  • Pete Stark is the only atheist congressman.

  • i hate it when i hear people say they don't like "organized religion"... would they rather adhere to unorganized religion? what do they want?

  • @GabrielGroverMan Every type of religion is organized, it's a method of brainwashing people you dumbass.

  • @PuppyXz you have an orginized belief system of things as well... not saying you're brainwashed, but you too have a religion. religion is synonymously used with worldview.

  • lol they couldn't afford a second microphone

  • followers of the reality believe what they want because it's what they want.

  • Bill seems absolute for the most part now he said he doesn't know.If he doesn't know that means someone else might know or does no one knows what he doesn't know.

  • Bill maher claims he hate sreligion yet he has strong jewish beliefs.

  • "But now we have science." And science demonstrates metaphysical statements to be false.

But no, it doesn't. It demonstrates physical realities according to testable hypotheses.

Well, but science proves that religion is false!

Is that a scientific statement or a metaphysical statement?

Scientific because science reveals what is worth knowing. Everything else is speculation, superstition and myth.

Glad to know we're being circumspect about our truth claims and just saying we don't know. :/

  • • “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

  • • Jesus Christ loves us so much. When you were a baby he was there. Bringing you into the world holding you protecting you. When you’re sad or happy. In bad times and good times he’s there. His love is pure. Remember God gave each and everyone of us life. He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. You can choose to ask Jesus Christ to forgive your sins and come in to your life.

  • I think the concept of religion itself is a contradiction. It's simple because the answers are in religious texts and you feel relief and less afraid because its orderly. Yet, its complex religious texts claim to know all the answers and there is never the belief of there being something beyond humans reach. When man mentions God, we simply humanize and say we have a personal relationship with him. That's the only way we understand. Religion is too organized and is limited to man's viewpoint.

  • He doesn’t like it when someone questions Israel or Zionism, but he feels he has the right to throw mud on everyone else’s beliefs. This makes me very skeptic about Maher’s supposed good intentions.

  • No, he's not a "flip flopped", he's a non committer. He is just too weak to commit to admitting he's an atheist, which he is.

  • Bill can you tell how the Egyptian pyramids were built.Science is really advanced so you might have the explanation from science.

  • @tuffythetiger hahahahah!!!!1 your comments are my god!!!

  • ok,who is this schmuck interviewing Bill?

  • No one should be ashamed of atheism. Bill Maher is a genius and he definitely had a positive experience on my beliefs. I'm an agnostic instead of atheist now. Thank you Bill.

  • when it comes to existence, what you think or not is what you have concluded to, or something most follow that you assume as a way of thinking. If you really anaylize everything, and see all the things you can even ponder about, then you'll know that ALL cohexist in a balance, ALL is structured and architected wonderfully. There is no product without a maker... ALL is GOD, we are part of Him, and ALL creates and transforms or do what it does because IT exists and so do we.

  • POEPLE REPEAT AFTER ME........ FUCK RELIGION!! AND ADORE THE GOD WHO REALLY CREATED US!!! COME REPEAT FUCKING CHRISTIANS AND JEWS!!

  • thats true we are not sure about anything but thats why we need Faith, its better to believe in a God that believe that we are an accident of a monkey becoming a man

  • @ElLeonidas2009

That's exactly what mountains of evidence and experiments "kind of suggest", so its not a matter of belief, anymore.

Not an accident... survivors... we survived the natural selection and that IS an accomplishment, considering what a grim reaper "she" is.

I have never heard of a case of someone praying a new medicine, or a new technology, or anything benefitial to a mankind, its all been a product of science, so would you want to explain why is it better to believe in God?

  • @Vejita12, Doesn't it seem like the sort of people who find religion are, well, let's just say somewhat lazy in their search for an understanding of the world around them? Or a bit morally weird, in the sense that they consider punishment to be a really good idea, etc? If true, religion could be one of our most empowering technologies! If it causes the less useful among us to waste their time daydreaming then it is artificially raising the level of intelligence of those doing everything else.

