  • Hello all I am looking to switch from Gillette fusion(multiply blade) razors to a saftey razor. I have sensitive skin and I get razor burn/ingrown hairs easily. Will I notice much difference if I make the change? My beard also grows back fast and thick so I would like to at least once a week.

  • derby blades are useless, they're way to dull to shave with

  • I have the 1947 Gillette Milord with original box got it from a friend in Uruguay, the thing works amazingly its the only things i use. People think I am crazy considering that I am only 19 and no one uses them anymore.

  • i bought an edwin jagger with derby blades to shave with a single bladexrzorcforvthe first time, I used barbassol shaving cream and hot water. Perfect shave with no previous practice, no cuts and I even shaved against the hair and inside my nostrils.

  • R.I.P headphone users...

  • have you used a gillette I-1 before? i ordered one a couple days ago and i am just wondering what kind of quality to expect.

  • @tubsrnhc Sorry I have never used an I-1.

  • @mantic59 I need help, please. My girlfriend wants me to shave my pubic hair area, but I am not comfortable in doing so because I'm afraid of cutting myself. What should I do? .... And how do I shave my pubic hair area?

  • Always informative. I just got my first safety razor today(It looks like the Gillette retro one mentioned in this video) from the House of Knives chain that has started carrying wet shaving supplies.

  • Dear Sir, I can see u have spent a lot of time for creating editing these videos. Yes, they are very useful. be well, with metta kindness.

    From Sri lanka.london

  • Thanks for the upload! Fantastic content, keep 'em coming!

  • nice edit, very informative , good job buddy!

  • Sure most Traditional Shavers do prefer to use old fashioned Safety razors but those kind of razors are really not what Teenagers want for shaving their faces with. I'm 18 years old and I'm better off using a modern cartridge razor for now. Before I had a single bladed safety razor I thought it would be nice to shave the old fashioned way but because I'm a young guy and I still have pimples on my face a modern cartridge razor is safer and easier.

  • @zmanifest yea but at the same time the traditional shaving face prep techniques basically nuke acne. i had some fairly frequent acne and once i started on the brush my girlfriend and I immediatley noticed it went way down. so at the very least get started with the brush and lather

  • @Ozzman1369 OK thanks, your reply was very helpful I will give the brush and lather a try.

  • @zmanifest anytime :)

  • i used the art of shaving products but i have never tried this kind of razor.... i'm black and get bumps from time to time... i also tried that magic shave stuff... you dont get a clean close shave with that stuff either thanks for the video clip

  • i want a single blade razor

  • Hey mantic, just did my first de shave. not the best, had decent amount of nicks. One thing that your video doesn't show is doing the "goatee" area. I have trouble with that area due to contour hell that it has. Could you do a short video on how to do that area?

  • Straight razors are really the only way to go for closeness. But be careful when learning! Once you become competent with them you'll never usa anything else.

  • i can't believe people don't know how to shave... oh dear

  • @sambuka1989 Are you referring to shaving in general? Because this is about those old razors from the forties. Very few people have those these days.

  • IF you want really nice single blades you can go to specialized store like "The Art of Shaving" If you're in the LA area, there's one located in the century city mall.

I bought my shaving set, my blade, my fine brush, pre shave, after shave etc for around $475. Most people won't spend that much, but I recently got a bonus and wanted to spend it on something nice :)

  • Hey I'm looking to buy a safety razor that is good quality for as little money possible. Any suggestions

  • Hello Mantic,

The 8$ made in Chine razor that i was shaving with has a littile rust on him. I got dissapointed and ordred the famous Merkur HD 34C

How can I know if this razor won't get rusted?

How you suggest to take care of the razor in order to keep it years?

  • Mantic, dear old boy, you're a national treasure.

  • bo bo booobie traps

  • Excellent demonstration, thank you. Here is another UK based website for your your self and viewers, they deliver to EU and to the States. Cheers!

  • I agree w/ proper skin hydration and shaving in opposite directions. It works for me.

  • I have a merkur razor and merkur blades and I am veryyyyy happy with it!

  • I have just started shaving with a safety razor within the past month and it's a mystery to why my dad doesn't use one or anyone I know. But I freaking love mine!!! I have a Parker 92r and Gillette super speed razor ( which I just got). But it's way better and more classy. I love it! Thanks for all you tips Mantic.

  • best part of DE shaving is that the blade doesn't clog up when shaving a 3 day beard, the DE razor just sings through the whiskers with no tugging or clogging, outstanding.

Cartridge or multi blade systems clog up on a one day old beard let alone a three day beard, very annoying, I would use a tooth pick to unclog the cartridge blades, but, thank heavens good old DE blades and razors are still around, the best shaving system around.

