  • Hey man thanx for the video. I also have a stray. He came into my yard late last month.

He's a cool character and took to bathing easy this first time. Now that i saw this i feel better to try a leash on him. Awesome video!!

  • I think it's fantastic that you rescued this georgeous boy and have earned his trust and affection so he'll let you put a harness on him. it is not easy ! I tried for the first time to put one on my ragdoll cat and she almost bit me! I felt like maybe she wasn't

meant to wear it then I watched your video and I know now what to do ! thanks !!

  • "cats aren't dogs"...BRILLIANT. But no really this video is awesome! thanks, I'm going to try walking my kitten. ps John Junior is soooo cute strutting his stuff!

  • You're cat is beautiful! I'm going to start training my cat (Grunt).

He went from an inside/outside cat to a full inside and I feel that's it's not fair taking him totally away from outdoors. I feel this is the safest way to let him have the best of both worlds =)

  • nice slipper

  • Great video! Thanks for posting and your cat is gorgeous. My girlfriend can't wait to get our ragdoll out on a leash. Do you think it's possible to walk our lab puppy and our ragdoll together? They both get along well, just a thought.

  • @cali831

    I don't see why not =)

Teach them together I'm sure it would be a lot of fun.

The only suggestion I can give is dont want your dog until it's a little older. Puppies catch parvo easily.

And when walking your cat make sure your neibhorhood doesn't have lose dogs.

Good luck! Appreciate the kind words.

  • is that an outdoor run?

  • @kaaatable

    It's their safe haven

  • you forgot to mention liberal use of treats ^.^

  • @kaaatable

Depends if your cats food motivated =P

  • I recently lost my 15yo cat Missy and the house ws just so empty I adopted a young guy I named Smoochies. Missy loved the leash from day 1 but he was a kitten, Smooch is around 1 yo I think so your vid is great info to teach him. You did a great job with the training and the vid, both enjoying the process I can tell :-). Thanks for doing it.

  • @priscacara

It's so hard losing a pet. The reason why it hurts so much is because we love them so much.

Appreciate the kind words. Always cherish the time you have with your pets =) Smooch sounds like shes in good hands!

  • those are some pretty clean floors ;) haha

  • @southsideking1993

    Just a little liter =P

  • OMG!! Junior is so cute!! I just recently started my kitten Freya on the harness and leash (actually started her TODAY!!) I was able to get the thing on her no problem. As I type this, she's walking around like the harness is natural to her!!

  • @SuperServal

Congrats! Sounds like you have a natural! Have fun and be safe =)

  • Socks and flip flops. The best feeling in the world.

  • @JELLizm

Woo hoo! Flip Flops and socks fan! =)

  • thanks for the video. i hope i can get my new adopted kitty to enjoy walks as much as junior :o) how is he doing?

  • @r46016

Good luck and thanks for adopting. Junior is doing great! Thank You for asking =)

  • wonderful! A guy who bonds with cats and is patient and loving! Very rare! So no bad comments!

  • @inannarising1

    Thank You =)

  • what is tha harness called? (what is the brand?) where did you get it?

  • @swade21796

Walking Jacket made by Met Pet. I got it on Ebay.

  • When they bite you lightly, as long as it's like they hold ur hand with there mouth sorta thing. Similar to kissing. Cats lick to clean, or show affection. They bite lightly to kiss. When they eat there prey they bite in bursts, consistantly moving there jaw up and down. If they do that, there trying to eat you.

  • @AutoJunkieMan

Thank you for the feed back. Have a great week =)

  • My cat dosn't like being pet....

  • I got my kitty as a kitten and we got him comfortable with the harness rather early. He loves to sit outside on his leash! I'm now trying to get to a walking stage with him. He's fine with the harness and leash, but as soon as take the leash off of the chair we tie it around he starts getting a little less comfortable. Is there any tip you could give me to help get him more comfortable going further out into our yard, any maybe eventually out onto the sidewalk?

  • @MelodyPythonVeria

You just have to work with your cat slowly through each step. It took a while for my cat to get out to the front yard.