  • @Vejita12 evidence of a creator I agree with you, your medicine and all of your science only have make things worse, think about it, more tec more stress, #1 wish for 2010 have less stress did you know that? 99.9 % of science its only trash, according to your science we came from a monkey nice explanation of creation lol.

  • @ElLeonidas2009

This evul science has increased our lifespan by 25 years in comaprison to dark ages - you know the times when religion ruled the world, ask anyone if he wants to live that additional 25 years stressed or not live at all.

Antibiotics stress you out? You wanna hug?

We and monkeys have a common ancestor, and since there was no creator involved in the process of evolution its not a "creation". Making a woman out of rib would be a creation, if we lived in a fairytale.

  • @Vejita12 I dont really know how it happens but it was a Creation not an accident, according to the Bible (my personal guide to live) everything I see was created and i believe so

  • @ElLeonidas2009

In the real world you also have to prove your claims, I stick to that, had a much better results so far.

It always amezes me that a Bible can be considered a moral guid, guess you didn't bother to look much around, and trust me when I tell you from an objective point of view, there are A LOT better choices there for moral or ethic guidance and teachings, not involving setting people on fire or hate crimes - you know "burn da'evul" or "god hates fags" sort of stuff.

  • @Vejita12 you re a negative person, the good book is like life it depends what side you want to see, remember we are the ones that do the wrong things not YHWH, He does not hate homosexuals according to the good book He loves them but does not approve their sin (depravation).

  • @ElLeonidas2009 But he created homosexuals. Why would he create them so he can not like them? That makes no sense. And god orders people on countless occasions to perform acts of murder and genocide. Sorry but your god is the most evil diety of all time.

  • @s5b678 thats what you believe and I cant make you change, at the end of this life we are gonna know whats true, but I prefer to have hope and not to be empty like you

  • @ElLeonidas2009 Lol I love how you say that 99.9% of science is trash as you sit there at your computer, in your house, in a city with utilities all of which is a result of that "trash" we call science. This is why i look down upon religious people.

  • @s5b678 ppl were way more happy with out science, all we have was done with things that were created before, humans only copy the Creation of YHWH. or your science create the elements to make computers? we only have learn how to manipulate the Creation.

  • @ElLeonidas2009 Really, because you might be dead since most of babies died in childbirth before science (medicines, hospitals, school, education). Keep ignorant and die happy. Sorry if some of us aren't satisfied with just that.

  • @qita0 you re crazy many of my brothers were born in a simple house and they are old man now, what science are you talking about?

  • @ElLeonidas2009 Are you serious? Anyone knows how big role science has played in increasing life span of humans. Sure my uncle has smoked for 30+ years and hasn't gotten cancer, does that mean that smoking doesn't cause cancer? Get your facts straight before calling someone crazy.

  • Certitude in atheism? I can't believe people still don't know what the word atheism means. It just means you don't have a belief in god.

  • @kausidya Well Agnostics and Atheists are fundamentally different. Atheists do purport to have absolute claritive knowledge on God not existing. They, like theists rely on a faux sense of knowledge. Agnostics admit that the knowledge is unknowable. Agnostics believe the Question is irrelevant and unanswerable anyway, hence their lack of belief and preoccupation with religion/faith. Atheists say there is no God, but this is presumptuous since they assume they know the parameters of the question.

  • @EjkoUSC Incorrect. Atheists do not purport to have absolute declarative knowledge. They simply aren't theists. Hence (A)theist. Not theist. Bill Maher should know better.

  • @EjkoUSC

    "presumptuous" ...are you kidding me?!

All the information on all the gods have its roots in men - meaning, whatever anyone thinks he/she knows about some god, he /she had learned it from other man or had made it up on his/her own, there is absolutely no proof of any of those hundreds of gods exist.

Moreover, nothing, absolutely nothing we know exists in this Universe shows any sign of a design and you've got nerves to say that atheists are presumptuous?

