  • where comes islam in classical music ! :S dude all the naats and nohaas marsiaas all are composed on this music !! it is purest form of music dude where the concern is not to show 5 gay guys in a band or show sexy nude girls u watch it cause its fun but music is haraam ! Wah ! its just music and u cnt deny it live with it !!!!

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa,,kya baat ji..

  • an osive perfomance hey aur sangeet ki dunya aik anmool hisa heyy jo k afsos k sath kehna perta hey k yad e mazzzi ka hisa ben gya aala ............................

  • what a great ustad

  • he is such an honest man....could have given any approx year but see...

  • Last living legend of Patiala Gharana..!

  • patiyale gharane ke sher hain fateh ali khan sahib. fantastic video. thanks alot.

  • @faizanlala1 kya islam me bina matlab gaali dena haram nahin hai. chutiye salle internet pe aake logon ko bin mangi naseehat dena ki ghatiya aadat chod do. tumhe shauk na ho to ma chudao. jin ko sangeet ka shauk hai unko aaram se sunne do. bin bulaye aake bhasahan mat jhado.

  • sur to khuda ka noor hai!

  • rangikhan,

arab nomads had flute as well !

have noted the gynealogy of Fateh Ali Khan Saheb.

qawwal Nusrat was from Faisalabad, yes

not Lahore, but his ang is Lahori

punjabi style. Nobody claimed their's was

    patiala,

  • Kalyan, is a raag, one among the ten

thaats (emanation / source) to obtain scales & dhuns ) of raags which are:

    Kalyan - -Bilawal - Khamaj - kafi - Bhairon

Asawari - Todi - poorvi - malwa -Bhairanvi.

Kalyan (first) has styles to indentify,

Nat Kalyan, shudh Kalyan, shive Kalyan

Eman Kalyan, Hem kalyan & others. Raags which has " Kalyan " as the source (thaat) are e.g. : Bhopali, Gunkali,

    shankara, Behag, madh & Pahari.

So, you say e.g. this is raag Bhopali in Kalyan thaat.

  • Thank you very much Ji! Can you help me better understand the subtle difference between the styles of Kalyan eg. Madh Kalyan, Shiv Kalyan, Sudh Kalyan etc. So are you saying that you may have a Raag (ie. Bhopali) and its source of obtaining scales and Dhuns can be Kalyan, Bilawal, Khamaj, Kafi, Bhairaav, Todi or Poorvi etc.? Thank you for your help. :)

  • kumar ji,

all kalyans have their temperaments, u can easily follow madh, shiv and sudh.

the only difference apparently is the

    udhava, sudhava and samporna jati

in their arohi and amrohi orders.

Yes, those ten thaats can be the original

    scales dhuns moduling ragas like

    bhupali

  • Thank you so much JI. You have explained this to me so well. God bless you! :)

  • you are most welcome, Sir

  • @raqib56 @KumarTabla I have a feeling the common among the 3 kalyans mentioned is not the kalyan thaat swaras but the prayog. madh and shiv kalyan certainly are janya raags of vachapati becuz they have strong komal nishads and not the suddha nishad.they are much closer to kalavati.in fact that kalyan in their names seems a misnomer as their chalans are not very kalyanish either execpt the N'-R-G slide at 3:08 for eg.sudh kalyan on contrary is fully kalyan thaat with bhup arohi, yaman avroh.