  • Hey Mantic, just got a red tip the other day. Can't make out letter on the date code. Either a B or R. Do those even have a R letter code?

  • I am currently living at my great-grandparents house, and while rummaging around a little I found 2 safety razors that her father owned. I know nothing about safety razors, or how to tell their worth. That is, if they have any. I was wondering if you could help me with this.

  • do i have to order all these online, and if not what stores could i get them out?

  • @JamalJennings the best choices are online. Some specialty stores, such as cutlery stores or militarania businesses, may have limited inventory.

  • @JamalJennings hey mann i wanted to get this for years without going online then i whet to sally's beauty supply it's alway there. i dident even know i thout you had to buy online

  • Hey grandpa, ever heard of mach 3? That's how people of the 21th century shave.

  • @regenjo mach 3 is shit multi blade bullshit..yeah they marketing gets all you dumb young people.. also single blade never clogs. Your stupid father never taught you how to shave.

  • @regenjo Actually, Mach 3 is how people of the 20th century shave. Gillette Fusion is how people of the 21th century shave. So you are already out of date and qualify as a "grandpa" unless you upgrade to the Fusion with the 5 blades. Soon I'm sure there will be 6 blades, then 7 blades, and so on and so on. Gillette and Schick treat all of us like a bunch of fools who go along with whatever they tell us and whatever they put on the market.

  • @Chuck1974 There are six blades now. :) I saw them at CVS while looking for SE blades.

  • Trac II (2 blades), then Mach 3 (3 blades), then Schick Quattro (4 blades), then Gillette Fusion (5 blades) ... where will the madness end! I read that it costs Gillette pennies to produce a razor blade yet their profit is over 1000 percent! Have you seen the price for a pack of Fusion blades? Absolutely crazy. A simple safety razor and safety razor blades provides a close, comfortable shave at a fraction of the cost of the ridiculous shaving systems that are on the market today.

  • I usually use the cheap disposables, but after this weekend and my face being totally destroyed I am definitely getting a DE set in the near future.

  • I should have definitely gotten a sample pack of blades instead of being cheap. I got 100 derby blades and a razor for like 20 bucks. Probably should have spent a little more and got a better razor and sample pack o blades and some shave soaps etc. I get nicks almost every shave, but it is a smooth shave.

  • Single edge shaving is much more enjoyable. at around .10 per blade I'm sold on it.

  • So I am doing the first pass down and the second pass up as you recommend. I do have a question though.

When shaving the neck area, are the passes in the opposite direction? So the first pass would be up and the second would be down? This is typically how I did it with a pivot head disposable, but I am not sure if this is correct.

  • @zandalis generally speaking yes they are in the opposite drection but if you get irritation you should go ahead and change direction to suit your hair growth. The straight up & straight down passes are to give you help with learning and maintaining correct razor angle.

  • @zandalis Better to remember it this way; First pass ALWAYS WITH THE GRAIN.

Second pass depends more on how heavy your beard is. I fx have almost no hair on my face, so I go straight to against the grain on my second pass, where someone with a very heavy beard should do just this one more pass with the grain before going for that "baby-smooth" feel... ;D Bottom line though, is that you ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS do at least the first pass WITH THE GRAIN.

  • ive been using those desposible cheap plastc rasors from BIC in which only has one single blade and thay are very safe and easy to use. i havent experience any rasor bumps or burn. compared to those expensive rasors like gillet.

  • Schick hydro is the best

  • Uh-oh! I haven't been reading the wet-shaver's discussion boards! Better get on that.

  • Wow, a ten bladed cartridge whahaha! I bought a Merkur DE yesterday, can't wait to try it out, i have a terrible hangover unfortunately

  • 1st shave complete. Probably rushed it. Got a little nick but didn't feel it (until I used the styptic pencil). The worst part was I dropped my beloved shaving bowl into the sink and chipped it, feel pretty bad about that. Other than everything worked out pretty well. Feels as smooth as the plastic, pivot-head razor I was using for the past 3 weeks.

  • When did you start shaving mantic?

  • Do you find a trusted wife gettop5.info

  • Mantic, have you used the merkur model 180 by any chance? What would you recomend as a good DE razor for someone on a limited budget?

  • Try Russian women gettop5.info

  • Hi mantic,

I'm wondering if all those soaps and brushes are really a necessity? With my Gillette Superspeed, I always shave under the shower, without any soaps or creams and I always get that baby but finish without any nicks. However, when I try to shave with shaving cream I get my face torn up pretty badly. Is there a difference here, am I doing something wrong?

I do admit it's a can foam, but I've ordered some Arko and badger brush to experiment with that.

  • Hi mantic, how do I store a razor so not to dull it, but also allow it to air dry? Is buying a stand the only option? It seems leaving it on the bathroom counter top could dull it and could be unsafe to other bathroom users or damage the razor itself.

