@PowerSpartanl99 what company its made by matters little, so long as the company makes it right and Colt isn't the only one, nor has it ever been. The same can be said about old as opposed to new 1911s
Hickok, Do you have any experience with the Para Ordinance 1911's as compared to the some of the other more popular models like Springfield or Kimbers?
I'm strongly considering the Para. I hear that parts don't interchange on the Para as easily as the others. What is your opinion if you have one.
@Pill88Dickle In all honesty it is personal preference and the firearm has been manufactured now for over a century by a plethora of companies, I dont think it is just nostalgia
mr. idol hickok45.im i big fan.i have a question sir. i have a brand new kimber 1911 do u think is it ok to do dry fires like a glock?and is it ok to beak it in with reloads?thank you.

@Pill88Dickle only an idiot would blow 1500 on a loaded. im getting a TRP for 1300 after i get cleared for my xdm .40.
btw, 1911's load hollow point fine, but judging by how cheap you sound, why are you worried about hollow points, theyre expensive too. i hope your not the terd who shoots hollow points at the range all day. if failure to load hollow points is your only thing against the 1911, and the fact that your weak wrists cant hold a 2 1/2 lb gun, then dont hate the gun, hate yourself.
@Pill88Dickle actually, when i said the 1911 is accurate, i was talking about in terms of having a good grip, being stable, good ballistics, good size barrel, grip angle, etc. the over ergonomics of the gun allow it to be accurate with any shooter. only a call of duty punk would say "this guns more accurate"(not knowing that it depends on the shooter), but only a moron would bring this subject up to someone in an argument, and neglect the fact that hes not talking about bench rest accuracy. lol

@wmr1997 i would go 1911. the only glock i like is the 9mm glocks cuz i like how i can have 33 rounds in a mag if i feel like it. glock 34 or 17L when you can find one being my favorite. but if i had to get anything in .45acp it would be a 1911 or a sig 220( i know that was not a choice but i felt like throwing it in there) if you do get a 1911 find one that has a 1 peice feed ramp. it will be one that is conected to the barrel that greatly improves reliability in feeding hollowpoint bullets.
i love the fact that it was actually carried in ww2 and brought back. lots of history. probally get asked all the time but would you ever consider selling this paticular gun?
The Colt I was issued in the Army (1970s) RATTLED when you shook it! hahahaha I just bought a (( Metro Arms American Classic M1911A1)) . Great pistol with all the bells & whistles. It is VERY reliable, made in the Philipines and it costs $420.00!!!
@Pill88Dickle Who said anything about there not having been improvements in handgun technology in 100 years? People can still like and prefer the 1911 despite there having been improvements, can't they?
I'm only 19 so there's no reason for me to be nostalgic about the old .45... It does have a small 7 shot mag and can be a little harder to control because of the weight and the bigger bullet. But I put at least 1000rds rounds through a glock 17, maybe a little more through the SA milspec. I shoot just fine with the glock but I can group a lot better with the 1911. I think it's basically more accurate than the glock just a little harder to control.
@Pill88Dickle , You might want to visit a shooting match. I'm anxious to hear what Rob Leatham says when you tell him the only reason he likes the 1911 is "nostalgia." :-) You might try that on some of the well-trained special operators, too, who carry it. I myself prefer to have a Glock in my hand when the zombies invade, but there's a bit more than nostalgia to the 1911. Capacity is way over-rated, of course, in a defensive handgun.
@hickok45 "When the zombies invade". Not only are you calm, collected and sharp, you've got a sense of humor. We need more people like you around. Stay awesome.
hear true friend I admire and adore you enjoy your videos, but I have a question ... why not get an UZI submachine gun is an excellent and an expert like you should make a video with it.

