  • very poignant. Great version too

  • very poignant. Great version too

  • I think its really cool each singing member of queen did a lennon song, Freddy did imagine, Roger did working class hero nd Brian did this nd all are brill

  • Why wear a YALE shirt when it is the root of all evil in the fucking world today. I can only assume he knows nothing about the brotherhood.

  • It's practically not even the same song...

  • And Rock music is my favourite genre of music :D

  • May and Lennon are my two favourite rock musician ever.

  • I don't believe in being Queen? He's been very depressive after Freddie passed away! We still love Queen anyway!!!!!!!!!!

  • @askhatman There was lots more to it than that. He was forced to metamorphose, become something more than he thought at the time. Queen was good for Brian but it also cast a shadow on his tiny light, now he has to stand alone. Freddie told B: his career was just beginning. It was an inititation time, he had to break with his former self. He didn't expect Freddie to ever be defeated, but it's not the real Freddie that gets defeated, only the image of his superhumanity. He's much more special...

  • what year is this?

  • @askhatman 1993

  • never seen brian stand with an accousting guitar before..

  • He gets carryed away at the end

    XD

  • it's easy to forget just how powerful Brians voice was. This was an excellent performance.

  • Comment removed

  • I like this melancholic voice

  • I adore John Lennon and I adore Brian May, and I adore this.

  • Un homenaje a Mister John Lennon.

  • "No one but you" sounds a lot like the studio version of God

  • I like it!

  • this man is a rocket scientist....you won't hear the lyric "I don't believe in Euler"

  • Queen

  • @Tambourineman324

    Forever!

  • When you don't be afraid who you are, so we can explain the concept of "alter", and leave in the basket all fears about you and the ego. So we will free, and bigger

  • what a wonderful song! Love Brian may, love Queen!

  • "There are only two ways of living, one is as if nothing is a miracle. The second is that everything is a miracle, I believe in the latter. --- Albert Einstein

"I used to be a atheist, till I thought I was God." --- John Lennon

  • He's defiled a timeless piece of art.

  • Comment removed

  • this cover is a sacrilege.

  • ...only Brian May could get away with this.

  • i burned some money and tax books yesterdday they smelled the same.

  • "There are only two ways of living, one is as if nothing is a miracle, the second is that everything is a miracle, I belive in the later." --- Albert Einstein

youtube "Einstein's God, Walter Issacson." ( if you get time)

CEO of CNN, and chief editor of Time magazine, had some insights based on Einsteins semi recently released letters by his son in 1999, I think. You judge for yourself. Better to light a candle than curse the darkness. Keep shining:) Psalm 34

    Rock On:)))

  • BRIAN ♥

  • i just belive in me ..... and me..... john said Yoko Brian what has said? please tell me i don't understand

  • @silviabulsara he didn't say anything, just left out the lyrics until the 'and that's reality' part.

  • @Underground906 tnx !!! :)

  • i just belive in me ..... and me john said Yoko Brian what has said? please tell me i don't understand

  • Losing genius, the dreams ........ well....... it takes real balls to reckon with it. Hurtful, painful ... hell... that doesn't even come close... Brian could have chosen a thousand songs....he chose one that impacted him personally and deeply...and he performed it to my own heartbreak...and I don't break easily......my heart and thanks go to Brian...thank you

  • when is this?

  • Comment removed

  • PLZ DONT COMPARE the two men plz, plz,LENNON IS A GENIUS May is a good musician.

  • Wow. This gave me chills when the back up singers chimed in. Even though he took liberties with the lyrics its still one of the best covers I heard.....yeah I gotta fave this one.

  • Until I heard this ... I never realized how marvellous Brian May's vocal really is....great song thanks jL

  • I wish he'd batter himself lifeless with that super duper cheapy shitty home made guitar !

  • @MrNodzilla Are you talking about Brians 12 string? I seriously doubt it's a cheap guitar.

  • @sgtpepper1138

He's talking about the Red Special, but it was still a stupid comment.

  • @iamvegito Ah, I didn't see the home made part (or else I would have gotten it). Yeah it's so crappy that people including my self want to build a copy of it. And it just SOUNDS like crap......arg.