  • @Vejita12 What I'm saying is that if to you the God question is the question of whether there is an invisible man in the sky with a punishment and reward system, rules and afterlifes awaiting us then of course there is no "God". But Atheists think that if they can dissprove that notion of "God" that they have dissproved God. All it goes to show is that their understanding of the concept/question is just as boring and narrow as the religious nuts they hope to dispell. What are the parameters?

  • @EjkoUSC, Why is it that every description of "true" religion is a discussion of what it isn't rather than what it is? When I speak of god I'm talking about the god of Abraham, the one that the vast majority of people who are religious, and speak English, are likely to be discussing. If you want to use any other definition you really should try to make it clear or you're likely to be misunderstood. Can you describe the "god of EjkoUSC" for us and what a religion based on it entails?

  • @ananiasacts You need to read some books or something. Dont strike me as the most well read person on the subject. Who CARES who speaks English?

  • @ananiasacts And I said noting of the true religion. I said the Answer to the supposed God question. Religion can suck my balls and so can you.

  • @ananiasacts Religion is for (by defenition) the weak. God fearing people who believe in ancient boogy tales. There is no nobility in such worship. Just gullibility and stupidity and a willingness to play some dumb emotional blackmail debt.

  • Ya know, I have noticed that all the polaticians that have caused problems to our country are religious.....

  • Bill Maher is equivalent to pre-war Germany's propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels. Except Maher doesnt wear a uniform-not yet anyway. Goebbels one determination was to make sure the public outcry was that the jews were responsible for the country's condition. Mahers hate speech is worse than the pre-selected religions he is condemning.

  • You are so f*king sick.. just kill yourself for the best of humankind.

  • @PROCLAIMEROFTRUTH Actually, comparing a satirist to the organizer of mass genocide is the only truly condemning thing involved with that pretentious, evidence-lacking statement.

  • @cgnetwork1 not really, Goebbels did not organize mass genocide. Himmler did. He like Maher kept the people misinformed of what was going on. big difference. you are truly an evolutionist. whole lot of mouthful without really saying anything.

  • @PROCLAIMEROFTRUTH Keeping the German people from going against the slaughter of millions amounts to the same thing. And, actually, I don't believe in evolution, I just like judging people without knowing them-Oh wait no, that's you.

  • @cgnetwork1 .....amounts to the same thing? not really, but your math is fuzzy anyway, so I can see where you rightly jump to conclusions without thinking. If you knew any history at all, you would realize they like most people today, the Germans didnt care what was going on as long as their dream world wasn't disturbed.

  • @PROCLAIMEROFTRUTH So, I pressume you were there? Otherwise, don't base an argument on speculation. All I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't compare a political satirist to a Nazi. If you think my math is fuzzy in thinking that any Nazi, killer or enabler, is more evil than Bill Maher, (I really don't care by the way, I'm terrible in math class) then you shouldn't be calling yourself "PROCLAIMER OF TRUTH". Especially in big letters.

  • @cgnetwork1 >>>>All I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't compare a political satirist to a Nazi.

satirist?... nothing funny about Maher. unless you think burning jews and mass genocide is humorous. then again a lot of nazi thought so.

  • @PROCLAIMEROFTRUTH I've said satirist 4 times now. Only reason you object this time is because you're running out of arguments.

If you don't consider him a satirist, then that means you take him seriously. If you take him seriously, you're a hypocrite.

Also, If you claim, as it appears you are, that Maher is spreading propaganda in the style of Geobbels, then why don't you also take offense with the words of Rush Limbaugh or Bill O'Reilly? A lot of what they say is entirely propaganda.

  • @cgnetwork1,,,,, running out of arguments? how is that possible? you come to conclusions before they are concluded. you put words in my mouth and tell me what I think and how i think. and then call me a hypocrite. you are a satirist.

If you dont know the difference between Rush and Maher, then you are wandering around lost, dazed and confused. sort of like the innocent germans who were "taken up" by the propaganda rhetoric. poor lost soul you are.

