Shaved to the skin is a very attractive look for women. It's just that most women find it a bit too drastic. Shaved smooth and shiny is stunningly attractive. Way better than a mere crew-cut.

Not only that, Rushnut, but a lot of men don't like the bald look on women. Her boyfriend was obviously not happy before or after the reveal. The perception of female beauty has always included hair, whether long or short. Also the crew-cut look once it starts to grow in has always been perceived as (and pardon my language) a very dyke look. But I agree, some women do carry it very well. She could have won an extension, but "lost" at this wheel of fortune and got bald, both, she and her boyfriend didn't wanted that and she thought, her boyfriend will leave her. He said that this is a "hair"style for which is "no way" but he stayed, because that does nothing to his love for her.
