  • wow shes really cute

  • It is like oh my god, Sherman Oaks Galleria is now torn down! Like fer sure it is, now an open air mall like you know. Like totally. Oh my god I am dating myself, early 80's!!!!

  • What's with the introduction, dude?

  • like like like! is all i hear!

  • Girls today dont sound much different.

  • @Hot80s absolutely! some things never change! theyve only stolen it and given it no justice by slaughtering it like pigs lol

  • 00:37 the song starts OH MY GAWD!

  • I was referring to the production of the song by her Dad Frank Zappa, not the "solid gold" production.

  • How adorable is Moon Unit.

  • In all seriousness, the production on this is amazing. Zappa was clearly a musical genius.

  • @tpl555

How do you figure that? The first half of the video shows Moon no more than 15 seconds.

    Great song. Terrible production.

  • @maxcohen13 Probably cos she's miming terribly and they didn't want to get it on video....

  • @iswearnothing

    In 1982 EVERYONE lip-synced.

  • @maxcohen13 Haha, I know, I just meant because she was doing it so badly they edited as well as they could to cut it out. Can't really blame her, it's pretty hard to mime speaking parts.

  • totally awesome that its so incredibly long!

  • I remember wishing that I was a teen during this era. I was like 7.

  • I like the bass.

  • When I listen to this I feel like I ain't gonna be a good enough musician. Like I suck as a composer or something.

  • Im like, totaly!

  • Is this playback? It sounds 100% like the studio record.

  • An anthem to airheads everywhere! Moonunit really rocked the zany lyrics and ditzy valley accent. Her squeak-shreik "omygawd!" and her ability to render the name Andrea monosyllabic has lost none of it's over the top hilarity.

  • I used to have a 45 of this *shakes head* OMG!

  • she was 14 here.

  • How embarrassing for Moon...I wonder what Frank thought. Since the song wasn't meant to be taken seriously(but apparently Solid Gold did), it was probably just a hoot to Frank, lol! The Solid Gold dancers looked old; what were they, in their thirties?? They were hysterical! Moon didn't seem particularly animated being so close to them and it looks like she really only got a liittle more into it towards the end of the song. BTW, I really AM a Valley girl, so the song is hilarious, but cute, to me

  • @calchick82 she actually liked doing this, she was a kid dont forget and Frank enjoyed working with her, its all in the book if you care to read it. It was infact his biggest hit in America, which is hard to believe I know

  • OMG this sucks! I didn't remember it being this bad.

  • mr. bufu? beef deeb?lol.

  • OMG !

  • Ha ha! Great album actually with Steve Vai playing the "impossible guitar parts." I graduated high school in 1985 and Valspeak was all over the US. It was part of the teen culture at the time and I'm a bit embarressed to say I still use words like "totally" "bitchin" and "that's so awesome." Great decade and it was an absolute blast while it lasted....totally!

  • I just shot myself.

    Resurrected myself

    then shot myself again.

  • The Scott Thunes bass line.............who else could come up with that ! Fantastic!

  • Who's old enough to remember the term Mister BUFU?

  • My guess is, Frank was too busy touring or something to be in this!

  • She was 14 here? Wow, she was hot

  • All the girls opened wide back then!

  • damn its like hearing myself except i dont say bitchen. lol damn im annoying hahahha

  • the dancers made this amazing!!!!

  • what a bassline!

  • If that don't take you back, then nothing will!

  • she had to lip sync

  • where is franK ? 4 sure dead now since 93

  • frank wrote it

  • I actually would have live to have seen Moon doing the bit, then the Solid Gold dancers..

  • I think it's pretty funny to see the Solid Gold dancers hanging out and cutting up with little 14-yo Moon Zappa - it looks like everyone's having a lot of fun! Must have been a nice change of pace for the dancers and a gas for Moon as well. A real example of tricking the system to subvert itself.

For any dedicated Zappologists out there - check out how the chord progression for the chorus (and some other bits) are borrowed from Zappa's earlier song "I'm So Cute" off the Sheik Yerbouti album.

  • Awesome vid. I just can't help wondering, considering where whe was from, if it wasn't something less spoon-like and more flesh-like she was gagging on...

  • The Galleria is in Sherman Oaks... so, like, how is Encino so bitchen, Moon? Man those dancers still look hot.

    Good lip synching though.

  • When my teacher said ,"gag me with a spoon" in jr high..i thought it was strange that she always said it around the shop teacher......found out later it was code for her wanting to give oral sex.... to the shop teacher..omigod

  • @nealadams70 It's not code for oral sex.... It just means you are grossed out.

  • @PrecisionIntermedia I KNOW THAT-I was a fully functioning alert pre-teen in 1982....dont take everything so literal, man

  • @nealadams70 I too was a teen then and thought you were being literal. Sarcasm/joking doesn't translate through text. You have to write something that gives it away. Like a wink: ;)

  • @ChadWork1 ok then ...just making sure you werent one of these smart asses that mess up a joke comment...listening to the song , Ithought it was cool back then. now...not so much.