  • @shankyxyz thaats are origins of " Mizzaj & ang " pertaining to Malika " i.e pearls of the same mala,

kalyan means ashti, an appropriate mood, expressed during particular time of the day

with the union of other thaatas, e;g purya kalyan could be in marwa thaat as well !!

remember the base of Hindustani classical is unique, for pleasing dieties

with all human devotions & tempraments ! chaals or chalans could be of variations,

e.g Eman kalyan, Hem kalyan etc yes indeed pancham is rare

  • Patiala Gharanah's prominents are to my

memories (sorry If I have forgotten anyone)

Taanras Khan Sangeet Samrath his son ?............................ ....

his son Ustad " Jarnail " Fateh Ali Khan

    his son Ustad Akhtar Hussain

his sons Ustads Amanat Ali -Fateh Ali,

The Qawwal duo Fateh Ali- Mubarak Ali

from Lahore. Qawwal fateh Ali's son was

    Nusrat Fateh Ali

  • ali baksh(jernail) son of kaley khan and fateh ali khan( karnel) learned from taanras khan..fateh ali khan died early, his son ashiq ali khan learned from his father´s student, since ali bakash was interested just to teach his own son, akhtar hussain khan( a very ordinary singer)..ashiq ali khan has many well know students like ustad bade ghulam ali khan, ghulam hussain sarahang khan, zahide parveen, farida khanum and many more.. -

  • This ustad, fateh ali khan and his late brother amanat ali khan are sons of akhtar hussain khan....the qwali singer fateh ali khan(father of nusrat FAK), mubarik ali khan from faisal abad (not lahore) has nothing to do with patiala gharana.

  • Ali Bhuksh Gen, was not the son of Kale Khan, his father's name was Mian Kalu Ji. Kale khan was Ali Bukhsh Kusuri's brother both hailing from Kusur :) Now known as the kusur patiala gharana :) and if akhtar hussain khan would be an ordinary singer he would have given us the Amanat Ali - Fateh Ali Duo.

  • Ustad Akhtar Hussain khan was Gen. Ali Bukhsh Khan's son not Col. Fateh Ali Khan's. his son was Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan :)

  • abbasalikhan,

bohat aham malumat hein apki, patiala ghrannay ke bare mein,

ham sab ko malum hona chahiey !

    shukria

  • welcome brother, I'm a disciple of Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, hence i have heard all this first hand from guru ji

  • most of the music these days talks about forbidden love....listen to lyrics and then make ur judgement...dont make islam something to have fun with....respect it....indeed ALLAH our creater didnt talk about it but he didt say not to get decieved by the crafty work of shaitan....prophet mohammad(SAW) never allowed any other instrument than duff...

  • arab nomadic society did not have any instrument at that time other than duff.

  • irfansufi :only bad (bey sur) singing is forbidden.

geo lol, wot a comment ;p

  • kamal hay pahlay kabhi sona nahey in ko amazing

  • This Raag is Shabad,of Kalyan thaat. Please correct this mis-information.

  • showingthetruth: pls find the truth first, debate is based on wisdom and knowledge of subject it does not come out from a racist filthy mind you ass.come out of your couch and see who get respect and in their own coutnry.Parveen Togadia or Medha patkar, hope u know em??

  • boiragirules; i dont know from which world you came from or what u knw abt islam, fyi there is only one version of Holy Quran and whosoever does not accept it is consider a non muslim, Now if Music was banned in Islam then there would have been No Hazrat Amir Khurao the parrot man of india and a reknown sufi...

  • thanks god these guys are here and not being decapitated for practising music.

God is great (whatever form you can call him/her) but at least we can hear some great music.

  • The problem is Islam has 3 billion versions. The most confusing is which is being implemented. It is right that most of the best classical raagas has got a muslim origin. However, according to wahhabi version of Holy-Quaraan, any kind of music is banned except Azzan. However, I am blessed that Ustaad Sabir Khan( son of Ustad Karamatulla)came to our house once (however we are Brahmins). He gave me blessings.

  • You can not issue a fatwa which declared that music is haram in islam. In full talking about music and islam there no SAHI HADITH which declared that music is haram in islam; only overflow music is haram in islam. Ask your nearly best alim. And for your kind information you can do your job well (showing the truth)!!!!!

  • keep your stupid comments to your self, music is a gift of God which is given to few people.