  • @Julencja28 No one can replace Freddie.

  • goose bumps!!!! just briliant.

  • paskaa...

  • amazing ;~

    nostalgia

  • wish there was a better quality one or studio version

  • Wow, amazing cover. May really personalized such a defining Lennon song.

  • Great Brian May

  • whose the drummer ?

  • @esotericeric93 His mother's? ;o) (You meant "Who's [who is] the drummer?", right?

  • @esotericeric93 I do believe that is Cozy Powell...

  • I wish there was a studio version of this song by Brian May. Mayby If Yoko Ono would agree "because she has all the rights from the John Lennon Songs" Brian could put it on his next album whenever that may be. Dear Mr.May could you would you please? It would mean a lot to me and many Queen/Brian May fans all over the world.

  • @poussyledzep You're a piece of shit. May and Lennon are legends, end of story.

  • sorry but brian badly covered the greatest song by the great lennon

  • The dream is over, what can I say The dream is over, yesterday We were the fab ones, but now it is gone I was the gentle one, but now I must be strong And so dear friends we'll just have to carry on The dream is over The dream is over, no matter what they say The dream is over, it has to be this way We played in springtime, but now I play in fall We hit the bigtime, but now we are small And our dear friend let's hope he has it all, still The dream is over
  • I don't believe in magic I don't believe in pain I don't believe in heroes I don't believe in fame I don't believe the newsprint I don't believe we're free I don't believe in nations I don't believe in pride I don't believe in pressure I don't believe we're right I don't believe in torture I don't believe in fight I don't believe in colour I don't believe in white I don't believe in history
  • I don't believe in being Queen any more

    I just believe in me

    Just you guys and me

    And that's reality

    Yes the dream is over

    Dream on

  • I can not believe some of what I am reading here. In John's version it was about him and Yoko, a good bye message to Paul and (the dream is over, yesterday ...being Paul.) the Beatles fans. Secondly, believe in yourself - simply put. Brian May's version is basically the same in his own words. He "related" with what John said. Keep on playin those mind games people. Sheesh.

  • nice. i didnt know brian may had such a good voice

  • God is a concept by which we measure our pain.

  • Wow this is a great cover!!!!!!!

  • Please just listen the original....

  • amazing!! wonderful! I never heared Bri hardrocking before!

  • o u have the lirycs for this? its different from the lennon lirycs...where can i find them, ?

  • Just heartbreaking.

A beautiful song in its original incarnation, but to a Queen fan, this version just means so much more and touches so much deeper. I never fail to cry at his rendition.

Thank you SO much for posting this.

  • That audience is so obnoxious.

  • Notice how the lights dim before the Queen reference.

  • jonh lennon is jonh lennon, brian may is brian may..

and the TWO GUYS are amazing...

  • @Gabuchilovemanga

please dont compare John lennon cause it is a blasphemy,i,Lennon revolutionned the rock and roll

  • @poussyledzep Uhh, not really. Lennon didn't do a lot of rock writing. Hendrix and Brian probably had more of a lasting impact on rock.

  • @SigandGibbs- name a rock band who haven't been influenced by the Beatles?

Even Dylan was influenced by them.

  • @tomwantshelp AC/DC

  • @SigandGibbs Listen to a song like "Night Prowler", and tell me that it isn't lyrically influenced by Lennon/McCartney. Musically, AC/DC are Sgt Pepper's + Ramones, like most post-Beatles music, though prodimently Ramones.

@elektra- if Lennon was overrated, then I take it you don't like any music produced since about 1966? Everything since then stems from Revolver/Pepper in some way.

  • @tomwantshelp Hm, I'm surprised, you seem to know your stuff. All I'm saying is, I think there's room for plenty more music heroes other than Lennon, and I personally preferred McCartney anyway :P I think Brian May was wildly innovative, and he inspired many many bands.

  • @SigandGibbs - oh, I agree. I love Queen, and Hendrix, and AC/DC. There are loads of people who've done a lot for the genre.

I'm also predominantly a McCartney man. Whenever I list my favourite Beatles songs, I end up listing 5 McCartney songs (or 4 + Harrison) and have to throw in a Lennon one to balance it out.