  • 4:14 :D

  • She's on solid gold lip syncing a spoken word piece and taking credit for a song that's not hers. Total trainwreck.

  • This came on the car radio last week and my baby thought it was hysterical. He just giggled through the whole thing.

  • uhhhh wth is this?

  • Lol! I loved this when I was a kid! :)

  • I can't believe Frank Zappa allowed this. Solid Gold was the lowest common denominator of everything that was messed up in 80's pop culture.

  • @smithrs Well, it dosen't look like she really wants to be there in the first place. But then again, maybe he let it go just to tell a mass audience to go screw themselves, you know what I mean?

  • @smithrs I think that was the whole point of doin it. Total piss take!!

  • 1:45-3:00 = Weird audio ear rape

  • Moon actually disliked those Valley girls she knew.

  • One of the girls looks like Sammy Hagar.

  • Mu-mu-mu-mu-mu Moon UNIT!

  • Oh. My. God. I really wish I was alive to see 1982-1989! The 80s looked totally rad!

  • @MPGaGa1991 Umm, yeah, not so much.

  • @robertmessore Why not? The cars, fashions, and music of the time is awesome! I'm a Gen Y'er with cultural tastes like that of a X'er!

  • @MPGaGa1991 Let's see, what don't I miss? The cars, the fashions, the music... Ah well, de gustibus non disputandum est, and when I was a teen in the 80's I wished I'd been one in the 60's because it looked cool to me. Granted, I believe oppression based on color, gender and sexual orientation has become less and less accepted in America since the 80's, so that's good.

  • This, and the movie "Valley Girl", have the rarity that is authentically spoken "Valspeak" in pop culture. Almost everything afterward in movies and TV shows has been cringe-inducing, badly imitated knock-offs, worse than actual real people all over the country who adopted that way of speaking. Nothing is worse than someone getting Valleyspeak wrong.

  • Or is it a 1800s pioneer woman gown? Either way holy crap. That's bad.

  • Moon Unit's retro Victorian 80s outfit gives me the fear.

  • A Frank Zappa song on Solid Gold. This is almost surreal!

  • 1:39 Yes, I could picture you in a leather teddy. In fact, once I start, it's pretty hard to stop...

  • Lord god King Bufu? Anyone know King Bufu?

  • @alex2405777 3. bufu

    1. Butt-fuck (1983, "Valley Girl," Frank Zappa, sung by his daughter, Moon Unit) --Urban Dictionary

  • I dig stupid girls

  • @AntiquatedPoet Than you must really love your mom!

  • @scrambledpenis That makes no sense whatsoever. My mother could be a brain surgeon for all you know.

  • i love this and really realy really hate it all at once...lol

  • p971549 like, omg! I totally can't believe you just said that! Like, I'm so sure, like...seriously, I got this totally bitchin bubble gum wrapped around my finger. It like totally resembles the way Europeans (What are Europeans? Sounds like some kinda bathroom malfunction) Well ANYWAYS! Like, I just totally think, like, just like you are, well DUHHH, totally jealous of Americans, omg, like I'm so sure!!!!!!!

  • This way of talking has invaded the UK in recent years.

    Thank you America.

We [Europeans] should have just killed all the religious dissenters who set off for the "New World", maybe the Tea Party wouldn't exist now to endanger the world.

  • @p97154 As much as a agree with your opinion of the Tea Party, it takes a special kind of irrational hatred to use a stupid way of talking as justification for murder no matter how facetious you brits usually are.

  • Moon Unit is sooooooo hot!

  • @LuneyTune72 Fortunately , she does'nt have Frank's nose !!!

  • @LuneyTune72 She's 15 in this...

  • @willscomix I'm 19, it's not that weird. She looks like she's in her 20s.

  • Zappa is overrated.

  • @JhonathanFree Hahaha, I think you misspelled "underrated."

  • @JhonathanFree your opinion is not wanted :D

  • @Oadinatz Neither is yours. Have a nice day!

  • Like my English teacher he's like ... He's like Mr. Bufu! We're talkin' Lord, God, King Bufu!

  • TEENAGE CAMELTOE... WOW....

  • The best part of that was at 4.28

  • this makes me want to rip my ears off

  • @beckskies A perfect compliment for this song.

  • Gotta love Frank!

  • pathetic

  • See Tommy I have music memory-!! Like Okay Right Totally?

  • I think Moon has a pretty sharp satirical eye for having been only 14 when this song came out - 'Lord-God-King BuFu' is part of my regular lexicon

  • cool video

  • lol oh the 80s

  • ACHE

  • wtf?

  • Marilyn McCoo could not stand the song's lyrics.