do you have a favorite 1911 magazine? I have a para 1911 that had multiple failure to feeds and a friend handed me his wilson combat and it ran 100 rounds without a problem. what do you like to use?
Does anybody support Utah's decision to make the 1911 the "Utah State Pistol?"
It's kind of like having a state flag, after all it is the 100th anniversary of the pistol. But that would kind of make Tennessee the second best shooting state.
I decided to add a 1911 type pistol to the collection. I'm picking up a new production Colt Delta Elite (Series 80 I believe) in 10mm next week. Do you know if the frame is the same on the Delta Elite as other Colt 1911's? The reason I ask is because I'm considering a Ciener or Advantage Arms .22 LR conversion unit for it. I figured, if anyone out there knew, it would be you.
I had a couple PT1911's in 45ACP and they were fantastic. Weight was not an issue, actually I like the heft of a big pistol. Cant understand why they are hated by some. Ignorance maybe?? Mine were accurate, reliable and easy to maintain. And easy to reload for. Only real limitation is magazine capacity but 7-8 rds usually is plenty.
@TheAKOmnicide There is an Argentine variant that doesn't have one. Can't remember the exact name, but "1911 argentine" should bring something up on google. Grip safeties are no big deal at all to use though.
marine force recon still uses this pistol 100 years old and still fighting, it comes from a time when guns were built for fighting not to avoid law suits, mag disconects hilary holes bunch of extra shit
aint nothin like a big fat ol' 230 grain chubby slammin on some steel.. thank you for the videos hickock!! they are appreciated all across the world!!
You know the Buffalo Bore .45 Super, hickok45? I heard it's a powerful round, yet is unknown if they can chamber on the SA GI 1911. Can they be chamber on those normal GI 1911 pistols? Include the Colt's pistol, and the SA.
i have an old Remington 1911. when i got it it had a crack in the slide. and after about 500 rounds the crack went all the way thought the slide. plus it was a training gun by the national guard. which make the gun unique to me.
@cocacola2120 the last time remington produced a 1911 was 91 years ago, given that im still surprised it crack the marine corps completely rebuild 1911 eery 18,000 rounds but they kep the frame some have over half a million rounds through it yours was probably week metal
@TheKentuckykid9513 no its is very thick strong metal but i had a friend heliarc the crack but it didnt hold because i was using 230 grain fmj rounds and they are federal rounds at that.
I've owned 3 1911s, and the newest had the most problems. It was an STI Ranger, in 45 acp. The grip safety didn't work, the slide lock didn't work properly, and the hammer would not cock manually when dry firing. The thing was accurate as hell, and had a really nice trigger, but those other problems were just annoying. I traded it for a Sig, which isn't all it was cracked up to be either.
I still like my Colt Series 80, but Glock has become my "go to" gun.
@sherk429 , If it's not too heavy and it has a clean, crisp break, it doesn't get any better than a 1911 trigger. A heavy one with creep in it, though, is no better than any other trigger. My Kobra Carry has a very sweet trigger break.
I am looking to buy my first 1911 and this will be a very important gun as I will be using it as my only available firearm for my home defense. I respect your judgement as I have seen many of your videos and know that you are a man that speaks with wisedom. I have a VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION: What is the most reliable 1911 available on the market today, should I go with a sig, springfield etc. I mean I want Glock reliablity. Looks mean nothing, all I want is reliabilty and accuracy.
@eastofakron1 , Just buy a quality 1911. I'm mostly familiar with Colt and Springfield, and the Ed Brown, of course.
Glock are probably just more inherently reliable than a 1911 - fewer potential problems, in my experience. I'd hate to go out there and expect to find any 1911 that is going to be as reliable as a Glock.
@hickok45 You really think Glocks are more rugged and reliable than 1911? I'd think 1911 would be just about tied at worst with all things considered.
@Makingnewnamesisdumb, yeah I'd have to agree. The 1911 has been around for almost 100 years, in my opinion its every bit as durable and reliable as any of the more modern polymer framed handguns.
@UberR3D, Yup and the internals are very simple, its the only type of gun that I own that I feel comfortable detail stripping. If I could only have one handgun it would be a 1911 because it can be stripped without tools using the pistol's own parts if necessary.
