  • What is said about cats was right, they don't sink and they function like raft if they capsize. It is not possible with a 10000 pound lead keel weight.

  • Age old arguments about cats verses monos... the worst case scenario for a cat is turning turtle making a big jumbled mess of your food and supplies, but giving you something to hand on to and something big for the rescuers to spot. Mono? Well... glub glub glub.

  • Cats are safe

They are less likely to capsize like a mono haul

    BUT

A skipper can make or break any good boat

This one would be caused be a bad skipper

  • This is why large cats have escape hatches and why many people fear them because cats DO NOT self-right!

  • What happened? How did the cat flip? Is this a danger with large cruising cats or is this rare?

  • @justinz3

2 main caouses can do this

1 bad saling - didnt reef

2 wave hight matched or exceeded with of the cat, and waves were hit side on

both of theas are easly avoided by good saling and knowing your boat

  • @justinz3

Cat's are more likely to capsize than a monohull, but are less prone to sinking as a monohull, are more stable under sail than a monohull, and have more living space than a monohull. To get the same living and storage area out of monohull, you need one that is about 10 feet longer than the Cat you're comparing it to. Take the good with the bad.....but with Cruising Catamaran's, there isn't much bad to take.

  • Bravo!! Did you also rescue the boat? Pulling it ashore?