  • ... that he wasn't completely comfortable. But considering how long it took you with your adult cat, I guess I'm making great progress with my kitten, Flynn. To get where I did today probably took about a month and I wasn't doing this every day. Just once a week. He doesn't take my lead on the leash however. So I'm going to use more treats and train him in the house. I still worry his harness is too big for him, just slightly. But I think he'll grow into it. Do you have any other tips?

  • @XYumekoX

Sounds like you're doing a great job and making great progress! It takes time cats have their comfort level.

If you have any doubts the harness is too big I wouldn't go outside for now. Dont want to risk your cat getting scared and getting lost.

Also be aware if theres dogs in the area so you dont go to far from home. Just be patient and most importantly stay safe. Your cats comfort level will grow as time passes =)

  • @XYumekoX

Cats are all about comfort level it seems. Just the fact your cat is making progress that's a lot to be proud of =)

  • I have a bengal kitten, he's about 5 months old now I think. I was told his breed can be leash trained so I started with just putting a cheap harness on him and he rolled over as if he couldn't walk. So after a minute I took it off. I tried several times after and then finally my Dad got him to walk with it on by offering food and I got him to play while wearing it. Today I bought him a more expensive padded harness and took him outside. He had fun pouncing on moths but I could tell...cont.

  • does anyone else feel like this guy is a werido schizophrenic....especially when he says "hey juuuunniorrr"

  • @lorringo

I'm a schizophrenic for loving my cat? Real classy comment man.

  • @lorringo you're an idiot.

  • @lorringo

    No.

  • My cat has graduated from walking around in my apartment to the apartment building hallway. Everyday I sit with him in the hallway for increasing amounts of time. But he's scared, shaking. Is there anything I can do to help him get over that? Or do I just have to wait for him to realize that he's not going to get eaten alive?

  • @InYourFaceNewYorker

You're doing a great job! Just keep on doing what you're doing hang out out show him and in time that comfort zone will expand.

  • your cat is fat

  • @lenin713

Haha he needs to walk more! =)

  • My cat is now used to the leash. I took him out into my apartment hallway. He's gone out there before on his own but usually runs right back in as soon as he sees I"m about to close the door. He's really scared of everything. How do I get him used to going outside my door, let alone outside my building, let alone for a walk?

  • @InYourFaceNewYorker

It takes time my friend, just slowly get further and further as time progresses.

  • bro, your cat is so chill

  • @rockedthrewtheboards

I lucked out with him, he's a good guy =)

  • My cat calms down when I put the leash on him and just goes to sleep. Any idea why? How long will it take for him to act like his old self on the leash?

  • @InYourFaceNewYorker

Time and patience. It's 1 step at a time even if you have to spend a long time on 1 step =P

  • Will your cat go for walks around the neighborhood?

  • @InYourFaceNewYorker

He gets out to the front yard about 2 houses down then he wants to go back home.

  • @FBBMyspace is it possible to get your cat to walk in the direction you want once u get him or her on a leash. Both my cats love going outside on their leashes but i cant get them to walk with me, only where ever they want to go.): I really want to b able to take them for walks around the block. My little one can play fetch and the bigger ome can beg(: they r so cute

  • @crazycat1424

Sounds like your doing great! It seems to me cats will just go where they feel like going. Mine just goes as far as 2 houses away from home. They have their comfort zone.

  • I taught my cat to walk on a leash. We just used the regular harness and she did fine with it. I started when she was 4 months old. They are definately different than dogs. In the beginning she didn't want to leave the property so I would carry here away and she would walk and sometimes we'd run back home. I discovered she prefers walking at night when it's dark. I guess cats like dark places. I'm hoping that she will no fear of the outdoors my the end of the summer.

  • @DuffyTy

Thanks for sharing your story. I actually never tried walking my cat at night. Im going to try tommorow!

  • What kind of cat is Jr?

  • @imblessed62

    I think he's a maine coon.

  • Love the video. I want a dog but now I want a cat like yours. And also is it not true that when they are rescued they are friendlier to their owners? And wow 3-4 months?????!!!!

