the way everyone, it is not a sexist show. Kirk never forces him self on any woman and all the women he saves are not graduates of the academy. Many of the women actually save his life like in "Dagger of The Mind". Star Trek was ahead of it's time it treated women as equals in all the stories and even commented on how unfair women were treated in the military. So don’t listen to grimjanitor, she is a sexist herself, she thinks all male relationships should be gay ones.
@BondFreek "she thinks all male relationships should be gay ones. " LOL My work here is done. Your comments prove that you are either a troll or tragically ignorant dude.

I am in no way denying their friendship. I hate it when people call it "bromance" because it implies that men can't just be very close friends. They can. Kirk and Spock are very close friends, and when people go on and on about it being sexual, it pisses me off. I hate it when people truely believe something when there is just no evidence. It seems so purposefully ignorant. Sorry. I'm all flawed that way.
@SwindlesAndSchemes We don't truly believe it. We just like to fantasize about it. We don't go around saying that they had wild monkey sex on the show because it never happened. We just think it'd be awesome since they have chemistry. The chemistry doesn't have to be sexual. It's just a fantasy. Like imagining Angelina Jolie topless. She may not actually be topless in any pictures, but you can still fantasize about it. By fantasizing you're not implying that she really is topless.
@grimjanitor That’s disgusting (as in the real meaning of sick.)! Why can't people love each other as brothers with out people thinking of Homosexuality? You people need a shrink! You are the same type of people that got the writers to ruined Xena warrior princess. When the show started Xena and her friend liked boys only and they loved each other only as sisters. Then all of a sudden (no explanation) Xena and her friend were lovers. It killed the fun of the show!
@BondFreek It's disgusting to me that you're upset by people fantasizing about things. None of us held the writers hostage and made them write gay scenes. So why are you so upset about it...? I bet you're into all the girls in the show and don't give a crap that Kirk sexes them up all the time. And that's actually in the script! And it doesn't bother me, cause I'm a crazy person. I still don't see the harm in fantasizing.
@grimjanitor Every thing that happens between Kirk and the women on the show is completely consensual, and 98% of the time done with extreme good taste. You can fantasize all you want, that is your right. My objection is you sharing it openly and gross out people who find that sort of thing offensive. Go a head and tarnish Kirks clean heterosexual image, but do it in the privacy of your home. Not in a public place like the internet.
@BondFreek I understand, but taste is a matter of opinion. We wouldn't fantasize about it if it was not done "in good taste." I would completely agree with not wanting to subject people to things that gross them out. But this is the internet and it's unavoidable. The best advice is don't let it bother you. There's no point in getting upset about it. Just do what I do when I see things that gross me out. Laugh at it and go on your way. Getting upset about it won't make it go away.
@BondFreek dude, you're not getting what I'm saying. I'm not saying everything on the internet should have no warnings. I'm saying that you should expect that. That's how the internet has always been since the dawn of time. That's why you have programs for young nephews to have on their computers to protect them from ANY inappropriate material. Also fantasizing has nothing to do with taking action. Drawing decapitation is NOT the same as making a video of a real decapitation.
@grimjanitor "Drawing decapitation is NOT the same as making a video of a real decapitation." Yes it is! You can fake decapitation, movie makers do those all the time? And software does not sensor your comments! Grow up and take responsibility for your words!
@BondFreek I'm not even gonna touch that "drawing = reality" part. Just...no. And by your standards, you should be more concerned with the sexism that is actually IN THE SHOW. Helpless females, usually causing problems, scantily clad, Kirk getting with them within like 10 seconds of screen time...in nearly every episode. Your nephew is more likely to see that than the comments. That's much more problematic than someone saying "aw kirk/spock is so cute." Seriously.
@grimjanitor. Sexism? Every episode that has sexism tells how wrong it is. Like Number One putting Pike in his place. Scantily clad? They are all warring uniforms with pantyhose. Kirk and Spock are seen with their shirts off Meany times men don't object to that. The dialog never draws attention to the women’s or men’s clothing or lack there of. When I was a kid, Star Trek taught me to respect women.
@BondFreek it's true that it was progressive in its time. but it's barely acceptable by today's standards. it doesn't correct the sexism. the women have a very clear place, and that's as the submissive character. 90% of the alien women have their midriffs exposed and the Enterprise crew members have tiny skirts. In the episode with Khan the men wore orange jumpsuits and the women wore see-through chain mail. we'll talk about shirtless guys when guys start feeling wide spread objectification.
@grimjanitor. Get a life! That is the way young women dressed back then. The message was women have the rite to ware what they wanted with out getting sexually harassed. Young women still dress like that today. Look around, low-cut blouses but crack holes in jeans, tight pants and you are telling me things are better today? You need to get out more often!
@BondFreek it has nothing to do with what people decide to wear on the street. uniforms are generally not revealing. if a guy's professional uniform consisted of being shirtless all the time, you would probably wonder about that, too. and I never said it's better now, I'm saying women's rights are more clearly defined. you're the one who needs to get out more, or at least acquaint yourself with a woman. because it's painfully obvious you don't know any.
@grimjanitor. I know plenty and all of them would tell you to stop being a hypocrite. Woman’s rites were not trampled on in that show. In the pilot episodes the women wore slacks. Just ask Nichel Nichols, she liked the short skirt uniforms. In allot of episodes some extra women wore slacks. Face it you are debating rites over nonsense. The final women’s rites were about salaries and the right to define what sexual harassment was and others. Most were good laws some put women above men.
@BondFreek Alright, you want me to name all the women not in the crew who just wore curtains around their boobs and that's it? Feel free to google image: Andrea, Kara, Kelinda, Droxine, Marta... I can go on. You're ignoring the real issue. Every other episode, Kirk meets girl, gives usual smile to girl, girl messes something up, Kirk saves the day, Kirk kisses girl, girl is never seen again. That's sexist. Also: you're spelling 'rights' incorrectly.
@grimjanitor. This is getting long. If you wish to have a proper debate, go to my personal Messages. Other wise admit you are a hypocrite sleaze bag with sick fantasies, and end this now.
