I could build a stock 351w block furher than what any stock 350 chevy will and even when it comes to aftermarket its still a Ford design, id never waste my time on a chevy. Best part is both my cousins that love chevys both now own fox body mustangs with a damn 302 n love it more than there built 350.lol
What are you guys talking about? Don't get me wrong, I've been a Ford guy for a long time. I love Ford. Love the windsor motors. I think they're one of the best internal combustion engines ever built, but on this particular motor, NOTHING on it is Ford. It's all aftermarket. The only thing it shares with an actual Ford motor is the basic design, & even that has been improved on many times over next to an actual Ford engine. . .
I'm indifferent to Chevy or Ford, I like em both got a camaro and a mustang. But this is just an observation, In recent years people have been dropping the Light Aluminum Chevy LS motors in Fox Mustangs. It's a great combo if you think about it. Light engine, light car. I love all domestics. Fuck those 4 bangers
its funny most guys that hate chevy's or ford's or vice versa, when it comes down to the subconcious physcology behind it, they don't even know why they like what they like--- its mostly because they just like how the "NAME" sounds to them and thats it.
@Dadebud: Mopar rules?? Mopar needs 6.4 liters to make 460HP. Ford now has a 5.0 liter making 440HP. Their seems to be a quality difference between these two motors.
@V8Supercar1 As a Ford guy I have to correct you on that. While it is certainly a fantastic engine, the new 4 valve 5.0 only puts out 412hp. However, you can easily add another 44hp if you spend $700 on a chip/intake kit.
@mean71cuda 3.4 v8 207ci in the 96-99 SHO ford and yamaha developed or if you meant PURE ford then from 1932-37 I believe that had a flathead 132ci v8 I imagine that thing was EXTREMELY POWERFUL...
@brownera89 Oh is that so, funny that GM stands for Government Motors owned by the socialist Obama, laughing in your face moron. Ford is still a free company. FU
any real deal blower motor has to have low compression usually in the 8s.. the 87-92 ford mustang had 9;1 compression with forged pistons and could take a good amount of boost with good head gaskets. but anymore compression than that and youre playin with fire
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
thats a tweaked out 327 their buddy. i run ihra and i have a 327 small block chevy. (331) with twin turbos ect and i make 684hp with a 1986 olds cutlass primper black. ford 9 inch rear that thing is sick
That is not a Chevy engine. If you know Ford and Chevy engines then you would know that Chevy engines have their distributors in the back and Ford puts theirs in front (notice the plugs wires going to the front of the engine)
not to mention the grouping of the exhaust ports, unless it is some super duper custom modified head chevy SB heads have the grouping of the exhaus(and intake for that matter) ports 1-2-1 as opposed to the 1-1-1-1 grouping of the Ford Heads.
if you really want to supercharge, you should get a cam designed for it. if you use it and dont supercharge it i have no idea what it'll do. id pick one or the other or consult with someone that really knows the answer for ya....cya
The duration that you listed is not enough, you need to give more info on the cam. The basic rule with forced induction is to run a high lift, wide LSA cam with limited overlap, emphasis on exhaust to help get the exhaust out. But the thing is it depends on how good your heads are. If you have a good set of heads and a blower, you do not need to run a lot of cam to get the job done. That 282/290 cam, how much lift does it have and what is the dur. @ .050" lift? What is the LSA ?
This guys motor, provided the numbers are correct is a good example of how to do it right. 9 psi to do the number means that he has strong N/A power before the boost is applied. It's all in the combination, and if I were you I'd call Jones Cam Designs (704)489-2449 and get Mike to custom grind a roller specific for your engine, or if you give him the specs to the cam you have, he can tell you if it will work or not.
To get 475hp out of that stock motor requires a lot of boost to make it happen. This 331 has good heads and cam so it does not need a lot of boost, which means it will last longer and not be so detonation prone.
@humantestdummy the 289/302 are very nice motors and can be built to scream
but it i was going to spend the money to stroke a 289/302 i would just spend the $ on the much stronger 351w it has much larger mains and rod bearings and is a much stronger platform
and throw some 351m/400 heads on it and it will come to life with some water port modding and a custom intake (351 Cleveland heads to a 351 Windsor block)
@humantestdummy and if you really want to go nuts and get the best bang for the $ you can have a 400cid ford crank counter weights cut down and rebalanced and it will sit right in a 351w block for a 413cid small block ford and still use all stock parts and do nothing but custom Machine work and they all ready make bolt on intakes for the (Clevor)a boss 302 has Cleveland heads also
Edelbrock stepped up to the plate and is now casting brand new intakes in their Performer RPM/Air Gap series, calling them the "E-Boss 302" and "E-Boss 351",
@humantestdummy if you use Cleavland heads all you have to buy is a Boss 302 intake
but like i was saying you will have to do some drilling and plugging of some water ports because the c is a dry intake and the w is a wet intake setup
@jordtizzle hhhurrrrr ddddeeeerrrrppppppp!, If you read the comments, the reason why i posted it was because there was some noob asking how much power it made. Its pretty obviously my post was aimed at someone.
Id say that BOTH FORD AND CHEVY have their strong points. Its just of mater of history i guess. take me for example, i grew up around Fords so i like Fords more, but i also like cheveys. My brother in law grew up around cheveys so he like cheveys more than fords but likes both. thats just my mind talking aloud. your choice.
lol we all KNOW what your saying. its about preference. we just lyk to bitch. sum guy in a GM cuts me off "faggot in that Chevy". ima ford guy but i gotcha, i aint had no problems with any ford so im sticking with them.
100000014- put your car where your mouth is. put a built big block chevy up against a built "big" block ford and see what happens. you can build a small block chevy to beat any ford motor. depends on mods also bud. but you cant just say fords better then fuckin chevy. put your car where your mouth is and see what happens
already have ive raced a honda, chevy, and dodge and i beat them ,and stfu i wasnt tryin to say chevy sucks lol, i grew up around chevy yeah chevy is good but not good as what im up to, but that is true abt fords thats y they dont have them in nascar. im neutral with ford and chevy only ford i like is the mustang i hav a dodge 3500 cummins diesel and a ford mustang with a 460 big block
hell, i'm for anything that's fast, but you can't just say a sbc is gonna beat any built Ford. Cause my brother in law has a 454 stroker, 496 in his Chevelle. 12.5:1 comp. 625/625 lift cam. Aluminum heads, blueprinted the lifter bores. Solid flat tappets BTW. 2.19in. intake 1.88in. exhaust valves. it's a 71 SS chevelle with a 4 spd wide ratio Munice, or however it's spelled. And 3.73:1 rear gear in a GM 14 bolt. Lots more but anyways. ran a best of 8.36 in the 1/8 mile
Well, one thing it's not mine. I'm 19 in college, no way i could afford it YET... Anyways, he likes to drive it on the street, idk why because the 12.5:1 comp. forces him to run race gas all the time. And yeah, he might get it to a 2.3in. intake valve, but that wouldn't help enough to shave off a lot of time. And the 625 lift in my opinion is too much lift to fool with on the street. Motor doesn't smooth out till 3200rpm already. But he's willing to keep it, idk why
8.36!!....thats it..man i figured it would be a little quicker than that....it would be if he had lower gears in the diff...like 4.10's or somethin...but dang i got buddies with honda's that run 8.2's and 8.1's....sad
yeah it is. He was a dumbo though and put a 4:56 gear in it now and now it's too low to do anything. But yeah, the same night he did that run there was an Eclipse that run 8 flat lol it was hilarious. But he uses parts that don't complement one another like his 3000-5000rpm intake, but his cam is is for 5400-7200rpm. So he doesn't seem to make it all that well. oh well, it still has a wicked idle sound
What did your buddies to do get a honda to do low 8's. My Uncle has a drag car with 1200 hp and it does 7's on the quarter mile. I also know a guy that has a 550 hp honda civic but it is running 9's.
@302Travis thats impressive, exept a guy in florida drove his small block 347 to georgia and ran 8.49, 8.57, and i think a 8.65 then drove it back to florida? and by the way a 454 stroked destroked or just blown up is not a SBC blueprinted the lifter bores? is that anythink like honing them and putting in bronze inserts?and a 8.36 in the 1/8 is slower than my oil leaking 306 powered daily drivin coupe the above mentioned guy ran those numbers in the 1/4......
@MrRusttang are you sure you're replying to the right guy? I'm saying my bro in laws chevelle wasn't built right because he has no idea what he's doing. He asks random people what he should do. And, a he's got a BBC 454 poked and stroked to 496... so idk why you're even talking about a SBC... and yes he even had the lifter bores blueprinted
ford small block 302 or 351 now if put a crank with more stroke then you get any fuckking CID you want 302,306 just a .030 bore, 331, i have heard of people getting 326's cranks, and if you have enuf money get the fuck away from small blocks you picks a 460 can make 700 HP with just a bigger vavles and a bigger carb with a nice 3in dules
"331 makes power faster" Yes...it does. But, it makes LESS power faster. The 371 takes longer to give you MORE power. The 371 gets to the 331's max power in about the same time, but goes on to make more power total.
Of course, the 331 fits into a smaller space. Faster. And weighs less.
I could build a stock 351w block furher than what any stock 350 chevy will and even when it comes to aftermarket its still a Ford design, id never waste my time on a chevy. typical ford needing either a supercharger or turbo to make real power, but as long as the power is there its all good