    You must be really patient.

  • @Deathnote819

I really believe that he appreciates his life now Vs what he had before. He used to live out in the canyons and he was freaked out because there was hawks everywhere. When I brought him home he was like a whole new cat.

    Pwtience is the key!

  • Love the video. I want a dog but now I want a cat like yours. And also is it not true that when they are rescued they are friendlier to their owners? And wow 3-4 months?????!!!!

    You must be really patient.

  • I think I want to be your best friend. You seem so nice haha. The leash looked a little tight though.

  • @holycrap127

It's good you can still slip a finger in there. Don't want it too loose cats are squirmy little guys =P

  • Great vid! ...hehe, socks with sandals ftw!

  • @witchraven96

Thanks you! Gotta go with socks and sandals! Dont want sun burn on my feet! =P

  • @FBBMyspace I was wondering if I should train my cat, Skitty, to walk on a leash. I rescued her from being abandoned outside my former next door neighbor's house. She was outside for about a week. She got her claws pulled, and remains indoors. When she's inside, we keep her away from open doors. Would it be a total shock to her doing this? This is why I wanted to ask before I try training her. Thank you. =)

  • @themeowmaster

Absolutly give it a shot! Just be patient and if it takes long hey look at the bright side you'll be bonding =)

Whenever you succesfully get it on just work 1 step at a time torwards the door. Don't rush just do it with the intention of bonding and be positive =)

  • @themeowmaster awe, why would you declaw her? :(

  • @RaidensONLYfan I, personally, did not want to. But, I'm not the one who can make that decision, my parents are.. I personally wasn't happy about it.

  • Thank you for teaching me how to get my 4 months old little female cat, to wear a little small dogs life jacket.

That way she will be safe with me in and on the sailboat at sea. Many pets are lost at sea every year. She will be free to go in and out the boat in marinas. Thanks.

  • @Doupirate

    Share a video =)

  • You pet the cat like a spastic,

  • @bogan182

    Is that bad? =P

  • @FBBMyspace Yes just look at the video, without sound it's worse. See you cats facial expression, and you like pull his head back. that's why he's squinting to keep his eye's closed. hah someone's gotta tell ya, You're continuously pat that one same spot with your thumb. hahaha I know this is random but seriously if I had my own video camera I would film a video for you of just how I pat my cat and how normal it compared to your way hahahaah.

  • @bogan182

Maybe I'm just use to petting dogs? =P

Well he does seem happy in the end of the video. He's happy right?

  • @FBBMyspace Well sure he's getting attention, can't complain but imagine how you'd feel if someone constantly stroke the same part of your face every single time and pulled your skin back which made your eye lids lift, having to squint to keep your eyes closed haha. Change your petting style for his sake.

  • @FBBMyspace and if you pet dogs like that that's even more strange, most dogs like to be petted rough, and not stroked on the same spot especially NOT like you were doing with the cat haha sorry man it's really weird.

  • @bogan182

Ok Ok! I get it you think I'm weird. Take it easy man.

  • @FBBMyspace Easy as chicken pie buddy

  • @bogan182 WHAT is WRONG with you??? Seriously?? Dude makes an awesome instructional video, obviously loves his cat, took *months* to train him to this walking jacket business, and you come on here and criticize the way he PETS *his* cat?!? You think he pets his cat "weird"?? You are insane. MY cat wishes I'd marry him... :)

  • @DaysFlyBy007 You are insane

  • @DaysFlyBy007

Thanks for having my back! =)

  • @bogan182 erm, have you ever had a cat before? Cats squint at when they are in lovey dovey mood

  • @FBBMyspace and no there's nothing wrong with the way you pet your cat! Your cat was purring like a mad man, so obviously he was enjoying it.

  • Awesome! It's funny how every once in a while, they hook a claw into you but still hang out. So, would you say he's walking u, or u him, or just coexisting for the time being? I'd be worried that if outside, a ill behaved dog might take a shot at a cat. What would you do - pick it up to protect it? Let it go so it could run up a tree? I guess intervene would be the most standup way to handle it. How many animals do you have?

