And yet, now that I'm an old, old man... I must confess that of all the faces that appear to me out of the past... the one I see most clearly is that of the girl... of whom I have never ceased to dream... these many long years. She was the only earthly love of my life... yet I never knew nor ever learned... her name.
I have just read this fantastic book today 18.08.2010- I have had it home all this time and have never had time to read it and now I'm just amuzed terryfied feeling brilliant but in the same time wanting to cry and ...all these feelings that I can't excplain..
WildTh1ngs, you're true criminal!!!!...Why cutting it just before the tremendous and chilling Horner's theme repeat during the credits?!..This bundle (that scene PLUS the following credits...to the last note!) is one of the most astoundishing and poignant piece of 7th Art ever, really!..
when i saw that film so many years ago i was pretty sure that this must be the most beautiful woman in the world! well, now i know: there are others as well ;) (but anyway: she is an everlasting beauty!)
At least kiss her or something- just one more touch to say goodbye. Hell, you confessed upon your deathbed she haunted your dreams for all your life, what the hell is wrong with those people back then?!?!
@88Anit It was no true love but passion. This innocent teenager never felt it before so that's how he can be confused and think that it is love and cry like this, then . Is it not possible to feel love without any word between them. I don't like how women were only sin objects in the Midle Ages. And every intelligent women were burned because they were "witches". It is natural to prefer a monastic and venture life.
@rizukiss who are we to say if it was love or passion? can we be so sure of their difference here? in the context of the movie, adso experienced something that he would never experience again and did feel a connection to the girl. if it was purely carnal he may have not tried so hard to save her. love of another human being perhaps and also love for a woman.
@88Anit It's just so sad, these people are lost now in history. He would never hear from her again and just had her as a memory of the past. Truly heartbreaking
They have names?!

One of the most beautiful endings in cinema history. It is very touching, although it makes me think: "Turn around and come back to her, you idiot!"

In the book the girl dies. But in the movie it was necessary a litle kind of "happy end" to her.
MrJamson007 5 months ago
He should have jumped off his horse and had sex with her right then and there - that would have made a great ending scene!

Great movie. Even though you want him to stay with the Rose, it actually makes for a more dramatic ending, not the b.s. you see in Hollywood today.
amprado128 9 months ago
@amprado128 yes, and a more realistic one as well. They have nothing to share, or what they had, they shared. It is a beautiful, tragic story.

I'll get in 30 years why, in this movie, the girl waits for Slater even though she's no idea he's going that way? Yea... sure,