ur fucking stupid ive seen 351w stroker -434 ci. make 921 hp stock block it ran 9.240 first pass
901fast65stang 3 years ago
well. i'm in support of your stance but... i have a cammed 351w in my 1969 cougar and it doesn't make 900+hp. but it sure makes a lot of horses.
ThatsTooSmall 3 years ago 4
lol kapakegga ford can out run anything u got i bet, you know thats why its not in nascar right? because it would beat em all
100000014 3 years ago
100000014- put your car where your mouth is. put a built big block chevy up against a built "big" block ford and see what happens. you can build a small block chevy to beat any ford motor. depends on mods also bud. but you cant just say fords better then fuckin chevy. put your car where your mouth is and see what happens
cb250exrider 3 years ago
already have ive raced a honda, chevy, and dodge and i beat them ,and stfu i wasnt tryin to say chevy sucks lol, i grew up around chevy yeah chevy is good but not good as what im up to, but that is true abt fords thats y they dont have them in nascar. im neutral with ford and chevy only ford i like is the mustang i hav a dodge 3500 cummins diesel and a ford mustang with a 460 big block
100000014 3 years ago
hell, i'm for anything that's fast, but you can't just say a sbc is gonna beat any built Ford.
302Travis 2 years ago
You need way more cam and bigger valves.
Dart heads?
halohadel 2 years ago
Well, one thing it's not mine. I'm 19 in college, no way i could afford it YET... Anyways, he likes to drive it on the street, idk why because the 12.5:1 comp. forces him to run race gas all the time. And yeah, he might get it to a 2.3in. intake valve, but that wouldn't help enough to shave off a lot of time. And the 625 lift in my opinion is too much lift to fool with on the street. Motor doesn't smooth out till 3200rpm already. But he's willing to keep it, idk why
302Travis 2 years ago
8.36!!....thats it..man i figured it would be a little quicker than that....it would be if he had lower gears in the diff...like 4.10's or somethin...but dang i got buddies with honda's that run 8.2's and 8.1's....sad
bmxrider50 2 years ago
302Travis 2 years ago
thats true...sounds killer
bmxrider50 2 years ago