  • @bladeimm

You know thats a very good question that I never really thought of. Anytime he's out in the front he's hanging out with me and my dog. Never had that to worry about. And we never go to far out. I leashed trained him so he can hangout with me and my dogs. So he wont get too bored you know?

    I have 4 cats and 2 dogs. =)

  • @ThePythonDude

Well said, he didn't look upset to me =)

  • OMG your cat is so cute!!!!

  • @ericskiproductions

I think his little quirks give him character =)

  • Black cat is going to fuck you up but no John jr did LOL. Seriously I have always wanted to do this. Added to fav list. If I pat Spastic on the side she will nibble on my arm. I'm sure its just there way of showing affection. You know when there not playing. The proof is in the scars. Take care Man!

  • @Glockwork9

Haha, he was like what the hell man! I know how to do this shit! Hurry up!

  • u say dont force them and if they dont wanna do it dont do it. but they will never want to do it, so eventually u have to force them. i just tryed to put a harness on my cat dina for the first time last night and she literally hissed at me. that might not sound like a big deal to ya'll but this cat lets me do anything to her and she never hissed at me. but when it came to that harness she really disliked me. im sorry my little baby.

  • @MsAfricanIndian

    Great points.

But it's the care of once they learn they do appreciate it =)

They just dont understand at first. Kind of like a kid going to school, we all cry our first day but it's an essential part of life =)

  • What do you do when you walk your cat? Just let him smell things and explore outdoors because he's an indoor cat? I want to get a indoor cat because they live longer, but I want him to be able to go outdoors, so is this how you do it?

  • when they bite you(ofc not so hard) there usually really playfull

  • @bowsicraft3

I find it very amusing when he bites me =P

  • you are great teacher and really comprehensive, but cats are not like wolfs, dogs, sheeps or horses, and they haven't the "following instinct". They 're stressed when go out of his territory, and they don't understand orders cause are independent, get a dog, friend, your cat is happy walking alone.

  • @eskriu

    I have a 2 dogs =)

John Junior seems to like walking on a leash. I just let him do his own thing I dont expect to go on 5 miles walks with him. I'm just trying to give him as complete a life as possible =)

  • what happens if you bump into a dog during the walk? the're not exactly gonna sniff eachothers butts? what are you meant to do?

  • @lavinia2309

That is a great question! I never stray to far from the house. Infact I limit him to the front yard. I should do a video where him and my dog are hanging out on leashes.

But yeah very good question. Best answer is know where your walking.

  • You have a really nice way with animals. Thanks for the video.

  • @RID1952

Thank you for the kind words =)

  • You and John Jr are so awesome! I laughed and learned through this whole video. You are a great teacher. I can't wait to get rescue cat, Norman a walking jacket!

  • Thanks for the tutorial.

I will start training my cat in a few days.

Thanks for pointing out that extreme patience is required. My cat is an adult as well. Should be interesting.

  • @louelke

Good luck on your journey! Just have fun it'll happen with time =)

  • FYI Your kitty is giving you love bites. >"<

  • @ladybuglaurie

    =D I love him too =)

  • Your kitty is giving you love bites.

  • Tried the whole thing with my small dogs normal harness. Tigger keeps on walking funny then rolling over attempting to bite it off xD

  • @xXmlgmasterXx

    Hey that's just step 1 =)

  • You should teach him to kill zombies!

you could get him a kitty sized AK-47

if you go to my channel and hit the AK paypal link, you can get 20% off through the end of the week.

  • @ebomey

HAha I gotta get Junior a mini AK!

  • it was very helpful

    thanks for the tip

  • @nc1230

    Glad it can help =)

  • love the ninja turtle feet your rocking here..LOL flipflops and sock's ROFL

  • @Mr5point56

    California thing!