@grimjanitor Taste is also a matter of morality. You don't have to contribute to grossing people out, show some etiquette! If every one on the internet filmed decapitation does that make it alright for you to do the same? NO! Getting upset makes people aware of their actions. It also encourages web pages to censor them selves. When I type in Star Trek I expect to be able to leave my young nephew in the room alone because Star Trek is for the whole family, nut smut seekers like you.
@BondFreek Oh so it's okay for your nephew to watch Kirk get it on with his lady friends, but when people comment about a non-existent relationship in a COMMENT section, you get all defensive about it? I like your double standard there. Afraid of imaginary gay couples are we?
@powercrunch. When do you actually see Kirk "get it on" with women? NEVER! Kissing is not "Getting it on" and is not immoral. Homosexuality might be socially acceptable now, but it is still immoral. This is not homophobia it is a fact based on the word of God in the Holly Bible.
@BondFreek side note: the actual section in the bible that condemns homosexuality also says that you can't trim your beard or wear clothes with mixed fibers like cotton and polyester together. I sure hope you've never shaved your beard, otherwise you're as immoral as homosexuals. Please check your Leviticus more thoroughly. :)
@grimjanitor The apostle Paul, "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." (NIV, 1st Corinthians 6:9-11)
@BondFreek: Please keep in mind that Star Trek takes place far in the future, meaning that such things as The Bible have probably become obtuse. Seriously, do you realize just how many alien species there are? Besides, I find it illogical that two (presumed) adults are arguing a philisophical and religious point in a comments section. It would be far easier to simply message each other.
@darctwin13. That's right the future, not “a long time ago in a Galaxy Far Far Away”; religion still thrives in the future it would not be "obtuse". Space is where the proof of God’s existence for the living is. If aliens exist then earth was no accident. Star Trek is philosophical, that is why it was invented, to bring healthy debate to controversial issues. PS why don't you practice what you preach and comment in peoples message posts if you feel that way?
@SwindlesAndSchemes: While I agree that two men can be very close friends, you must also take into account that "Roddenberry commented on love between Kirk and Spock. “Yes, there's certainly some of that-certainly with love overtones. Deep love. The only difference being, the Greek ideal-we never suggested in the series-physical love between the two. But it's the-we certainly had the feeling that the affection was sufficient for that, if that were the particular style of the 23rd century.""
@SwindlesAndSchemes: Okay, so I didn't phrase the quote right, that was my bad. In fact, I'm not all that good at explaining things; however, this may help. It's a channel on Youtube: TheShip'sCloset. Just take a look at what she has to say, and keep your mind clear of bias.
@SwindlesAndSchemes, a "bromance" is a close, nonsexual, male friendship. And there is quite a lot of evidence for a more intimate relationship than friendship between Kirk and Spock.
Lawl. I love people that get angry over people who talk about Kirk/Spock. It's obviously not explicitly in the show, so it's not true. Then again, the show itself isn't real. So what's the harm in fantasizing about it? It's all in good fun. It's not like people who ship it are ruining your probable hard-on whenever Kirk gets it with some chick every episode. Spock and Kirk's relationship is certainly more meaningful than all those annoying bimbos. Even if it isn't sexual.
@9:41 Spock has the same logic my sons have. "I was told to report to sick bay. I Have done so" My sons take my directions for chores as literal as Spock. Do just as little as you were ordered. :(
@SwindlesAndSchemes: If I may, I'd like to point something out. There have been so many times that Kirk left the women he was with for The Enterprise, and yet he risks his ship time and time again to save Spock... Yes, one could argue that it's friendship. I, however, prefer to think of it as more, and if you don't like that then I'm sorry that you are closed-minded about it.
@darctwin13. Have you ever had a friend you loved like a brother? I’m guising NO. I'm hetero and I would risk my very life for my best friend, he is my brother. Kirk to Captain Garth "made me and Mr. Spock brothers".
All this could have been spared if Spock would have just got them draws Nurse Chapel was trying to throw him, but oh no, I guess that wasn't logical. Yet, it was somehow logical to go fight his best friend over a scandalous hoochie who wanted to pass him up for the Vulcan version of Larry the Cable Guy. Yes, yes...flawlessly logical.
This thing about Spock and Kirk being in love pisses me off. Aside from Kirk being a notorious and successful womanizer and Spock being reluctant to engage in any kind of romantic relationship, Gene Roddenberry himself states that there is no sexual attraction between the two. In his book, "Star Trek: The Motion Picture," he quotes Kirk as saying, "I would dislike being thought of as so foolish that I would select a love partner who came into sexual heat only once every seven years (p. 22)" See?
Where is the diversity training for these people? This is so '60. Evry episode is like a time capsule in the past trying to look forward from the eyes of a generation. Although I can safely say that has to be the best pick up line in the world " Pon Far in a few months your planet or mine?"
@xeCh0x How many biological functions would an emotionless scientist be embarrassed to discuss? "Captain, I am . . . I am having difficulty digesting carbohydrates."
@BondFreek Which is why Kirk is assuming that the biological function Spock speaks of is not one that is unique to Vulcans but is one that is shared with humans!
43:15 "I grieve with thee" McCoy is like "My Ass" and gives T'Pau the Look Of Death. Vulcan tradition never dies does it? And Stonn is like Duuuuuh man!
Oh. my gosh. What kind of crazy woman prefers a guy like Stonn over Spock?!? She must have been "outa her Vulcan mind!" XD
Spock's reaction at 47:25 is one of my favorite moments in all of Trek. It was a beautiful tribute the the great friendship between Spock and Kirk and still gives me the warm-and-fuzzies no matter how many times I see it. =)
@cavernettes Only because they never gave Christine anything to do but moon over Spock. Unlike McCoy, Christine is actually a capable medic and is probably the real reason diseases get solved.
Is the Tupal from this 'Star trek the original series' the same Tupal from 'Star Trek Enterprise'? Enterprise does take place before Kirk and Pike, in fact , according to the last episode of 'Star trek Enterprise', it was Captain Archer who came up with the popular speech at the outset of the Original series "Space the final frontier...etc". So is it not possible that this could be that Tupal, after all, Vulcans live for many yrs, and this Tupal is clearly very old.
I can't figure out why Christine loves Spock so much.