  • @PROCLAIMEROFTRUTH You just projected every problematic part of your argument onto mine. Don't call me a "poor lost soul," you have no fucking clue about me. Take into account that I have not criticized you, just your argument. You would have a lot more credibility if you chose to poke more holes in my argument and fewer at me.

If you think Bill Maher is trying to kill people by criticizing them, you are stupid. If you can't understand that, you are the "poor lost soul".

  • .... well, when you put words in other peoples mouth and then tell them what they think, how they think and then call them a hypocrite.... thats what happens. just gave you a dose of your own hypocrisy. Bill Maher is doing exactly what Goebbels did in pre-war Germany. Only Maher doesnt have the same political clout. All you have to do is go back and read a lot of post replys. he is stirring up hate on a grand scale..... only its not jews this time.

  • @PROCLAIMEROFTRUTH Fuck it. Your argument doesn't even merit a response really, because obviously you are unwilling to accept the possibility that everything you are saying might be wrong. I regret the conversation like nothing else in my life

  • "how do u know this?"

hhhaha@ his voice when he says it but he has a point

  • THE MAN!!!! Cant wait to see him in August :D

  • i have always seen Maher as another narcissistic, 90s cokehead, tele-jerk. he got punted by ABC for his post-9/11 comments, which were statements originally made by Hezbollah for an interview with CBS.

  • Why can't there be more people like Bill Maher?!!!!

  • Don't be ashamed of being an atheist!

  • @Mem1061

    I agree......Religion is riduculous

  • Remember when Beavis and Butthead used to make fun of Christian Slater's name?

    Christians? later!!

    ha! that s**t was funny..

  • Ok talking sanke was a human when god turned him into snake so bill was worng on that.

  • ??????

  • thats even more retarded, do u hear urself speak sometimes?? do u actually read what u write?

  • It's sad that Bill doesn't even know that a-theist means not a theist, and that's all.

    Serpent

  • does anyone else some times find themselves feeling embarassed in the company of religous people? it wouldnt bother me marrying a religous person..but im pretty sure it really bothers them to consider entering a serious relationship with an athiest. anyone agree?

  • how do you know? have been to hell? are there nothing but atheists down/up/in there?

  • Most religious persons (who also happen to be "normal" persons) practice their respective relgions out of tradition and do not adhere or believe the more bizarre concepts involved with religious texts (I.e.- a burning plant "talking" to Moses, a golden angel speaking to The Great Shamwow, etc.)

  • why u tellin me that? dont think its got much 2 do with the point i was makin. anyway, i would say most people who are serious about thier religion do take thier scriptures literally. thats the problem, if they werent takin literally and only used as a moral guide or sumthin along those lines then there wouldnt be jihads etc.

  • My response had more to do with your comment about marriage. To answer your question- No. It would not bother me to marry a religious person. Religion is not the same for everybody. Many Christian/Catholic/Jewish and Buddist persons use religious teachings in their lives simply as a moral guide and they do not believe in the fables of religious texts. Fundamentalist Christians and extremist Islamic followers take their dogma literally and this leads to their insane beliefs/actions.

  • Wel yeah, my girlfriend is Christian and i'm an atheist... and she doesn't have a clue.

How do I tell her I'm an atheist without getting her to cry or something? I really love her and I don't mind her being religious, but I don't think it's ok to hide my beliefs from her.

    any ideas?

  • i'd say tell her. tell her you respect her right to have beliefs and she should do the same even if she doesnt agree with them. my ex girlfriend was really religous and we would have debates all the time. didnt effect our relationship.

  • Thank you for your advice, let's hope it's not a big of a deal.

  • wow good luck,my g/f is /was [were not together today] catholic and although I professed agnostism I went to church with her and had many various conversations re religion. When I tried to get her to read/view things to the contrary, she would say, their trying to rewrite history .Then,I would say ,how do we know history wasn't flawed anyway. She just looked at me! I wish you luck cause I didn't have any.