  • Aww!! That's a cute video. watching this makes me want to have fun with the training process. I'm currently training my cat and so far it's going well. ^^

  • @chichirinuriko20

Thanks for the kind words. Good luck! Just be patient it's worth it! Just look how cool a cat on a leash looks =)

  • This was a great video thank you so much! I love that it isn't some scripted video with those annoying ads. You can really tell that you care about your animals a lot. :]

  • @hapahaole8o8

Thanks for the kind words =)

This guys my best bud =)

  • Great video...The piece of his ear that is clipped off is because he was a feral cat and he has been neutered. It’s a universal sign in the shelter/feral community. When strays and feral cats are found, shelters spay and neuter them to control the population and clip their ear so others know when they see the cat that they’ve been fixed.

  • @bestdamnsportstown

I was actually the one that TNR the guy. Over time he became more and more tame and I had to take home =)

  • Your kitties are beautiful! I'm hoping to get my 6-month old to try going for walks one day.

  • @Joyceline

Thanks for the kind words =)

Just be patient you and your cat will pull it off and it'll be worth it because cats on leashes look cool! =)

  • love that black!!!

  • @marlonfred395

She's awesome! She has a chip on her shoulder sure =)

  • You're great with your cats, nice tutorial! thx!

  • @555tracy

    Thank you =)

  • You're great with your cats, nice tutorial! thx!

  • Thank u so much for this video! I just got my cats a leash and was wondering how to get them to walk with one :)

  • @CaliforniaLuv84

Good luck! Just be patient and you and your cat will succeed =)

  • Is your cat missing part of his right ear?

  • @blizard0717

Yeah, like I said he was a former stray cat. I have no clue what happened to his ear =(

  • @FBBMyspace I like it. He looks like some bad ass pirate.

  • @blizard0717

    Gives him character =P

  • Thank you. Junior is a handsome boy. I hope my crazy little tortie will take to the leash as well as your cat.

  • @MiscMars

Good luck! Be sure to document it =)

  • You are a very nice person. It was almost like a Cat 411 from a Dog Person..

  • @Kiwiness

Thanks for the kind words =)

This is my other account =P

  • @FireArmsResQ Oh cool, please make more video! And yeah being a dog person myself as well i kept treating my cat like a dog.. (not on purpose). lol

  • @Kiwiness

What kind of videos do you want to see?

  • You are a very nice person.

  • cool vid but loose the socks with the flip flops!

  • @zekehooper

Flip flops and socks are making a comeback in 2011!

  • Why can't I just use a normal leash? Why should I use a jacket/harness?

  • @AngelOfDarkness1311

It's a lot more secure and theres 0 chance your cat can wiggle out of it if you put it on right =)

  • i completely disagree!! The first thing you need is not a jacket! It's a cat!

I'll start training mine in a few day and so far your vid is the most helpful one I've watch. ^^

  • @PhallusNocturne

    ZING! Haha.

Good luck with your cat. Feel free to post a video response =)

  • my cat is 7 she a bit over weight but i really want to get her outside and excersise.(shes an indoor cat) since shes 7, do you think its too late to train her? By the way shes lazy :P but i want to try it! What do you think?

  • @Teddie120

I say now is as good a time as any =)

  • my cat is only 4 months old and he likes to play with things most of the time. His other side is an affectionate cuddly lover.. He has never been outside. I have the harness on him right now, we kinna struggled getting it on- with him biting a bit and being frisky. He doesn't mind the feel of the harness but, i'm wondering what it would be like if I actually took him outside, or maybe into the wilderness first- so the cars don't scare him.

  • @theshepard22

I would just let him wear the harness for extended periods see how he reacts. When it starts to look like its becoming natural to him attach the leash. Let him get use to that.

Then you can move up to hanging out by the doorway with the door open so he can kind of look outside and go out as his comfort level permits.

He's only 4 months old you have a lifetime ahead of you =)

  • Hi! Great video! Nice to see how patient you are with your cute cats! My cat and I just moved to a new house, she used to go outside on a leash in the old house and we went everywhere, even the front yard by the side of the street! Now she won't go outside and is acting scared when I try! What can I do to encourage her to go walking again? She's getting fat! Any advice I'd appreciate! Thanks!

  • @Yatssina

    Baby steps is the key!