  • @tomwantshelp HAHA JUST RANDOMLY THROW IN HENDRIX AND ACDC WHO HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!!!!!

  • @b0w13nspac3

Excuse me, your shift button seems to be broken. You might want to get someone to have a look at it.

Hendrix and AC/DC were mentioned by SigandGibbs in our conversation, therefore they have something to do with it. Whatever "it" is.

  • @poussyledzep lennon was overrated piece of shit just like u

  • @elektra1984

you are pitiful especially when you criticize an icon and a myth asswhipe,go and learn what the rock and roll history IS,before comparing May with who had revolutionned the music, tard, moron, idiot.

  • @Gabuchilovemanga jonh lennon is no one. and john lennon is god.

  • @asaint4 yes he was the true messiah

  • @Gabuchilovemanga WRONG! jonh lennon is NOT jonh lennon! jonh lennon is John Lennon!

  • Great version, thanks for posting.

  • iam not a fan of queen just knew that they did go on after freddie , but i wish i could listen to freddie doing this , nice performance btw

  • Comment removed

  • Ugh, that's heartbreaking. I've never watched it all the way through before. It's beautiful, an amazing performance, but heartbreaking.

  • can someone publish the lyrics?

  • I think this is a rare example of a perfect song. I think I give this song more respect than I give many many many others, and I believe in a top 10 list this would be on there. Brian does it great justice, and the original itself if beautiful. I think it's a song every should take in as there own, much like Brian did.

  • Quite a good performance, but I much prefer John's lyrics.

  • "i don't beleive in being Queen anymore..."

makes me cry every f*ckin' time.

plus his voice is so great on this song, it can only touch you.

  • @frenchqueen1988 HAHAHA MAKES YOU CRY HAHAHAH!!!!

  • @frenchqueen1988

report this song if it touches you next time

  • his voice is sometimes crap but here he makes u cry... he and john L. would make a splendid singning couple pity john's dead.... peace be with u johnny somewhere not in heaven but you're certanly somewhere!! love u both

  • john is the original singer, but brian may adds more melancholic voice, great cover!

  • i love brian's voice. he added some great lyrics to this.

  • I was at this show! I'm pretty sure it was at The Palace in New Haven, CT. That's why Brian is wearing a Yale shirt. This was a great show in a small venue. Brian did Love Of My Life too and did a great job with it. It was the 1st time I heard him sing it. I think this is from 1993. He did a lot of QUEEN songs and used a lot of great into's & outro's. I met Brian a night later in Rhode Island and he recalled in great detail playing in my hometown of Waterbury, CT back in 74. Thanks for post!

  • @drowser598

I was at the concert in New Haven that night and the following night in Providence as well. Two nights I'll never forget... I took sent him a few of my photos I had taken in Providence and it took a year but I did get a response from him. Unique shots and I guess he liked them. I wish more people had attended both concerts. Fan club screwed him over big time!! They didn't tell club members the itinerary until the tour was over and done.

  • For reasons best known to herself, Yoko wouldn't let Brian include this on his "Live At Brixton" Video. Make of that what you will

  • King May !

  • Cozy Powell on the drums RIP.

  • Wow ... Brian may can sing!

  • This version of May capture the essence of Lennonn's writing. We all "don't believe" in diferent things. The problem of mankind is that we're all waiting for someone else to solve the problems... and forgeting that we need to start with ourselfs to make some change.

  • You can't even hear what he's saying cause you got all these fucking idiots going..............woooooa....woooaaaa.....where the fuck was this recorded.........in Alabama?LOL.

  • Wow, everyone takes this so seriously...I don't think that John Lennon would have a problem whatsoever about Brian doing this, (he did a great job). And about people being offended by the lyrics change: it would have been more ridiculous if he had've kept them the same, (and probably offended more people). Brian did a great job, and I'm glad he covered this song.

  • wow brian can sing so good............he should sing more songs........its a perfect cover of a great song from lennon

  • You have misunderstood the point. Brian May changed the lyrics to symbolize what he felt at the time. And it hurts so much to hear the words. My heart sink everytime.