@themarine1701 Glock doesn't have a hammer, they're striker fired. Unsupported chamber, critical components made of stamped sheet metal, polymer mags and mag release and plastic recoil spring guide would be examples of flaws with the Glock that diminish their reliability.
@wowhobbster666 If there is already a round in the chamber you could cock the hammer and fire... but to do that you would have to rack the slide, chamber a round, then decock the hammer.
@hickok45 I've got 2500+ rounds through my 5in Citadel 1911 (same frame and slide that STI builds their spartan line on made by armscor) No problems so far with feeding etc. Feeds Win PDX hollows and ball ammo like a champ.
@eastofakron1 I just bought a Taurus pt1911... I love it. Good sights, some upgrade features, etc. Check out my vids to see me shoot it. Kimber is supposed to be very good, but I didn't like it compared to the Taurus. I went with the standard PT 1911 in blued (parkerized) finish with walnut grips. You can get it in different calibres but I'd go with .45acp... plenty of stopping power and availiability
@eastofakron1 I recently bought a Para Ordnance .45 LTC. Shot a few hundred rounds through it now and it is reliable, accurate, easy to handle. Good price too and you get everything a Kimber would have at about 30% less cost. But you can beat the hell out of most 1911s and they will do great, but Glock though you just cant beat. You could probably bury the thing in mud clean the action out and go back to using it. Most ppl wont need to go that far though :D 1911s are very worth it imo.
@eastofakron1 I got a Springfield M1911A1 Mil Spec brand new in 2008 as my first firearm. Still got the thing, and extremily happy with it. I've yet to get a jam and put 1000 rounds through it at least. LOOOTS of shooting to do yet, and I totally trust it to function reliably. Take care of it, and it'll take care of you. For a cheaper 1911 there's Norinco, but you won't regret putting the money down for a Springfield. I still love mine, and a friend of mine wants to get one as her first pistol!
I think the "selling point" of a 1911 is that no matter how old, or how many shots have passed through it, they can always be serviced. Parts are cheap and plentiful. They can be customized to be extremely accurate, or left slightly "loose" so that they'll fire no matter how dirty/muddy/full of grit the mechanisms are. They may not hold 14+ rounds, but they won't melt into a pile of slag if a ticked off girlfriend puts it in the oven then writes a dear john letter! (happened to a friend!)
I have a 1911 with well over 5,000 rounds on it in the time i've owned it. It had at least one owner before that, who I'm guessing put quite a few through it as well. (had it for 10 years and wore the barrel bushing out on it!)
Snugged the slide up a little, swapped in it's second replacement barrel bushing, and a new recoil spring. It's seen another 2-3k rounds without a single jam. They're not the most modern, or "high tech" but mine has proven accurate and reliable.
@windofthegods , Other than a couple of years flirting with the "Open / Unlimited" class using a .38 Super, I shot a 1911 .45 ACP most of the time. When I was in a Glock mood, I'd shoot my Glock 23. Early on, I shot my Glock 17 and a Glock 17 L for fun at times. I believe that was before any other Glock calibers had come out.
@danny675rider my first pistol was a Kimber Pro Carry II in .45 love my baby (I got the steel version) I control it just fine. 6' 240 lbs. My mother 6'ish 180 (not really sure shes not large though you can look at my videos and see here) LOVES it but she doesn't like having to learn semi autos hence why shes getting a S&W 629.
I'm looking to buy my first pistol and am having trouble deciding between a Remington 1911 A1 and a Glock 21 SF and was wondering if I could get your opinion on which one might suite me better. The only handguns I've fired have been either 22 LR, 38 special and 357 magnum. I would really like a 45 acp, but I don't know where to go from here; so any help would be much appreciated.
@princesscake , You really need to try out both types of guns. Both are fun. I think the Glock seems to recoil less, but that's not the only criteria to use.
@MRPOOSA , They all seem to be able to outshoot me, so I don't know. One would think the Ed Brown is probably the most inherently accurate if you put them all in a vise, but for standing and shooting, human error is generally a much bigger issue than the inherent accuracy potential.
I like the old parkerized finish on the 1911's. Great videos by the way!