  • Thank you for your good wishes asutra01, since you may care, I will tell you how it went, you see I spent the new years eve with my girlfriend's family, and when they started praying she noticed I wasn't doing anything, her brother told me "It is not important to believe, but to respect", and she told me "that doesn't change the way I feel about you", easily one of the best days of my life :)

  • wow man your kind of in my shoes but i believe there is a god. you dont have to be christian to believe in god. nor worship anyone or anything.

  • nobody knows who to worship! but anyways my girlfriend is die hard christian and i am probably consider myself agnostic but we both know and dont really care. she more like looks at me as a gulable person but oh well. just start showing her controversal subjects and say its interesting and you two will get into the topic and just tell her you dont know. aint that hard. DO IT

  • I think the woman are the power behind religion, they drag the men to church on sunday, where they wouldn't go normally. Most men won't admit it because of the wife, but they know it's BS. Don't ever tell a woman you are an atheist.

  • @MrGnaes atheist??? I know many. work with many. love many of them. some of my best friends. But unlike you and Maher, i dont wish my opposites to be shut up or put in a concentration camp. I enjoy the freedom of religion or no religion and thats what I fight and die for. Freedom to choose. I would rather live beside a religious person who had morals, than an atheist who had no morals. I would rather next to Rush more than Maher.

  • Comment removed

  • @PROCLAIMEROFTRUTH You think Maher wants to put religious followers into concentration camps? You know nothing of the man, his concern lies in freeing up American politics and world issues from the restriction and crippling nature of religion. Do you know stem cell research is now working on a cure for aids since its ban has been lifted? Do you have any idea how backwards and crippling religion is not only for its followers but for the legislature it influences and the citizens it restricts.

  • @Trailslayer who knows what he wants to do. I am sure it wouldn't bother him in the slightest if they did put the christians in camps. Religion is not crippling. Socialism is. Bush OKd stem research without killing the baby, but the politics of socialism killed it. You generalize too much without any facts to back up your statements. the religion you condemn, stopped Hitler from taking over the world you idiot.

  • @PROCLAIMEROFTRUTH Religion stopped Hitler? Socialism killed stem cell research? How uneducated are you

  • @Trailslayer >>>>> How uneducated are you?........ duhh... I suppose by that you mean if you don't agree with my point of view you are uneducated. sounds nazi to me. yea, that mean old christian nation (America....ugh) stopped Hitler. Obama signed back into law the killing of babies for stem cell research. Bush had it set up to use the umbilical cord without murdering the baby to get the same results. damn, how uneducated are you?

  • @PROCLAIMEROFTRUTH Sounds Nazi of me? America is a Christian nation? Obama signed a law killing babies for stem cell research? Do you just use phrases designed to invoke a visceral reaction of fear, anger, or disgust in order to make a point? I realize now why the other guy stopped debating you, you simply know not of what you speak. I would expect someone naming themselves the pro claimer of truth to be a little more well versed than you've shown yourself to be. Even in your favorite terms

  • @Trailslayer .... you must be an evolutionist. you can post an entire paragraph and not have said anything worth noting, except I am right and you are wrong.

  • @PROCLAIMEROFTRUTH I do not waste my time educating those who refuse knowledge and truth. I wish you luck in life and in your future

  • @Trailslayer Translation: I dont waste my time trying to brain wash those who refuse to be brain washed and think for themselves.

I dont need luck. I am not superstitious, like Maher.

  • @PROCLAIMEROFTRUTH You're a creationist?

  • @PROCLAIMEROFTRUTH Nazi, Socialism, Murdering babies, Christian. Your favorite words, of which you clearly have a very limited understanding about.

  • @MrGnaes yes :(

  • @MrGnaes I'd marry anything with good tits

  • @MrGnaes I'm an atheist and I married a Chinese Buddhist, It hasn't been an issue. I love her take on the origin of species. 'Small change, long time'. I'm not sure anything more needs to be said.

  • @MrGnaes I just went out with a Mormon & she didn't mind. I suppose it depends on the person - deaf-blind Muslims & Christians are probably a problem, but 90% of believers don't take things too seriously...