  • total bull shit. music is not haram in islam. In Quran there is nothing against music, not even a single verse. infact there is praise of some prophets who were very good in music. These people have never opened a copy of Quran and just beleive whatever mullahs tell them.

  • I CANNOT BELEIEV AN ENLIGHTENED SOUL LIKE swaw HIMSLEF FORBADE MUSIC. If he did the call tp prayer by the muezzin would not be an iconic islamic feature....music is sound...recitation of prayer is sound , sharing it with others is in sound, sound is everywjhere...Guru Nanak founder of Skhism lived with musloim sufi saints and preached that its by singing HIS praises that you attain to be one with HIM ..reach him say his name He is the source of all.Nothing in Islam says otherwise

  • yes actually the problem isnt with Islam or with music its with Wahabis and i think they should be prohibited :) they are the ones who are creating all the terror, these fucking Taliban are all wahabis, soulless baysuray log.

  • aakfan, these lost souls have no orientation, they think they can make haram and halal by their own judgements, where as every thing is clear ! we all know where do they come from. Excessive violence becomes their own end and annihilation, degrading human gifted talents & qualities. I have studie wahabism's constructive reformes which were purely to seperate existing corruption in the religion not inventing just additional restrictions to every thing which moves, sheer madness.
  • i too have felt that i only liked singing since I was 10 years old

  • Isnt singing this un-islamic ?

  • pin...6 I read the translation of the holy book of Koran, and nowhere in the holy book I found it (music) was not allowed. I believe the mullas tried to sing or try to play musical instruments and failed and finally issued what you call fathwa and made it un-Islamic. It's my understanding. Pl. don't take it as an offense. I respect Islam which is an ideal relgion.

  • lemme tell u !!! i dont wanna cr8 hatred environment but im "damn sure" Raag is not allowed in Islam... Take that for sure !!!

Thnx, i might b wrong, im not god...

  • why are raags specificly not allowed in islam?

  • dont know particularly, but raags r not allowed in islam, and its also worth mentioning that the most versatile and gr8est singers and raag practitionars hav been islamic... damn surprising !!!

  • why is it forbidden ? So that means singing is not allout in islam, wich is BULSHIT!!

Allah gave some people like : Great Nusrat Fateh ali khan and AMant ali khan Voices/talents, not to shut them untill they DIE!,, ( and if you are forbidding muslims from singing, than you self shouldn't even sing + LISTEN! to music.

  • I didnt say music is forbidden, only thing i meant was 'raag' (sargams) r not allowed in QuraN !!!

    i myt b wrong, watevr...

  • but Sargams are in every song,, If you can make Sargams in evry Song, that means that they are there,, ( Name a song what is played without Sargam,,( in every song there is Sa,or Ri, ga ma etc) CUZ every song has got high and low notes, :D ,, But why don;t you proof that there is a vers in the Quran that say's Raag is not allout,, i am going to ask even the Imam, Cuz that would mean a life without music for the muslims :P

  • kk i told ya i myt b wrong, i juz heard dat! thnx 4 lettin me know!

  • only bad (bey sur) singing is forbidden.

  • GEO! :) thats exactly how it is, piyar naheen hay sur say jis ko woh murakh insaan naheen

  • actually, depends on the school of thought

hanafi , salafi, hanabali , etc.

as do many other issues .......

  • we learn so much listening to legends thanks for putting this videos on for us music listers

  • He probably doesn't remember man ,Ustads don't even have the time to remember this...This shows how hard Classical really is...LOL...Really respected Khan sahib.

  • exactly!! atleast some1 is talking sense!!

  • Don't get upset...take a deep breath. He actually said that, to paraphrase him, I don't remember and knowing his generation and place where he was born, that's normal.

  • yeh dude he actually doesnt remember...he even admits it bless him. How is that poor of him though? maybe he was from a family that didnt make note of things like that. I respect him for admitting that he doesnt remember instead of lying and making up a year

  • Beautiful.Jiyo

  • i read about him he belong to patiyala gharana, to whom bade gulam ali khan belong. he is not nusrath fateh ali khan.

