Actually Legolas MEANS green leaf. I believe technically his proper elvish surname is Thranduilin (or something close), meaning son of Thranduil, King of Mirkwood. Check a website called the Encyclopedia of Arda...it's got all the Middle Earth you could ever want.

I think that, although Orlando did a stunning job, the movie depreciated the greatness that is Legolas. I would have liked to see Legolas with more than just informative lines and beautiful screen shots. He showed character, yes, but I believe that he could have been so much more.
