I first heard of wilco from watching girl interrupted never been a huge fan of house =/ i mean it's not bad but bleh girl interrupted is better though the book is like 1000 times better so if anyone else came here after watching girl interrupted read the book!
yep, I only know of this song and therefore band because of House.
But those in the know are fully aware that House has some of the best music in TV. I've found plenty of good music thanks to House, thus a few bands have earned a bit more money.
I saw Wilco at the Ryman Auditorium for the first time in October and it was amazing! I found an artist that is in the same vein - Nathan Roberts. Check out NathanRobertsMusic.tumblr.com
@wildsmiley I don't give a shit about House, he just reminded me of this wonderful song that I saw on Girl, Interrupted, and finally made me to search it up. :)
@wildsmiley man you fucken piss me off, House is an awesome character and a good show, and this song is very good, I heard it at the end of a House episode and dug the lyrics and came searching for it, House is a medium for this song, so why hate on something for spreading awareness of wilco, a group which i have never heard of before hearing them on HOUSE !
@nishaadrao no need to apologize, we're all still learning! some people call it alternative rock, folk rock/indie music, try listening to "new slang" by the shins, or maybe anything from fleet foxes and iron & wine. hope this helps!
@nishaadrao I'm not sure about genres, they're often times vague and not very descriptive. Wilco reminds me of a lot of bands, many of their songs are eclectic. I agree with Nishaadrao, the shins are a great band. I've been listening to this band Delta Spirit for months now. Yo La Tengo has kind of the same feel as this song, but they have a really big library so there's some sifting involved. Pandora is pretty neat for finding new music.
Don't listen to that comment before. You have the right to tell us whatever you want. If that helps - Im dropped out of school and I also have nothing.
After watching House this song comes on and this pretty much hits close to home. Now of course when you have counselors and the like telling you people can sense someone who's not happy with themselves. Funny because when I show genuine happiness they saw it as fake. Psych majors are idiots who have a ego to feed. At least I have a Dr. House attitude from it all with a hint of Wilson.
except for the fact that this song is in a harmonic minor scale, a scale too rarely utilized in modern music. Additionally, the song utilizes lyrics that invoke psychedelic imagery, rare for a band of its time period. Chill? Yes. Simple? Far from the truth.
it can be hard...its sad too...but the lyrics to this song make sense. helping another does help a little...unfortunately in my case, thers not always sumone to help, *sigh* life fuckin sucks
HOw did you know to upload this great song TOGETHER with my favorite painting:)) I have a reproduction of this painting and carry it with me in my pocketbook:) Bought it at the metropolitan museum like 10 years ago:) Anyway thanks for uploading.
This is NOT Sarcastic, simply truth...society makes people feel the need to fit in; be social, common, NORMAL, like a Hallmark card. Your feelings are reduced to what is or is not acceptable in the "public eye". And that makes me want to take Zoloft. Either way, a beautiful song, emotionally brilliant.
i like your saying, and agree..not many people dare to be original, to stand out and be different. We all want love, and to be accepted as we are. Sadly enough, we think that being like the rest makes us be loved as unique beings. Be yourself, that is your mission
me too, but for some reason, i don't think the numbness of the anti-depressants is what i want either.
it is my belief that if you are lonely, unhappy, and dissatisfied, that you should stop associating with the people you are currently associating with. the people you surround yourself with has a lot to do with your sense of well-being.
Wisely spoken! in spanish we have a saying; better alone than in bad company..
I think that ppl fear loneliness, they should see lonelyness as a time to make place for new ppl, new feelings and experiences. Loneliness, a blank page, to be filled with new stories!
Dont fear the emptiness that is inside all of us, its there for a reason, and will be filled in time.
Agreed. Wisely spoken yourself, sapodotroposo. Loneliness is terrifying; it also produces the most meaningful growth and experience. The loneliest times I've had were bad, but on reflection they were very useful.
True, it's called creating reality. A resent study im too tired to directly quote said that if you don't enjoy the food you eat you won't actually assimilate the nutrients, go figure.
Well, i think this is not nessicarily (appologies for poor spelling) sarcastic, but certainly the lyrics don't really suggest that you smile all the time - "shine your teeth till meaningless, and sharpen them with lies"
in the begining, he says it once, but then at the end, he says it over and over, saying "smile smile smile smile smile smile smile smile smile" and you just know but that he doesnt believe it. one would do it out of desperation. but i never thought jeff meant us to take it literally.
Matt is right here. If you want the full story, listen to the Uncle Tupelo albums, then A.M. to hear how he started out in Jay Farrar's shadow. Then Being There, Summerteeth, and so on. I think Foxtrot is the best overall album, but as far as hearing the change in songwriting from "alt-country", Being There and Summerteeth are amazing.
