I did some research on this, and it turns out that 4 police officers were killed that day. As a cameraman, this guy should have showed a little more respect and stayed back. People who are saying these cops are "thugs" shouldn't talk without knowing the full story. Obviously tentions are running high as 4 of their fellow officers were killed and then they get a camera pointed in their face.
I think only part of the story is being told here, before the beginning of this video, is there maybe the chance that the videographer was asked politely to leave? If a family member of mine was shot and the media was there and I asked them to leave only to have them sneak back around, I might not be so polite the second time around, but I'm only human.
So many things I see Police do could be solved by talking. Did they start off by Saying "sir, Im going to need you to stay back about here. " Or just "Sir Im going to have to ask you to stand back alright?" Theres no reason for a cop to Charge and scream like that at someone who is Not attacking him or threatening harm. I know emotions can run high, But when you put on a uniform you're part of the law then, you cant run off at the mouth like a drunk at a freaking bar fight.
This videographer has neither compassion for the police officers or common sense in filming possible plain clothes police, undercover police or their families. This isn't journalism happening, their is nothing this film adds to a story about a police shooting. He is either an idiot, someone trying to get images of police for his own illegal or suspect activities or a pathetic journalist. I question his motivations and I completely understand and support the police actions.
I would not have left; in fact, had the police arrested me, you can bet the tv station would have filed a lawsuit, and the money would have come out of police funds. These cops really showed their behinds in this clip, especially the first one who cussed out the cameraman........
This stupid cop and the others in the swarm had no right to act this way; I don't blame the cameraman for filing the lawsuit, and that money should have came out of police department funds. There was no need for this at all, and these officers involved should have been disciplined for their behavior, and they did violate their oath, not to mention the first amendment, too. A good judge would have nailed these cops, and would have gave the police chief a warning to get control of his officers.
Notice the Oakland jerseys? Just like the bloods or the latin kings showing their gang colors at a gathering the cops are just that.... A gang of mindless thugs hired to keep the public in line! They do not serve us, they control us plain and simple :(
Im sorry I don't agree with anyone who faults the cameraman - Just like the Police, he has his job to do. An emotional time like the deaths of fellow officers, is THE TIME FOR POLICE TO BE AT THEIR MOST PROFESSIONAL! If you are a police officer - you KNOW that news cameras are going to show up - you elected to have that job, DEAL WITH IT! BTW - The Cameraman was awarded 175,000 dollars in a settlement with Oakland. What does THAT tell you?
Damn, that first creep looked like bananas went extinct. Then, the next batch looked like incest became illegal. Yup, I feel a lot safer knowing these gangsters can control themselves in times of distress. How the hell did they pass the psychological exams?
some of you people make me sick. To hate all police as a group, give me a break. Next time someone breaks into your house and steals all your shit you better handle it yourself instead of asking for the police's help. For the record I was kinda on the cameraman's side until I saw "Police line, do not cross." Nobody said shit to the cameraman once he was where he was supposed to be. His ass can film from a distance.
FUCK THE 4 COPS THAT DIED. THEY DESERVED IT AND THOSE PIGS DAMN WELL KNOW IT. YOU WILL ALL DIE SOON ENOUGH, IN DUE TIME, YOUR EXPIRATION WILL COME, PIGS.
The funny part about cops? Even though they are knowningly pushing a cameraman away, they are doing it while the camera is on, and rolling. Has a cop never used a camera in their entire lives? CAMERA'S RECORD VIDEO, PIGS, WE CAN SEE ALL YOUR FACES!
So they commandeered an entire hospital and the street with access to it for a slain police officer? It's a tragic situation without doubt, but what about other individuals requiring medical care? Elderly, children. Certainly they played no role in the officers death, should they be made to suffer as well? Are there lives less valuable? They would have had more success sending one individual out to request the cameraman leave then attacking him like an angry mob.
Did you know the gov is working to limit the right you have to take video in public. That you will need written permission of all parties in the video.
What we need to do is write, call, email, show up at any political town hall and ask for laws that allow us to continue to record in public with out permission that includes the cops, mayor, city councilors.
Police suck, having the gorilla first attack him - real professional OPD!! Just because they have a gun they think they are above the law and can push people around, looks like there was a bunch random jackoffs standing around. I'm glad the pig was shot, camerman should have threw some donuts in street to distract them.
hahaha fucking pigs and that house nigga hahaha were ur feelings hurt pigs ?
u dont like it when the people shoot back at u pigs hu ? guess what.. theres plenty of guns in the streets and yall be to noticeble in your piggy wiggy patrols.
maybe we should get down in oakland like the cartels get down in mexico shooting cops with rpgs killing them by the docen. cowards.
