  • Japanese made bass?

  • just cuz his sig bass is japanese made doesnt really mean anything...

  • The Japanese know all about taste... so does Marcus Miller. he never over does it cause he knows that over doing it causes the listener gets lost in all that. theres a time and a place. he's just a well rounded player in every way. Respect!

  • Groove!, yeah, Marcus & all the band are awesome!

  • has anyone an idea why this song is called bruce lee?...does marcus miller appreciate bruce lee's work as an martial artist or did he just need a name for the song? ;)

  • its because bruce can fight like marcus can play is this so difficult to understand?

  • This is from Silver Rain press release: "My engineer plays martial arts tapes while we're mixing. Even though he kept the sound off, at first, it was distracting. Then Enter the Dragon came on and I started thinking, 'Bruce Lee fights like a jazz musician. He doesn't know what he's gonna do until he's in the middle of it; he fights like he's improvising. That's what jazz cats do.' I went right in the other room and wrote that tune within an hour."

  • bruce lee wrote it and marcus channelled it to us mere mortals!!!! say it together now,"Marcus Miller is the funkiest brother alive!!" Him and President Barack Obama!

  • i dont know if obama qualifies as funky..LOL!

  • Miller looks like a pimp

  • yes its called practice and find it out on your own.

  • when marcus creat the new music, someone was watching the bruce-lee movie

then marcus dedcide to music name

  • 534 Anyone have an idea of the chord and interval being played???

  • Somthing in key of A' and it works over the pentatonik scale.

  • Concert A or alto A, and its part of the penta scale?

  • should have played the original (album version) sax solo, it's awesome!

    still pretty amazing though.

  • its called impro

  • sorry for having an opinion. i never said it wasn't impro. i just prefer the original.

  • Damn! That sax sounds like a woman screaming. Anderson is a hell of a musician.

  • keith andersons solo made the hairs stand up on my back. shit!!!! that note at 5:34 just took the cake for me. goodnight!

  • Do the Japanese have the biggest concert halls for Jazz?

  • keith = god

    thank you

  • "You brotha's need to check out his new CD... "It's off the hook!

  • Marcus Miller--the king of the groove!

  • i beg to differ! he's the emperor of the groove! emperors have more clout!!!

  • Your Troll-Fu is weak.

  • sting never played with caliber superstars as marcus check artist background dummy

  • Marcus is so incredibly cool..........

  • Yo that sax solo is the highlight of this vid. God!! Cat was burning that sax to ashes! nice Pharoah like screams too always gives me goosebumps at 5:33

  • What is the little strange instrumentthey're playing I know you know which one i'm talking about

  • pretty such is an electic instrument which u play like the recorder but can change its sound

  • its an EWI, Electric Wind Intrument. its basicly like a recorder with MIDI and like 6 octives. Michael Brecker played on alot recordings when he wasn't playin the sax.

  • Gettin my publicity done lol ; just check my profile you'll see what the EWI is ! :)

Marcus Miller is the man ! I love Keith Anderson , a bad cat

  • heheh, nothin wrong with a little advertising man!

btw, i checked out some of ur vids, nice work!

  • Thanks man, I appreciate it.

Always loving this video, Marcus is the BEST !

  • fleas income has nothing to do with his bass skills, he is good but the reason he makes more money is cuz hes in a POProck band that everyone knows while marcus miller is a solo instrumentalist that will hardly be as known as the red hot worlwide

  • how about the fact that the chilli's music is more commercially successful.

  • absolutly the best!

  • i love how marcus casually walks on stage!

  • flea may play it as best as he can, but whatever he slaps...marcus miller was one of the guys who invented it :)

  • LARRY GRAHAM ACTUALLY DID

  • Yes, but only in the context of the electric bass. The technique of slapping the bass goes back to when musicians first started slapping the upright bass to get a louder sound. The great Ray Brown once said when asked what he thought of the "new technique" of slapping, said, "It's not that new, I've seen that 60yrs ago!"

  • There has been debate recently as to who actually first approached the electric bass with the thumb-slap style. While folks generally attribute it to Larry Graham, a growing number of people are talking about Sly Stone actually pioneering the technique.

  • Isn't Sly Stone a keyboard player? How did this work? Sly Stone suggested that Larry Graham slap his bass to get a different sound? (Mr. Graham used to be Sly Stone's bassist, btw.)