  • @tdp1909

which is kind of the whole point...if they dont take it too seriously, then they aren;t really believers, are they?? they are the ones that give credence to the true believers, the fundamentalists....if the 90% just thought about it seriously, and said u know what fuck, I dont believe it, then that 10% would then become "the crazy ones"......fringe religionists need to nut up and just say what their rational mind is trying to tell them! that would begin to solve this religion issue

  • parrots can immitate noises, they dont talk you fucking moron

  • u cant say theres no god, im myself im atheist, but even if ur agnostic, a rationalist, atheist or nihilistic u CANT say theres none...u can however say that " chances are, theres non", know what i mean?

  • Atheism doesn't mean that you KNOW a god doesn't exist, just that you don't believe in any. There is a difference.

  • Can't we all just get along!?

  • Can't we all just get along?!

  • Jesus Christ didn't save himself, whilst being killed, how could he save his Jewish/Hebrew people or Non-Semitic folks???

  • ultradestruction......

Wouldn't that technically count as a religion if you "worship" something? Otherwise same could be said about Buddhism not being a religion, but a concept. Also, how is pure atheism and agnosticism an error when that specific percentage of ppl are the lowest in crime (In Europe and Asia like Japan, etc) yet highest for IQ's? (Statistically speaking). Is it just an opinion? But no really, can you explain how shamanism is not a religion even though you "worship" something?

  • You're right that Buddhism is not a religion, It's a philosophy.

I made mistake not being specific enough.

Yes Shamanism is a religious way of life, but it's not an ORGANIZED religion.

In organized religions you're either re-incarnated into a lower being or damned for eternity if you don't believe in that specific religion.

Where as in shamanism you won't find anything like that.

Well, I've a atheist friend who's good in Warcraft but bad in education.

  • Interesting.

I dont see how that specific view on the after life alone can count/qualify as what can be religious or not... But out of curiosity, what is the after life view of Shamanism ?

Also, I was speaking of atheists as a whole. Look up the international statistics of that group. One person (your friend) does not speak for the whole group in general. That's an opinion, again, not a real logical example

  • You're kind of right about the fact that Atheists/Agnostics statistically have higher IQs than religious people.

The main possible reason is because Atheists/Agnostics think about this life more, therefore they value it & strive to be forward.

Whereas the religious people think about the afterlife more, which is the reason why they end up being backward.

But Isaac Newton was Roman-Catholic yet he had a high IQ & same with the Shi'ite Muslim scholar known as Al-Biruni.

  • Majority of Japanese aren't necessarily Agnostic nor do they follow the Abrahamic religions offcourse.

They follow the pseudo-shamanic religion of Shintoism which involves praising 'Kamis'(spirits) for help in their day-to-day life with a blend of Buddhism.

As I said before, Shamanism is a religion in terms of worshipping, but it's not an ORGANIZED religion where you're punished for apostasy or condemned in the afterlife or it is blended with politics.

  • A lack of belief has errors? You are retarded.

  • What the hell does that have to do with what I'm talking about? It's not an extreme and has nothing to do with evolution. Again, you are retarded.

  • great video. I five starred it and am your lifetime friend and subscriber:)

    be happy NOW

  • Bill Maher is so accurate on religion. He's saying exactly what I've been thinking since I was a teenager.

  • It's nice to know you are not alone in your critical thinking skill isn't it.

  • Loads of people in history were on natural forms of speed, lsd and most common ofcourse shrooms, jezus was also a really big tripper, alcohol and shrooms mixed together is probably the reason why he thought he was the son of god.

in dutch we refer to shrooms, lsd and xtc as "etheogene middelen" (yeah i read good books) which means that if you take these substants you will experience devine feelings. Offcourse the big picture isn't as simple as this, but its the big red line in the worlds history

  • Bill Maher is 100% correct !!!

  • Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people.

  • bill maher doesnt understand atheism. he is an atheist and an agnostic, the two arent mutually exclusive.