"I don't believe in being Queen anymore..."

It's just so incredibly sad, given what had happened with Freddie's passing.

I'm glad Brian and Roger are back out on the road to bring Queen's music to those who never got a chance last time around.

    Freddie's spirit lives on.

  • You don't have to like Brian May, you don't have to like Queen. You don't even have to say WHY, but it would be appreciated. You should just respect them because what they did is outstanding.

  • i couldnt agree more....its likewhen green day covered working class hero....that song can only be done by lennon

  • at least Greenday's version was better than Marilyn Manson's version. Greendays version was not good but, that was just horrible.

  • Wow. I never knew Brian May had such a nice voice.

  • God damn it. I cried.

  • I cried too...

  • This is just fuckin awsome

  • ...believe in Queen anymore, I just believe in you,...I love the arrangement at 4.47

  • I love to play this and sing it because it's a beautiful, soulful bit of music ...

I can't imagine ever wanting to cover it though because the words are so specific to John Lennon!

Good job Brian, all the same!

  • God by the GOD Lennon

    amazing lyrics !!

    amazing greatest songwriter ever!!

  • The song is about beeing spiritual (not only religious) also about resignation: unattach yourself from the things that once made you happy, but won't last forever (like beattles). His happiness was not tied up to his success, he was happy to leave all that behind and live a normal life for 5 year with his son&wife (see watching the wheels). At least this is what I understand from this great song, together with LOVE and IMAGINE, the best of John. A huge man... living in a small world.

  • One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.... And good Lord, what an amazing vocal by Bri!!!

I'm so happy that he managed to get through all the sad things and dissapointments and that Queen is still alive!

God save the Queen. God save Brian.

  • In never wanted Queen to be over but just like John Deacon it is the dream is over of one of the greatest rock bands. Good bye Mr. Bad Guy!

  • Sorry ,although I'm a big fan of Queen and May,also of Beatles, but its silly for Brain to do that.

even if he wanted to say that Queen is over by death of Freddie ,how can he say "I don't believe in Queen"?

John Said "I don't believe in Beatles" after Beatles breakup in 1970, he was having disagreements with other members and wanted to move on with his life with Yoko.he was sending message to the world ,Paul,George, his fans that the dream is over by his decision.

Funny of Brian to do that!

  • I think Lennon was referring to something much bigger than the breakup of the Beatles in his line "I don't believe in Beatles". He was telling people to stop worshiping others - gods or musicians or whomever. He wanted the listener to turn inward. God is you. I am god.

  • ... and "the dream is over" is not so shallow as to refer to Lennon's dream of being in a band called the Beatles being over. He's talking about how whatever it is one takes great stock in, is pointless. These "dreams" die and in the end all we have are ourselves. The world is an illusion and most people spend their lives totally absorbed and lost in this "ride". It's not real. Find your true self from within, not from the artificial outside influences like religion, sex, careers and cars

  • You have a good point in that...

but looking back and searching at that time..there was alot happening...John always wanted to be the one to announce the breakup and he was pissed when Paul made that..

so it is both aims he made in the song.

anyway my point is still May should not compare it to Queen, specially he made his best in years to come to continue with the "dream" ,even brought Paul Rogers ...

whatever any queen fan opinion of that, May did not believe that "Queen dream is over!!"

  • I remember Brian playing this on tour in 1993 and thinking to myself that it was a statement song. He seemed to be saying, "Queen fans, sorry, but Queen is finished. I'm moving on."

Of course, he completely changed course on that sentiment by touring and making an album under the name Queen + Paul Rodgers.

Keep dreaming, Brian, because Queen REALLY IS OVER!

  • @duhg totally agree

  • May didn't sing this for religious reasons, that's why he cut out all the references to God and called it 'The Dream Is Over'. It's just about how the dream of Queen is over after Freddie died. So quit the religious chatter here, it's besides the point.

  • I don't John Lennon was saying anything religious either. People take things to literally sometime.