  • True...actually patiala gharana is ustaad shagird lineage. Badre Ghulam Ali was a hardcore kusuri (Punjab, Pakistan).

  • Having the same name does not mean they are same. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Ustad Fateh Ali Khan are two different people and are not related.

  • This is not Ud. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's father.

They have the same name and were both great vocalists but Ud. N. F. Ali Khan's father died in 1964. This Ud. Fateh Ali Khan is part of Amanat ali-Fateh Ali. They sing Hindustani classical. Ud. N. F. Ali Khan and his father sing Qawwali.

  • Agree with Babar please recspect

  • True...this is superb...I love it...

  • racerboy really loved your comment. Fateh Ali rules!!

  • i want(nusrat fateh ali khan no)

,only fateh ali khan ,,patyala gharan,,other ghazal &rog. mast ghazal,,safar ki moj main thy waqt k ubhar main thy,,.

  • This is the biggest loss for india after partition. This is divine experience ...

  • Ustad Fateh Ali Khan is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khans father BTW, to whoever said that they are not related.

  • dear london748cc, i am afraid your information is not quite correct. the late legend ustad nusrat fateh ali khansahab had one brother, farrukh fateh ali khan ( father of raahat, the current leader of the troupe)- who too sadly passed away in 2004. nusrat and farrukh's father was also called ustad fateh ali khan - which often can be a source of confusion. however, this ustad fateh ali khan ( the patiala gharana classical singer) is unrelated to nusrat's family.

  • Hello everybody. Ustad Fateh Ali Khan's father is Ustad Akhtar Hussain and there is no relationship between Ustad Fateh Ali Khan & Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

  • why you must guess so blindly. They are not related at all. Whats the point of your misrepresenting things?

  • kya baat hai the legends

  • I think he's been on more than 100 albums! I remember him from the soundtrack to "Natural Born killers", he sings with Peter Gabriel. Can anyone tell me the name of that instrument that is bowed on the right?

  • Dear that guy is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, he is a great Qawali singer but not equale to dirt of this guys feet.

  • This guy is "fateh ali khan" and that guy is "nusrat fateh ali khan" and they are not related.

  • any idea how i can acquire more of his music?

  • Thats Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan this is Fateh Ali Khan totally different. There is a lot more to Indian music than Ravi Shankar and Nusrat FAK.

  • Sarangi

  • primitive...

  • Hahahahahaha Just you wait. You will be attacked by other users for saying things like that.

  • Absolutely incredible. Ustad Fateh Ali Khan showing us Shiv Kalyan Patiala style. He really is an awesome classical singer one of the Best in the world at themoment. Pakistan still has not realised his worth and value. What a shame!!!

  • I disagree. Many singers like Roshan Ara Begum, Ustad Ghulam Hussain Shaggan, and Salamat ali Khan and Nazakat ali Khan were fantastic singers and just as the same caliber as Bhimsen Joshi, Mallikarjun Mansur, Jitherndra Abhishieki, and kumar Gandharva. We must also remember the magic and formidableness of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the great Qawwali singer from Pakistan, who was a great Khayal and Dhrupad singer as well.

  • vaa ji vaah saade shehar de ustaad

  • Ustad Fateh Ali Khan is soooo amazing...!!! i love him

  • Dreamlike... excellent...he is my favorite.

  • wonderful performance

  • PERFECT!!!

  • Are these elite musicians or what? That's incredible!

  • They are masters. Ustads. Extreme respect is required when you talk about them.

  • kiaaa baaath!!

  • 'kin absolutely amazing

  • can u please put the raag darbari as well or adana at the end of the concert. i love this concert he is great.

  • Awesome vid

  • Really wonderfull! What lovely music! Beautifull gamak tans, really inspiring to be able to hear and see these great artists! Thanking you kindly!
