The way I remembered this puzzle going down was the woman solving it and actually saying "The thrill of history...", but I guess I remember it wrong. I am 34 now, but this thing is one of those moments that stuck in my head for decades.

I saw the Agony of Defeat round when it was broadcast and remember it still. You can't invent this stuff: an amazing run spoiled by the most common consonant in the English language--leading to a puzzle solution that defined the whole episode.