  • Comment removed

  • It would've been better had he included the -actual- words to the damn song: GOD IS A CONCEPT, by which we can measure, Our pain... I don't believe in magic, I don't believe in I-ching, I don't believe in the bible, I don't believe in tarot, I DON'T BELIEVE IN HITLER,

I don't believe in Jesus,I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me. And that's reality.

What's so horrible about the original lyrics?

  • Some of the best lyrics in history.

Some find it hard to accept the credit or the blame. I think John was trying to explain there IS a beginning and an end to everything; and its better to accept that than give credit or place blame.

  • I loved that! I love this song! I did not know Brian had played it live in memory of John! I love Brian, Freddie and John! Thanks for the video.

  • hoe in the fuck can you sound good on audio "singing " but when you speak,.,,'l; Arnold

  • coming from a chritian perspective i must say that people dont understand what john lennon was implying. from what i understand was that he meant that the beatles are now more likable than the church as it was/still is corrupt. and to be fair he is right. we need to take a note from islam. there should be no establishment standing in the way of god. people should be confident in faith enough to live without out it. the church has corrupted the bible and the religion so much. they should dissolve

  • After they (the churches) pay for their crimes against humanity; they should pay taxes and back taxes for having led the populace down the road of deceit and denial. Most churches do little to nothing FOR the community, and thats what they should be for. Either they practice what they preach or they PAY TAXES!

  • That is true of only TWO dinominations in the UK at least! As a Baptist, i can tell you that my church has never recieved a penny from central government, since it was formed in 1660, because we are considered "Radicals to the state", even three and a half centuries on, the Anglican church and the Catholics however, are VERY differant. Religion Kills BUT Faith SAVES

  • Do religions, churches pay the same tax as everyone else? If they dont, like here in the USA, then they do get money from the government. If you actually live by your faith and not just proclaim it, I have no quarrel with you. In America it is the people who are 'without' faith that are the radicals and religion and the religious are forgiven every transgression. In America the religious are the main opponent to universal healthcare. IIt makes them hypocrites, even to their own 'God'.

  • Well done Mr May.

  • this is an excellent cover, john lennon was the greatest ever living musician, ther are arguments for Cohen, Dylan, Zappa, and many more but lennon was the ali of music, would u agree???

  • I love John, but that's a difficult question.

I like Freddie Mercury, JImi Hendrix, JOe satriani, and some others too besides JOhn and Paul.

  • I caught a Cliff Richards gig during his heavy acid and speed period - kick ass night -a very underestimated artist.

  • JOHN LENNON still GOD!!!

  • quality!!!

  • i have this live from london 1993...

    really nice :)

"We were the fab once, but now it's gone"

  • This sounds great to me. I love the fact that people of intelligence (Brian May did a physics degree at university) have finally got the balls to say to the world that the fantasy of jesus, mohammed, moses and all the other primitives is unacceptable to 'big boys' . We know better and we won't take the BS anymore.

  • Well people of intelligence had the balls to say it before, the only problem was they were executed by the Catholic church as heretics ;). Now people won't stand for that, and people are throwing off the chains of religion at last!

  • your over rating our intelligence...seriously, we havent even gotten on mars and we think we own the universe...lol

thats why i think athiests have huge ego's...

religion will last as long as humanity does, or until a dictator slaughters the millions that believe in it...

  • This great song was lost for copyright reasons in 1993...it wasn´t on "Live At The Brixton Academy"....

  • Great song! In 1975 John Lennon said: "If The Beatles were greater than Jesus, then what does that make Queen!"

  • "If The Beatles were greater than Jesus, then what does that make Queen!"

    Greater than God!

  • God is the most powerful weapon of massive destruction. The vaccine: ateism.

    Power to the people!

  • hmm

  • right on keep posting

  • This song is so beautiful.

  • "i dont believe in queen nemore"

well, he does, coz theyre makin a new album lol

  • Cool clip here. I love it when one of my heroes sings another hero's song.

Does anyone know the date of this clip and a transcription of the lyrics (of THIS version)?

  • did he say I dont believe in Queen lol?

  • he said "I dont believe in being Queen anymore" .. without Freddie theres no Queen anymore

  • thats why i dont like queen+ paul rogers cause no one can never replace freddy's amazing voice