How long ago did you move into the new house? Sometimes it takes time and once she establishes it's her new safe haven she will most likely increamently explore the outside world again step by step and get further outside a little at a time.

  • @Juieta111

John Junior was a former stray and he's an indoor cat.

I would recommend teaching your cat because it's not always gaurenteed how safe its going to be in the outside world.

Remember there are cruel people out there that shoot cats for fun =(

    Charlie will be ok =)

  • these little bites are the cat "kisses". Dogs lick you and cats do this little bites thingy. He loves you! Congrats! I am adopting my stray next week. He is a chocolat Brtish short hair and Im so happy! He could be simply a street cat and I'd be equally happy! Take care. Lotsa love to you and Junior and black cat!

  • @anniething07

    Wheres your stray coming from?

Mine is a stray by the Canyon where I work =P

Thank you for bringing in a stray =)

  • I dont know whats wrong whit black cats... there just so... Evil :S

Mine is 8 years old and its been 8 years im trying to take her in my hands whitout her biting or scratching me. She just.. Evil !!

  • @MrMiniliee

    Haha

Mines not Evil but shes definatly standoffish!

She has moments where she can be really sweet though. It's funny she thinks shes 100 pounds because my dog will run up to her and she'll try to stand her ground and be all tough even though my dog is 10X bigger =P

  • @MrMiniliee Mine was like that when he was younger, he's now like 15 and he's like super cuddly. We're moving him from our house in teh country to apartment int he city and he refuses to use the litter box. so We'll have to take him out to poop. So, I gotta leash train him.

  • @shanonfreek

Good luck! I hope it works out. If your succesful please make a video. Show peopel that 15 is not too old to learn new things =)

  • @FBBMyspace My boyfriend has my camera, so I haven't been able to film it, but so far, I have taken him out every day since we brought him. And he hasn't put up that much of a fit to get the harness on. He doesn't like going out so I have to pick him up, I think the stairs scare him. And when we come back in I have to pick him up too. Also, he always wants to just go under a bush and sit, or under cars. But, overall, we have success.

  • @shanonfreek

Awesome! I hope you have a chance to record it sometime! I know a lot of people will appreciate seeing a 15 year old that learned =)

Give him time you never know he may actually learn to like it =)

  • It's exactly what I needed. I'm sooo ganna do this when I get a Cat or Kitten. But the points you made is exactly what I've said too. So thanks :) And btw, AWESOME Cat you have Sir ^^ Very handsome too :)

  • @EnigmaticSilhouette

Thank you. He is my pride and joy. Showing the world that a former stray and a rescue cat can do tricks too =)

  • @FBBMyspace Yeah! :) I aplaud you for your acomplishments with your awesome kitty ^^ And it's that point you made that is one of the reasons I want a Cat someday. I know nothing of Cat breeds though I admit lol. I'm really more a Dog person...So I'm still learning about Cats lol. But I do want to get one and show people Cats CAN learn tricks and some of the things Dogs learn...Something interesting too, is I find I get along best with White Cats, VS any other Cat o.O lol.

  • @EnigmaticSilhouette

I'm actually a dog person myself.

I took these cats home because i felt sorry for them. So what does a dog person do to a cat? Teach it to walk on a leash of course and make it as close to a dog as possible! =P

  • @FBBMyspace Ah yeah.

LMAO!! I know what you mean :P

  • Thats awesome! FINALLY a GOOD video that really shows you how to train a Cat RIGHT! Thank you sooo much...Maybe people will finally stop attacking me with the words as fact that Cats CANNOT EVER be trained what-so-ever -_- Hows this for a Contridiction "Cats can't learn, their not a Dog" "then how'd it 'learn' to use a Litter Box? o.O" "Cause I taught it to! ^^" -_- lol. People think because I currently don't have a Cat, I know nothing...Bugs the crap out of me -_- So thanks again for this video

  • @EnigmaticSilhouette

    Never say Never!

The proof is right here for all the nay sayers! If you look at my older videos you'll see that this guy was once a stray cat. Look at him now =)

Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching =)

  • I have a black cat aswell ;DD.