  • exactly. atheism isn't about certitude and being agnostic has nothing to do with belief

  • laxstar, you're a fucking moron, it's quite obvious you are. Learn to spell first, and then you can try to prove that you could 'run circles' around any argument anyone else could make, you worthless, stupid piece of shit.

  • religion = control

  • people are dangerous yes, but religion gives them something to unite under... strength in numbers is dangerous

  • i agree peaople are dangerous.. yes religion unites people [of the same beliefs] not everybody.... religion is good like the government cuz it sets rules and morals for people, but religion and government is dangerous because it can be easily used to manipulate its followers and do horrible stuff... this world is screwd that i believe...i dont think world peace is possible..

  • well then we shouldn't have government then cause we could end up like north korea...i see what you're saying though...people have to think for themselves and not believe everything they hear...i myself am a christian not cause of what other people have said but because of my own personal experience...if i hadn't had some of the experiences i've had then i wouldn't be what i am today...i just don't let other people influence me...i search for my own meanings of the bible

  • Thats why you commented right?

  • it think this guy is cool.

he is down to earth like me and hetalks REAL SENSE.

religion is a mind contol device used in ancient times and weak minds are fooled,

    scared and CLOSED.

i say this alot and all i get in reply off hating religious people is .. im stupid and alot of hate thrown at me.

    religion IS dangerous!!!

  • Tell me why religion is dangerous in your experience and own words and not something that Bill Maher said or any other atheist.

  • religion is good for philosophy and morals but yes it is dangerous!! because if one religion gets led by the wrong person, majority of that religion's followers could get brain washed into unimaginable thinking.... Like religious muslim extremists using RELIGION or Bush Using RELIGION in his foreigh policy is same thing..... RELIGION is not totally bad, but in the wrong hands it is!!

  • (reply to pauljjmoran) you said 'Religion IS NOT dangerous, PEOPLE ARE!' ok but their are two problems with that:

1)People use religion as a weapon

2)Religion was created by people, and therefore inherited all of the flaws of humanity.

  • It's clearly that religion is used as a way for you not to be afraid of death, comforting for weak people, and even more comforting for weak people with a "martyr" agenda. while you spout things like: "message of most major religions is to live peacefully, treat others with compassion and to try make the world a better place" you seem to leave out that that is except people who doesn't believe the same as you, homosexuals, bad children, and women, they can just be treated like crap.

  • To say that religion is only for weak people is too broad of a generalization. Most people are religious because they were raised that way.

  • FAIL. No religion = 's propetual world peace

  • Iaxstar3, any chance of you coming up with a logical reason why that would be so? I doubt you can..

    PS: did you mean perpetual?

  • Yes, i could, but unfortunatly i only have 500 charecters in this little box and anythimg more then that might swell your little brain. I could run circles around any arguement you could make i just choose not to because your a waste of time.

And yes i did, im glad your knowledge of english syntax matches your knowledge of theology....

  • is that a joke? "FAIL. No religion = 's propetual world peace" you don't really seem like the type that can run circles any mildly intelligent person in an argument. You seem like the type that falls down when it comes to making a point that you could possibly back up and resorts to petty insults for lack of ability to make a coherent statement. In fact i think it's sad... it looks to me that you're just trying to seem smart and if that is true all the bad grammar in the world wont have you win

  • As long as men crave power, there will be conflict. It's not religion that brings war - it's the fact that it's such a convenient tool to control thought and convince people to feel that war is justified.

WIthout religion, tyrants will find something else to fight over.

  • There is a difference between being religious and spiritual. Religion is a bunch of rules written by men. As long as you are a good person and you are spreading love, happiness, and not hate you dont have to take communion!

  • The Baha'i Faith doesn't paint any pictures of the afterlife. Instead, what is says, is:

"Blessed is the soul which, at the hour of its separation from the body, is sanctified from the vain imaginings of the peoples of the world."

