I lived on the airship for over a year with Darkbutcher. The Hammer with Evilbutcher. Most people quested in Storm Peaks because it was not as dangerous as Icecrown. When I heard the music that meant I was home. Even now, still the best music in the game.
Blood dk 6.1k gs LFG 10/25m ICC fresh! :) I loved WotLK. Idc what anybody thinks, this was a classical expansion which I loved more and more over time. Classic.
It was funny farming in Icecrown for ore (engineer) and seeing both factions doing the same on a pvp server. I was thinking there will must be fights breaking out all over the place, but the opposite happened.. well, most of the time!
I'm still astonished how Tirion managed to win over the Lich King with only a few hundred thousands, especially in 40- minus degrees, in a land where nothing lives and every provition had to be transported to the front through rough terrain, and let's not begin talking about the Scourge army rumoured to have more than a million slaves, all immune to cold, hunger and disease, restless, unrelenting killing machines willing to do everything their master asked of them :O
This really is an accelerating piece of art, blizzard has implemented in the game. This music has so much emotion followed behind it. The memories of my first time entering this area. Blizzard keeps this beautiful music coming for the people that appreciate it, like me.
The icy creeping violins at 3:18 are what made the zone for me, they echo with the same emptiness and deathly quiet that permeates from Icecrown, blizzard's orchestra is truly incredible in pulling our strings as well as the ones on their instrumental pieces.
@LichKingsWrath Yes...but haven't Arthas and Ner'zhul merged their souls at the end of the WC3's expansion???. It seems strange that only removing the Lich King's helm Arthas is suddenly "freed" from Nehr'zul's control.....
Or it was Frostmourne that really "controlled" the mind of Arthas?????.
@ShinXari No not at all, what it is is that Frostmourne steals souls for Ner'zhuls complete and utter control, Ner'zhul's souls and Arthas' souls were not bound together, ner'zhul needed an avatar and arthas was his avatar. Frostmourne only TAINTED his soul FYI/
I truly do love WoW, but don't you guys think they are kinda killing their lore? Don't get me wrong I love the game, but when you spend two expansion building the lich king then two more showing how fucking awesome he is...why kill him?

The music in game gives you the felling that this area is a main area of terror. Or this area is very peacefull and there would be a harp playing or sumthing.
WC3 came out before Return of the king, the lich king already had his own unique appearance before the witch king so i don't know why people keep saying the lich kings look is a rip off from the witch kings. (lol they rhyme)
The original Lich King Ner'zhul's remains (the armor) vaguely resembled the styling of Mordor and the WK. It didn't help that Icecrown Glacier in WotLK had the same styles of architecture and gritty forges and armies and gates as far as the eye can see. In essence, what we've seen of Icecrown is Mordor in a fridge.
First time i went into Icecrown and heard this song playing i swear i felt like it was a more advanced playing field then any other area. This music put chills down my spine. Incredible song indeed! one of the best it is.
@TekHelper Of course, some of the Vrykul and Penguins on the edge of the glacier are alive, but all natural life was destroyed when Kil'Jaeden threw Ner'Zhul there.
i went to ice crown on a private server and went there it was AWSOME! i killed all the scourge there lol and what the heck is the citidal of darkness or whatever it is called?

anyone who says the Lich King is ripped off from LotR isnt thinking right, correct/thumb down me if Im wrong, w/e, but didn't the Lich King exist before the movie, also the Citadel itself looks nothing like Barad'dur from the movie...the only similarity is the positioning of the undead compared to how they were in Mordor in the movie...Id call Icecrown more of a reference or nod to LotR, not a complete rip off..
I agree. The Lord of the Rings may be the poster child many fantasy settings, but if you take a good hard look at the literature from before LotR, you'll find that there are numerous influences that J.R.R borrowed liberally from. The Kalevala for instance. Blizzard only gets mild inspiration and then they go nuts with the rest on their own.
I wouldn't say it's a complete ripoff, but there are some striking similarities. For instance the Lich King is very similar in appearance to the Witch King, who is also a malevolent force. The Witch King's name is Nazgul, Arthas is fused with Nar'zul to create the Lich King. The Ocular is similar to the eye of Sauron, etc. Is this bad? No. I still enjoy was Blizzard has done.
The Witch King's discription from the LotR novels is pretty different, plus, im pretty sure WC3 came out before Return of the king, the Lich King already had his own unique appearance before the Witch King, Nerh'zul nor Nar'zul, the Ocular is the only similarity thats 100% true, and believe me, too many people havent read the books by the time of WC2, so Nerh'zul was likely known better. But we are all entitled to our opinions, none the less :)
I do not care if Icecrown Citadel is a LoTR remake..Lich King just just pure awesomeness..Aswell the first part of the track popped up when I saw the citadel..I was overwhelmed.
No, he wrote the beginnings to the Silmarillion during WWI. Lord of the Rings was written when his children were all off either fighting in WWII or were too old for a story like the Hobbit.
I am pretty sure that Tolkien created the Orc. Goblins and some other creatures from his book were already created. Greek mythology came up with alot of stuff also.
Yes, there is also a "The 1 Ring" item, but... these are simple references, the plots are totally different, the characters are on several factions more than LoTR, there are more conflicts between factions than LoTR. Yes, there can be some quotes to the Master Book of the Lore that is LoTR, but the Multiverse and other things like Aspects are totally different from that.
To all those claiming that WoW didn't borrow from Lotr.
You're rather wrong.
Two PLAIN examples. The Eye of the Lich King is clearly based off of the Eye of Sauron. Seconly, the Battle for the Wrath Gate is clearly based off of the Battle for the Black Gate.
So, I assure you, Lotr was in mind when WoW was made.
Might I remind you stationary, that those are prime examples from the movie, not the book. It would only take someone's imagination to coincidentally think up images similar to those for it to be the book.
Also, the Lich King's Eye, is not just one all powerful "thing", it's a type of unit he uses all over(acherus, Ebon Hold, and the one Gate nearest to ICC).
YOU ARE right about one thing, LotR was in mind when WoW was made, but even bliz admits that. They pay homage in other ways they can.
I lived on the airship for over a year with Darkbutcher. The Hammer with Evilbutcher. Most people quested in Storm Peaks because it was not as dangerous as Icecrown. When I heard the music that meant I was home. Even now, still the best music in the game.

But we are all entitled to our opinions, none the less :)

yes its wrong....JRR tolkien wrote the first bits in the trenches in WWI not WWII :P
Huntersrbija 3 years ago

You're about as ignorant as they come. Lord of the Rings was written during WWII. LONG before Warcraft, Warhammer or anything of the sort.