IF the cops dont want you do video tape...then dont video tape. Respect their wishes. It's amazing to see all these ignorant people say cops are all thugs and crooks....one day you may need the cops and being the little bitch you are going to call 911 the second you have a chance and hope they come to your rescue.
@Sandbox1108: Why should the police CARE whether their activities in public are videotaped?
Let's put this another way... How about we ALL behave legally, including the police?
"The First Amendment protects the right to gather information about what public officials do on public property, and specifically, a right to record matters of public interest." Smith v. City of Cummings (11th Circuit Court of Appeals, 2000) and similar in other Circuit Courts of Appeals
@DavidForthoffer - If your brother just died would you want a bunch of camera's in your face asking you how you felt about it? How are they behaving illegally? The first amendment is subjective my friend. This countries government is getting too powerful(/corrupt) and the rights people have are dwindling down. The reason this country was great was less government and more freedom.
@Sandbox1108: Although some judicial rulings of the "Freedom of the Press" portion of the First Amendment are subjective, the judicial rulings are VERY OBJECTIVE when it comes to allowing videographers to record wherever the public is allowed.
Do you see your own hypocrisy? You say the government is getting too powerful, and you also support police restricting videographers' rights more than the law allows.
@Sandbox1108: You asked if my brother just died would I want a bunch of camera's in my face asking how I felt about it.
(1) What does that have to do with THIS video? They did not let the videographer even get CLOSE.
(2) If it WERE me, I would not like it. But that does NOT mean I would behave illegally. Cordoning off an area and keeping ALL the public out seems like a good response to me, UNLIKE what the police did here.
@DavidForthoffer Also judging by your profile you are VERY BIASED. So of course you are going to say the cops were in the wrong. I am relatively neutral.
@Sandbox1108: Judging by your statements, you are VERY BIASED. People on YouTube who have followed my comments know me as pro-law. Sometimes that means I support government officials' actions (e.g., "4th Amendment Ignored By Indiana Sheriff") and sometimes I criticize government officials' actions (e.g., "Federal Reserve COPS threatned to DETAIN us for filming and not showing ID").
@Sandbox1108: So how DID you conclude I am very biased?
If you did it just by looking at the titles of videos I have watched or Favorited, you are obviously not diligent. You need to understand my attitude toward government officials in a video before claiming bias; simply noting that I watched videos that you think are biased shows your lack of diligence.
This Camerman filed a lawsuit in Federal Court. Good for him. Notice how the police become CRAZED, INSANE and FEVERISH over "slain" officers". Boo-Hoo... you shouldn't be a cop if you can't handle this. The cops behave like a pack of Rabid Dogs, biting and snipping at anything that isn't part of their group. Police have NO RIGHT to block off the street and put up a police tape just because cops are injured in a hospital. These cops are lunatics. IF WE DO NOT TAKE ACTION this will be the norm.
I just think its funny that the video is edited at the beginning where the plain clothes cop tells him to Get the F#ck out of here. Guess he had to make it convincing. And to say that these guys deserved to dies is pretty messed up. No one deserves to die. I hope you guys are familiar with the guy who killed them. Wanted for raping two young girls. Yea thats what I want in my society
So I suppose that the next time the cops murder someone, it will be all kosher for the family and friends of the slain to mob the cops and push them away?
"This is a crime scene" Stupid cop. The crime scene is the coffee shop where the four other cops were shot, NOT the hospital.
wow..did you see how they swarmed the cameraman like an angry mob. i know these situations can be touchy when a fellow officer/friend is shot, but the police are just as guilty when it comes to exploitation
@fritsievandewereld - he was filming the arrival of a wounded police officer to a hospital on the day four officers were killed last year: link: sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/crime/detail?entry_id=64842&tsp=1#ixzz0pk7wj7fB

The reporters are completely in the wrong.
They have zero moral ascendency in this.
Absolutely none.
If someone in your family had their head shot off would you tolerate a film crew invading your space.
Deep grief causes emotional response,
Be tolerant of people who are losing a loved one.
The reporters in this video have no heart or compassion..
They are trying to get a story so they can look good at work.
They should consider this a shameful and low point of their life.