  • Wondering your take on olive oil for pre shave?

  • Hello Mantic! I recently bought a safety razor after watching practically all of your videos. I decided to go for an Edwin Jagger Double Edge Safety Razor and now I'm curious about what you have to say about it, if you've tried it of course. Thank you for inspirating and sharing!

    Best regards from Sweden!

  • @JGiesecke Yes, I have one and although it is not my favorite razor (for strictly personal preference reasons) they are well-built and have an excellent reputation.

  • @mantic59 why not just buy the gilette double blade. its like $22 for 50 disposable razors.

  • @JGiesecke After much advance research on Badger & Blade and elsewhere, I got my first DE rig: a knurled-grip Muhle R89 (new style R89s have the same head as the Jaggers) with Astra Platinum blades from Russia. Couldn't be happier! Pleasantly surprised at the gentle yet effective Muhle/Jagger head and smooth, long-lasting Astras. YMMV as usual.

  • I purchased a merkur 23C today and shaved with a DE for the first time!!!!!! I liked it Your videos were very helpful.....

  • hey, mantic59- I have 2 questions for ya.

    1) how do you get rid of razor burn/irritation? I've tryed not shaving for 2 weeks while alternating aloe vera gel and nivia aftershave balm. and it hasn't gone away. actually I've always had razor burn since i first started shaving...

    2) I'm starting to run low on money so I'm trying not to buy gillette fusion anymore...know of any cheap razors? maybe disposable razors that are good?

  • @TheMightyant19 i've never used the Wilki DE, I'll have to get one to try. :)

  • @mantic59 I started with one, if he means the Classic that we get in the UK. It's weighted a lot towards the handle, so you do need to apply a little pressure, which then (as I found) needs to be unlearned when you get a proper razor.

  • It is quite interesting that you are presenting the guillotine cut as an advanced shaving technique. I mean, this is supposed to be the correct method and what is shown on this video is simply wrong. The direction of the blade is moved should not be perpendicular to the edge.

  • ok, i feel like the biggest idiot in the world. I just got all my new gear, psoraso cream, badger brush, merkur 180, and derby blades, and before i took my first shave i put in a new blade and put on the bottom part, UPSIDE DOWN, so i went over my face like 15 times and was wondering why i wasnt getting any hair!!! Then i looked and was like oh... my... gosh. Thank you mantic!

  • I started shaving before the twin blade was invented. Over the years, I have used about everything.Strait razor, DE, injectors, winders, electrics, 2 blade, 3 blade, 4 blade. After all, I went back to the double edge. Injectors and winders are just as good but no longer made.

  • I was wondering if you've ever used a rolls razor, I have one but I wanted to know if a DE razor would be better or easier to use.

  • @mvbennett9 sorry I have never tried a Rolls razor.

  • Ninja's assassin sharp, lol. I will heed the warning

  • @mantic59: What is your opinion on the Gillette 7'Oclock Russian blades? I just ordered a vintage gillette razor from ebay and I am trying to select my first set of blades to get me started on my trial run with this old school way of shaving.

  • true shaving like this is much better and i am not old ass guy

  • Hey just wanted to express some thanks for your time and the amount of knowledge you have shared on these videos. I am new to this and enjoying it very much. Thanks again, truly its appreciated. I am sure you can take credit for ushering in many new wet shavers, you inspired me to do so and im loving it.

  • thanks for the videos mantic. tried my first shave with a DE today. it was good, but i still ended up with that razor burn at the end. what am i doing wrong?

  • @BurnMyEyes0107 probably either too much pressure on the razor or you held it at the wrong angle. It just takes some practice.

  • Great Tutorial. Thanks for the sharing of your knowledge:) My question is this; is/are Concord DE and Lord a good brand to purchase? Again thanks for the lessons.

  • @edwardgracy I've never used a Concord so I can't say. Older Lord razors were not very good, I understand the newer ones are better.

  • @edwardgracy i don't have any experience w/concord razors, sorry. The Lord razor I bought a few years ago was not very good but I understand they have improved since then.

  • I don't think I've ever heard a better example of someone using air quotes via audio than you describing a marketing genius's shaving "system" at 1:08.

  • Great Vid.A real education.Always had a feeling about "Multi-blades" and all the hype?,but didn't really know which other avenue to take, until now !...Cheers!..all the best from Wales (UK)

  • I have the vintage Gillete adjustable. I like it much better than the disposable or muti blades of today.

  • As time progresses, it's always fun to rewatch your videos with more knowledge. Thanks a load mantic!

  • Did you have to get permission from Andre Agassi to use his likeness in your facial map image?

  • 1:32 "Unlike the uniformed, fast food like mediocrity of the mass market multi blade razors."