  • You are correct. But Sly, much like Larry, was a multi-instrumentalist, and there is a lot of debate in the community that surrounds Sly Stone as to who actually played what instrument on what tracks. For instance, on the '71 album "There's a Riot Goin' On", Sly himself played most of the parts.

Just sayin', nothings a sealed thing here.

  • as a response to all ur comments on this slap bass on who invented it it deff wasnt larry graham. Larry graham was juyst the one who took it to the next step and it became popular

  • I cant get enough of how marcus grooves. he always uses different styles but holds that old school feeling to it

  • arrrrrrrrrrgh !!!!

    awesome !!! :)))

  • what is that thing called, that the trumpet man plays?

  • That's called an EWI or electric wind instrument. I think kawai makes them. Randy Brecker also plays one.

  • wtf is patches playing

  • That's called an EWI or electric wind instrument. I think kawai makes them. Randy Brecker also plays one.

  • MICHAEL BRECKER..

  • Oh right...Randy plays the EVI(Electric Valve Instrument), not the EWI (Electric Wind Instrument). I don't think Michael plays the EWI though...

  • yeah you can find a video of him doing on here somewhere I know I saw it

  • i love it

  • That sax solo was really great, man.

He started to explore some really great harmonic ideas without getting too far out there. At the fortissimo part, he was playing some very "Pharaoh Sanders" stuff. I would like to hear how far he can venture out and still find his way back home.

    Awesome stuff all around.

  • I love this song soooo muuuuuuuccccchhhhhh!!!!

  • americansareidiots must be american cause he or (she's) an idiot for thinkin flea is and match for the brothas ha ha retarded!!!!

  • awesome, that guitarist looks like a damn fool

  • that "fool" on guitar is Dean Brown one of the great fusion guitarists ever who played with Billy Cobham's Glass Menagerie, The Brecker Brothers and most of David Sanborn and Marcus Miller's work. He's a fool alright...idiot

  • i was just saying he looks like an idiot, im sure hes an awesome guitarist. im sorry, peace

  • dude, flea isnt a hair on marcus millers of vic wootens ass.

  • straight up taylor. they dont even make a sock big enough for marcus' cock.

  • What the hell is the one guy playing? Looks like he is hitting the bong lol.

  • no wonder this song is so awesome

  • Se llama Keith Anderson !

  • increible el saxofonista....... como se llama?

  • why are you talking about flea ???

shut up, this is marcus .......

  • Flea is THE MAN

  • flea is actually the opposite of the man, he plays very simple riffs fast so it SEEMS complicated, when in reality Victor Wooten and Marcus Miller could beat his ass any day of the week

  • yeah, but flea composes half of the chili pepper's music along with john frusciante. and the chili pepper's music is favored by more people, including me. So as a composer, i like flea better. but marcus miller is my second fav bassist so it's cool.

  • dude marcus composes everything for his band u dumbshit flea is so beyond overrated

  • cause the red hot chili peppers are on the main stream. just because youre not mainstream doesnt mean youre not good. duuuuuummmmbbbbbb fuuuucccckkkkkk

  • Not my favorite by Marcus Miller (which would have to be power of soul), But still a great song with a lot of interacion of the instuments

  • Dean Brown!!!!!!!!!!

  • ve2w, nothing wrong with the sax solo, he just takes it to a more intense vibe but knows right where he's at imo

  • not enough stars for this - just awesome

  • u no i like watching him play and stuff then i do just listening to it

  • fav miller song

  • 20 May- Hungary AAAHHHAHAHHH

  • Sorry guys great song and performance but the saxophone solo is nonsense.

  • just a different language man

  • non sense in a good way or a bad way?

cuz i thought it was better than Marcus miller's solo.

  • dude the saxophone solo is how it is on the actual album so no its not really nonsense

  • i think it's a little different from the studio version.

  • i didnt say it was the same solo i meant that the there is a sax solo on the record

  • its not really close to the studio version because Gerald Albright does the studio version. i agree tho neither sax is nonsense. great stuff all around.

  • Wonderful video. Obviously.

I met him also, little time earlier. In 7/18/2005.

I've got two videos from that time, in fack I made it.

    Greetings from Poland

    Adam Gordon

  • i think hohner

  • Marcus was cool when I met him in Cali. Very Strong player. Great tone and control. Lonnie

  • Wow, you met Marcus, that's awesome!!! He's actually one of the few musicians alive that I would like to meet. Where did you guys cross paths?

  • can someone tell me what trumpet is patches playing?
