  • The women have more balls than the men. Just saying.

  • Always loved this song.. use to sing it in primary school

  • Beautiful vocals and great melody....love it!

  • Versione originale in lingua Maori "Pokarekare Ana"

  • absolutely beautiful

  • @iamearthbornami Glad you liked it. :-)

  • In all its versions - so beautiful - as is this evocative rendition! Thank you!

  • It also brings tears in the eyes of none-Kiwis... "Pokarekare ana" is touching my soul and reminds me to the beautiful time which I spent between 1985 to 1986 in Aotearoa.

No borders - no nations - no wars!

    Arohanui from Europe

  • This is wonderful!!

  • This cover is beautiful!

  • @ukegwyn As time goes on, I appreciate it more. Thanks for your comment. :-)

  • I love this song and the Maori who sing it

  • always loved this song..

  • Fly Air New Zealand

  • Used to live in Aotearoa New Zealand for years, love the country and the people. Great song, was pleased to listen to it . Racists suck by the way....

  • how come white fellas sing this?

    is it a cultural song?

    unknown

  • common-place nowadays.... progress/evolution

  • Love this song.

  • 54spiritedwill54: One of my favourites, too. When I hear it while travelling....and I always seem to somehow....it always gets me right.....there. ;-)

  • I swear, I try to look this up on limewire... all I get is that hayley westenra. She is sooooo crap!!! her voice is three times higher than it should be and theres no acoustic guitar. This version is great. Awesome performance.

  • It was recorded with a SONY handicam in mono, so the soundtrack is not very good....

I've had requests to make an mp3 of it, but haven't had time. Anyone could do it by downloading the FLV and extracting the audio.....

  • yeah, it's still a much better version than that Hayley westenra crap. I would, but for starters I don't know how to and I couldn't be bothered if I did know how to do it.

  • Sheep u crack me up man!! that's crazy shiet! :P

  • Pökarekare ana (They are agitated) ngä wai o Waiapu (The waters of Waiapu) Whiti atu koe hine (But when you cross over girl) marino ana e (They will be calm) E hine e (Oh girl) hoki mai ra (Return to me) Ka mate ahau (I could die) I te aroha e (of love for you)
  • This song was written about Hinemoa and Tuntanekai, in Rotorua.

  • Hi people, the song of course is outstanding, think we are all agreed on that. Not interested in the lightweight racist stuff, get back to your 'duh' stuff. This is a male Maori love song, I want to hear a male Maori sing it, preferably someone with a good voice, but not a young female celebrity.

Sorry Hayley, you don't have the crudentials, not your fault.

  • Back off, Kiri! ;-)

  • bet you say that to all the sheep

  • No....They get "Baaa". :-)

  • with a little help from my friends

    do you need any body

a need some (sheep's) body to love

could it be any (sheep's) body

I just need some one (sheep) to love

  • You must be one of the Sheeples. Bingo, is that you?

  • I prefer Hayley Westenras' version.

  • Me, too....but she wasn't there on the day. :-)

  • no she wasn't, she was sitta sitta sitting

    on her bumma bumma bum

    doing nutta nutta nuthin....

    lookin' dumma dumma dumb!

Hayley needs to stop lolly lolly lollying

    and get reala reala real

if she wants to be remembered

as being the real deal (like Kiri)

    hee! hee!

  • Good one. I like it. LOL! :-)

  • Kia Ora from Oz. A truly beautiful waiata that is cherished by all New Zealanders of Maori or Pakeha descent. Hearing this song reminds me of beautiful Aotearoa and its rich culture

  • Why'd you have to bring race into it? Why can't you just say "all New Zealanders" and leave it at that? The only people who care if someone's Maori or Pakeha are those who say "whether Maori or Pakeha" and most Kiwis cringe at that.

  • I purposely said both Maori and Pakeha in reply to other comments that were devisive. I merely wanted to point out that it doesn't matter what your waka is whether it be Nga Tahu, Ngati Porou or Air NZ Flight whateva, we are all New Zealanders. PS...You may cringe at the difference but those terms are part of Kiwi culture and its far better than Blacks and Whites don't you think!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's obviously not traditional if it was composed in 1914. Also, Maoris think it's a love song but it's not a New Zealand love song. I should know because I'm a true blue Kiwi.

  • Good for you.

  • Kia ora e hoa, Mihi atu kia koe Manurewa. Just one question if its not a love song then what is the song about you obviously can speak te reo I assume. Also I do not think you writing maoris is correct grammer, shouldnt it just be written as maori. I dont know maybe this education system in NZ has failed, me but I dont think so.

  • If you learnt how to read at school, you would see that I said it wasn't a NZ love song, because it belongs to the natives.

Maoris can't afford "s" so therefore call themselves Maori, but the word has become part of English so it's therefore "Maoris" when used by a European.

  • On your first comment you said you were a "True Blue Kiwi" in the recent comment you more or less class yourself as european because its "the word maoris when used by a european". I say again check your sentence before posting for any mistakes.

  • Love this song. Thanks for sharing your culture with us.

  • He's a Canadian, not a bloody Maori.

  • Yeah.....but I've lived in NZ for 25 years.....so I've absorbed a lot of "Kiwiness". More than I realised.

  • I miss home so much! Proud to be a maori!

  • Uhm... Whats a "Kiwi" exactly? How does it link to being a NZ?

    Ha, I love this song

  • A Kiwi is a small flightless bird found only in NZ. People from NZ refer to themselves as Kiwis. North Amercans use the term "kiwi" to refer to what a Kiwi would call a "kiwi fruit".

  • Ohh, I was wondering!

    Thanks.

  • Thanks for sharing video was great!!

  • Good Sound.

  • kind reminded me of the music from HI

  • that was so nice

    [:

made me proud to be kiwi :D

  • Googled: pokarekare ana mp3 - and found several downloadable MP3 versions. Enjoy!

  • This is so cool!

  • Thanks. :-) They did more songs that day. One day I'll capture them from videotape and post those, too.

  • Ohkay thanks! Do you have this song on your MP3? If you do, could you send it to me? I dont mind if it is sang by a different singer!
