Do you completely misunderstand the nature of this song? One of the truly great anti-war songs of my generation. Anti-war, anti-militarism. This presentation is offensive and stupid.

you understand the battlefield Vietnam fierce how not? How many American soldiers dead and many wounded veterans and why the fine is the disease called Vietnam syndrome is not? This is actually a nightmare
We "won" every battle yet we lost the war. We never figured out that the Vietnamese LIVED THERE and couldn't leave. We could still be there "winning" every battle except the black granite Vietnam War Memorial would be about 75 miles long...
I hated to "lose" too, but the truth is the U.S.A. could not have EVER won, it just took us about a decade to figure that out. I think our patriotic pride got in the way of our common sense. We Americans have a dire shortage of "common sense"...
Love this song, when we pulled our troops out of vietnam we gave hell to the NVA with our airpower and the South viet army was winning the land war, but congress removed our airforces and all forces and they lost...
actually, Fortunate Son wasn't released until 1969 in the CCR album "Willy & The Poor Boys", while The Battle of The La Drang Valley took place in November 1965. But hey, still goes good with the movie, lol =)
How many of you heard of this song before Tropic Thunder?

I like the way the guy daintily steps off the helicopter at the beginning.
That takes either real balls or no brains.

EXACTLY! The United States had the ability to win the war. Our ROE from back at home prevented every facet of the Armed Forces from winning.

The soldiers fought it well. The Democrats in Washington lost it when they refused to help the soldiers win it...

Excellent song, i think both "Fortunate son" and "Hey Joe" are the main cultural symbols of this dramatic conflict.