@Pill88Dickle I hear certain $10K watches built like they were a century ago often don't keep very good time. Some people seem to love those, too. :)
mz9393mz 10 months ago
@Pill88Dickle Who said anything about there not having been improvements in handgun technology in 100 years? People can still like and prefer the 1911 despite there having been improvements, can't they?
mz9393mz 10 months ago
I'm only 19 so there's no reason for me to be nostalgic about the old .45... It does have a small 7 shot mag and can be a little harder to control because of the weight and the bigger bullet. But I put at least 1000rds rounds through a glock 17, maybe a little more through the SA milspec. I shoot just fine with the glock but I can group a lot better with the 1911. I think it's basically more accurate than the glock just a little harder to control.
Jack44007 10 months ago
@Pill88Dickle , You might want to visit a shooting match. I'm anxious to hear what Rob Leatham says when you tell him the only reason he likes the 1911 is "nostalgia." :-) You might try that on some of the well-trained special operators, too, who carry it. I myself prefer to have a Glock in my hand when the zombies invade, but there's a bit more than nostalgia to the 1911. Capacity is way over-rated, of course, in a defensive handgun.

i agree. there are still many good qualities of a 1911. it was the first pistol i learned to shoot. wouldnt trade anything for that

If you had to choose between the M1911 and Glock-21, which would be better for carrying?

Hey Hickok, have you ever fired a 1911 in 9mm? How's the recoil compare? I want a 1911, but I want to get one in 9mm to save money on ammo.

@TheAKOmnicide There is an Argentine variant that doesn't have one. Can't remember the exact name, but "1911 argentine" should bring something up on google. Grip safeties are no big deal at all to use though.

i have an old Remington 1911. when i got it it had a crack in the slide. and after about 500 rounds the crack went all the way thought the slide. plus it was a training gun by the national guard. which make the gun unique to me.

@cocacola2120 the last time remington produced a 1911 was 91 years ago, given that im still surprised it crack the marine corps completely rebuild 1911 eery 18,000 rounds but they kep the frame some have over half a million rounds through it yours was probably week metal
TheKentuckykid9513 1 year ago
@TheKentuckykid9513 no its is very thick strong metal but i had a friend heliarc the crack but it didnt hold because i was using 230 grain fmj rounds and they are federal rounds at that.
cocacola2120 1 year ago
I've owned 3 1911s, and the newest had the most problems. It was an STI Ranger, in 45 acp. The grip safety didn't work, the slide lock didn't work properly, and the hammer would not cock manually when dry firing. The thing was accurate as hell, and had a really nice trigger, but those other problems were just annoying. I traded it for a Sig, which isn't all it was cracked up to be either.
I still like my Colt Series 80, but Glock has become my "go to" gun.

how do u like the 1911 trigger compared 2 other guns
sherk429 1 year ago
@sherk429 , If it's not too heavy and it has a clean, crisp break, it doesn't get any better than a 1911 trigger. A heavy one with creep in it, though, is no better than any other trigger. My Kobra Carry has a very sweet trigger break.

