i like what gstacks is saying. life-long niner fan, but most of smith's numbers came when they were down and forced to go to the spread, and after frank rank into the line 10 times for two yards. we all saw what happened when raye called plays from under center. yet singletary wants to go back to that next year (per the two big studs he drafted up front).

this is pretty much the make-or-break year for smith, as he's going into the season as the starter. same coordinator now. no more excuses.

@gstacks510 well look at it this way most of the games we lost were by less than 7 the cardinals arent going to be anywhere near as good since they lost many of their playmakers, we can beat the seahawks the division may be winnable at 8-8 plus we have two 1st rounders and we did move forward by showing we have potential just need to learn how to finish games which was our main problem give alex a break we threw him in out of nowhere and the crabtree didnt go to training camp, we will improve

@21earlybird : you people are way more optimistic than me. i believe we will be around 6-8 win team. Alex Smith is a bust lets not sugarcoat it. The product that they put on the field this season will not be good enough to get us into the playoffs, i dont care how bad the cardinals are this year, if the Seahawks have a healthy Hassleback it's over. It is really sad we are not taking advantage of a time when the division is up for grabs. All we needed to do was make a few Key moves this offseason

i think EliForSheezy is right, i want to see nate davis start next season. hes quick, and he has a great arm. Shaun hill is a great back up, and alex smith cant win in clutch situations.

Yea, but Nate Davis is Steve young To Joe Montana, only wishing they were that good tho. But this year it's either make or break for Smith. davis will probably be the back up for smith so he can get some play time

But the odd part is, Hill had the better pass rating and he's a nobody. I really wish Singletary didn't run the ball so much, he's starting to look like the big ten, but it worked the first 2. Difference is that we didn't have Gore, and he may have made a few of those plays Coffee couldn't, at least not yet.

hes not gona run the ball all the time, just enough to balance it out unlike last year when we were a pass happy offense turning over the ball and hardly gave the ball to gore, he wants to build a tough team with discipline, but we will pass the ball more often when hill builds more confidence on making plays they said so themselves they are just taking it step by step with hill

I know. I agree with all of that. But I like Shaun Hill. I wanted him to start last season from how he performed for us late '07. He isn't very skilled or physically gifted, but he can manage a game and not make stupid mistakes. He keeps us in games and his record speaks for itself, especially being undefeated at home as a starter...a stat that will be truly tested this week.