    ~Bahá'u'lláh, Gleanings from the Writings of Bahá'u'lláh, p. 158

  • dgllamas, give it sometime and see how it paints a beautiful picture that even you can see it from your balcony. cheers.

  • The Anti-Messiah is atthis moment refusing to die by the SWORD, and so Scripture is currently being changed so ''preventing'' the False Prophet from imposing the Marks of the Beast upon the humanity.

It's now called the NEW END ERA

    Satan's House has collasped.

  • Give me some of the same stuff!

  • The Anti-Messiah will not make the prophecy of Armageddon happen.

The Anti-Messiah will not sit in the Temple and so shall Change Times.

  • How do you pronounce "Maher"?

  • It's "Mar" rather than "May-Her" or "May-Er."

  • I think my main argument against religion is that its followers don't think of its consequences. If I had a book that made me feel great inside but every time I read it, 50 people were murdered, I'd never open it. Collectively, all religious followers just keep opening the book (supporting their respective beliefs) and letting people die (the consequences of holy war). All religious people (to say nothing of fanatics) are enablers of suffering.

  • "I think my main argument against religion is that its followers don't THINK"

    And that's mine.

  • That too.

  • @BassOfSpades430 .... has to be the most stupid remark I have read to date. bet you believe in evolution also. most do who cant back up what they say.

  • @BassOfSpades430 ..... you would make a good little nazi. bet you would really put the jew in their place. if you were german. but maybe you're an american socialist, or national socialist. you like to drum up hate for certain type people with lies and propaganda of Bill Maher. Maher sells hate and lies. it makes him a lot of money.

now tell me, what 50 people were murdered while you read this posting?

  • Mother Theresa was inspired to help the poor by a vision of Jesus she had on a train, who basically said, "go help the poor". She went from recluse-nun, to activist, almost literally overnight - walking right out into the streets and washing leppers. She spent the rest of her life 100% dedicated to living out that 'command', even though she never had another vision, and her heart ached for it. Does her opposition to abortion negative the good?

  • It's funny. I reached a point years ago where I realized the complete futility of arguing with a fundamentalist about their beliefs.

And I have now reached an identical point with atheists - equally unable to critically examine their own certitude, they just repeat, over and over, their same beliefs of the Impossible.

Seriously. You guys are each other's mirror image. As a wise man once said, "be careful in choosing your enemies, as you shall become like them"

    BOOOOOOring

  • If you don't address the argument made, and simply attack the person delivering it then of course they're left with no option but to repeat it. In the few cases where you do, you appear to concede (the reader can judge this for themselves from the transcript.)

It's pretty much impossible to discuss anything with someone when they're very angry. I think it comes from the fact that you know your position is very weak & feel it shouldn't have to be defended in the first place. I think it should.

  • You're mistaken. I have confronted arguments head on - largely by simply pointing out that they are actually just opinions, and not based on fact.

I also think it's plenty fair to react emotionally to people being cruel and bigoted. It's not my fault you aren't self aware enough to see what you're doing to people, or the utter pointlessness of your petulant crusade.

My position is frankly unassailable. Trust me - that's not why I get pissed. I get pissed, 'cause i hate bigoted snobs.

  • I don't mind folks questioning me - like when you asked about my interpretation of my own experiences - that's perfectly fair, and I thought we had a nice exchange about that.

I DO mind certain OTHER folks who seem to assume I have a closer affiliation to Christianity than what I actually do (ie, I'm not one, nor ever was or will be), and make Straw Man arguments all over the place about the danger of little old ladies in thrift stores who vote differently then them. It rises to paranoia.

  • The 'arguement' , isn't one. All I see is people questioning other people's motives, and basing it on nothing but speculative hypotheses about the nature of human charity, and the complexity of individual humans/motives. (i used to work in the behavioral sciences - i see this different than you might think).

It's not even a fleshed out argument. I can hardly say is rises to the level of a theory. As such, all I can say is "i don't believe you" - which, again, is just like any fundie. fight.

  • what is "the" argument you think i have not addressed, in one simple sentence.