Glocks are too thick, that's why I am choosing a 1911
eastofakron1 1 year ago
I am looking to buy my first 1911 and this will be a very important gun as I will be using it as my only available firearm for my home defense. I respect your judgement as I have seen many of your videos and know that you are a man that speaks with wisedom. I have a VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION: What is the most reliable 1911 available on the market today, should I go with a sig, springfield etc. I mean I want Glock reliablity. Looks mean nothing, all I want is reliabilty and accuracy.
eastofakron1 1 year ago
@eastofakron1 , Just buy a quality 1911. I'm mostly familiar with Colt and Springfield, and the Ed Brown, of course.
Glock are probably just more inherently reliable than a 1911 - fewer potential problems, in my experience. I'd hate to go out there and expect to find any 1911 that is going to be as reliable as a Glock.
hickok45 1 year ago
@hickok45
Thank you
eastofakron1 1 year ago
@hickok45 You really think Glocks are more rugged and reliable than 1911? I'd think 1911 would be just about tied at worst with all things considered.
Makingnewnamesisdumb 1 year ago
@Makingnewnamesisdumb, yeah I'd have to agree. The 1911 has been around for almost 100 years, in my opinion its every bit as durable and reliable as any of the more modern polymer framed handguns.
massltca 1 year ago
@massltca I think of the 1911 as the AK of rifles, 99.9% of the time when you pull the trigger itll go bang
UberR3D 1 year ago
@UberR3D, Yup and the internals are very simple, its the only type of gun that I own that I feel comfortable detail stripping. If I could only have one handgun it would be a 1911 because it can be stripped without tools using the pistol's own parts if necessary.
massltca 1 year ago
@hickok45 Glock ain't not so reliable man. Cause of their hammer.
themarine1701 1 year ago
@themarine1701 Glock doesn't have a hammer, they're striker fired. Unsupported chamber, critical components made of stamped sheet metal, polymer mags and mag release and plastic recoil spring guide would be examples of flaws with the Glock that diminish their reliability.
bddc201 1 year ago
@hickok45 hey with a 1911 can you pull the hammer back and fire or do you have to pull the slide
wowhobbster666 1 year ago
@wowhobbster666 If there is already a round in the chamber you could cock the hammer and fire... but to do that you would have to rack the slide, chamber a round, then decock the hammer.
EastTNSurvivalist 1 year ago

ChrsGuit 1 year ago

I still love mine, and a friend of mine wants to get one as her first pistol!

cabillionair 1 year ago
I think the "selling point" of a 1911 is that no matter how old, or how many shots have passed through it, they can always be serviced. Parts are cheap and plentiful. They can be customized to be extremely accurate, or left slightly "loose" so that they'll fire no matter how dirty/muddy/full of grit the mechanisms are. They may not hold 14+ rounds, but they won't melt into a pile of slag if a ticked off girlfriend puts it in the oven then writes a dear john letter! (happened to a friend!)
mdntepoet 1 year ago
I have a 1911 with well over 5,000 rounds on it in the time i've owned it. It had at least one owner before that, who I'm guessing put quite a few through it as well. (had it for 10 years and wore the barrel bushing out on it!)
Snugged the slide up a little, swapped in it's second replacement barrel bushing, and a new recoil spring. It's seen another 2-3k rounds without a single jam. They're not the most modern, or "high tech" but mine has proven accurate and reliable.
mdntepoet 1 year ago
what gun and caliber did you use when you were shooting IPSC?
windofthegods 1 year ago 3
@windofthegods , Other than a couple of years flirting with the "Open / Unlimited" class using a .38 Super, I shot a 1911 .45 ACP most of the time. When I was in a Glock mood, I'd shoot my Glock 23. Early on, I shot my Glock 17 and a Glock 17 L for fun at times. I believe that was before any other Glock calibers had come out.

I'm looking to buy my first pistol and am having trouble deciding between a Remington 1911 A1 and a Glock 21 SF and was wondering if I could get your opinion on which one might suite me better. The only handguns I've fired have been either 22 LR, 38 special and 357 magnum. I would really like a 45 acp, but I don't know where to go from here; so any help would be much appreciated.
princesscake 1 year ago
@princesscake , You really need to try out both types of guns. Both are fun. I think the Glock seems to recoil less, but that's not the only criteria to use.

@princesscake
How many Nazi's did the Glock kill? There's your answer lol.
TheFirearmEnthusiast 1 year ago
@MRPOOSA , They all seem to be able to outshoot me, so I don't know. One would think the Ed Brown is probably the most inherently accurate if you put them all in a vise, but for standing and shooting, human error is generally a much bigger issue than the inherent accuracy potential.