MrRusttang 1 year ago
@MrRusttang are you sure you're replying to the right guy? I'm saying my bro in laws chevelle wasn't built right because he has no idea what he's doing. He asks random people what he should do. And, a he's got a BBC 454 poked and stroked to 496... so idk why you're even talking about a SBC... and yes he even had the lifter bores blueprinted

Mate you are a wanker, there is only one car in australia with 1000hp at the wheels no turbos, no blowers, no NOS and it's a FORD

ford small block 302 or 351 now if put a crank with more stroke then you get any fuckking CID you want 302,306 just a .030 bore, 331, i have heard of people getting 326's cranks, and if you have enuf money get the fuck away from small blocks you picks a 460 can make 700 HP with just a bigger vavles and a bigger carb with a nice 3in dules

how come he only went 331? im looking at the man o war 371 short block. Expensive but worth it. Nice sounding motor =)
mustangjoe510 4 years ago
cause the 331 will make the power faster than the 371 because of the shorter stroke
brandontyler65 4 years ago
"331 makes power faster" Yes...it does. But, it makes LESS power faster. The 371 takes longer to give you MORE power. The 371 gets to the 331's max power in about the same time, but goes on to make more power total.
Of course, the 331 fits into a smaller space. Faster. And weighs less.
oldmusher 4 years ago
uhmmm no dude. its the same block. therefore it weighs the same and takes up the same amount of room
greenstreak9205 4 years ago
Not the same block. The deck height for the 371 Man o'war C Blocks is a taller casting than the 302 based block. Which is what this 331 is based on.