@BondFreek You just COMPLETELY confirmed what I thought of you already. I have nothing else to say.

grimjanitor 1 year ago
@grimjanitor. You only read one section. It apears three more times in the old testament and also in the new testament.

BondFreek 1 year ago
@BondFreek: Please keep in mind that Star Trek takes place far in the future, meaning that such things as The Bible have probably become obtuse. Seriously, do you realize just how many alien species there are? Besides, I find it illogical that two (presumed) adults are arguing a philisophical and religious point in a comments section. It would be far easier to simply message each other.
darctwin13 1 year ago
@darctwin13. That's right the future, not “a long time ago in a Galaxy Far Far Away”; religion still thrives in the future it would not be "obtuse". Space is where the proof of God’s existence for the living is. If aliens exist then earth was no accident. Star Trek is philosophical, that is why it was invented, to bring healthy debate to controversial issues. PS why don't you practice what you preach and comment in peoples message posts if you feel that way?
BondFreek 1 year ago
@SwindlesAndSchemes: While I agree that two men can be very close friends, you must also take into account that "Roddenberry commented on love between Kirk and Spock. “Yes, there's certainly some of that-certainly with love overtones. Deep love. The only difference being, the Greek ideal-we never suggested in the series-physical love between the two. But it's the-we certainly had the feeling that the affection was sufficient for that, if that were the particular style of the 23rd century.""
darctwin13 1 year ago
@darctwin13 That quote doesn't make any sense. Sorry.
SwindlesAndSchemes 1 year ago
@SwindlesAndSchemes: Okay, so I didn't phrase the quote right, that was my bad. In fact, I'm not all that good at explaining things; however, this may help. It's a channel on Youtube: TheShip'sCloset. Just take a look at what she has to say, and keep your mind clear of bias.
darctwin13 1 year ago

22)" See?

@aperson22222. With Vulcans? None.

@BondFreek Right, so when you have no frame of reference based on someone else's experience, you employ a frame of reference based on your own.

@aperson22222 How else would I do that?

@BondFreek Which is why Kirk is assuming that the biological function Spock speaks of is not one that is unique to Vulcans but is one that is shared with humans!