  • Good God. this was both informative and funny as hell. thanks

  • where can i get the razor blades from i live in sheffield but no shops sell them

  • @weedyak google 'the gentlemans shop' or 'the executive shaving company'

  • @mantic59

oh so you know robert johnston's videos too, huh? i still think you have the best as you advocate against the grain shaving only after with the grain.

  • What a great video! I just invested in a great single blade setup with some great lathers and aftershaves. My first couple of shaves were a little rough. I hope your tips help!

  • i never thought i would be bored enough to look up a video on how to shave.

  • I never even knew these razors existed. I've been shaving for only 3 years, and I just use disposable double blades. It works fine for me. I shave down completly than I shave up for the little tiny hairs and I never get irritation or in-gown hairs. The only thing is if I shave up every time I shave I always get cuts. So lately I just shave down without the up stroke.

  • @Oilasor925 The safety razor is what I started shaving with and still do. Tried the multi blade, didn't like them. Of course, I'm a half century old too.

  • Hi Mantic! I want to start shaving with a DE razor , but Idon"t know what razor to start with, I was thinking to choose from a Merkur 34C or a Merkur 38 c. I don't know who is better than the other. And what dou you recommend ? I want your advice for this one , because i know that you have better knowledge in the business. Thank you very much !

  • @cristinelbuff the 34C and the 38C are almost identical save for the texture design of the handle. They shave the same.

  • With the (TWO!!!) safety razors I inherited, I got a box of Gillette Thin Blade razor blades to go along with them. The packaging looks like it might be from the 70s or 80s, and the actual box of blades was unopened until I got to it. The blades themselves are just like other blades I have seen, but are thin and flexible. I opened one up and they appear in mint condition and are still sharp. Can you advise about these particular blades, that is, if they are any good?

  • @arborealguy sorry I can really advise you on those blades but as a general rule I don't use "vintage" blades.

  • i am a 15 year old who just started wet shaving. i have a Weishi twist-to-open razor with Dorco blades. is this razor a good one?

  • @rockergod789 I think the Weishi is a decent razor for the price. Be sure to try other brands of blades; the Dorco blades are not for everyone.

  • @mantic59 you said something about feather blades being really really sharp. well, i ordered some feather blades off of amazon and i'm having absolutely no problems with them, even though i'm still a beginner.

  • @mantic59 and i also ordered that cheapo Lord razor for use as a travel razor, and it did a surprisingly good job. the 3 piece design is no-nonsense, the blade is held firmly, and it's not too flashy. don't put down a razor just because it's cheap.

  • @rockergod789 maybe they've improved the razor. My Lord razor is very cheap and flimsy and doesn't hold a blade well.

  • I'd just like to point out that, with a gentler razor (or adjustable), feather blades are quite safe, even for inexperienced shavers.

I started using feather blades on my 5th shave, been using them ever since. This was after 7 years of electrics and few weeks of trying out/learning to hate the standard mass-produced manual shaving systems.

Not only is the shave closer, for me the extreme sharpness was a necessity. My beard isn't that thick, but it puts steel wool to shame. :P

  • Hey Mantic,

Thanks for the great videos. What blade would you recommend for a beginner? I've been shaving with a double-edge razor for about a month now, using Feather blades, and I tend to get a lot of redness and a few cuts every time I shave. I'm pretty sure my pre-shave is adequate. Perhaps I'm applying too much pressure? or perhaps the Feather blades are too sharp for a beginner? Thanks again.

  • @PianistSk8er - Whenever it comes to blades, I always recommend trying a variety of blade brands. Then perhaps re-visit the Feather blades later.

  • Hey Mantic, is that a Classic Shaving's Vintage Butterfly TTO razor? Do you recommend that kind of razor for a newbie like me?

    Thank you

  • In this day and age, I, among others i assume were never taught to shave properly by our Fathers...

I guess most people use the commercial crap so much they wouldn't know where to start with this style of shaving anyways.

At least we have Mantic to rectify the errors of our ways!

Just got my first "decent" safety, a Muhle R89 3 piece, along with a nice Badger Brush and some "Taylor of Old Bond St" Rose scented cream. Looking forward to trying it out!

  • im 30 years old and just switched to a safety razor, even an inexpensive one like the lord razor which i bought has gave me the best shave I have ever had since i started shaving at 18. NEVER going back to the triple, quadruple, quatro, five 10 garbage they sell, and you save a lot of money with the DE blades.

  • lol i stole my brothers shaver and shaved a little. Cleaned it first (:

  • lmao

  • I purchased a DE razor off Amazon and used it for the first time yesterday. Best shave ever! I was a little paranoid simply because it felt different, but once you get it down, it's easy. I didn't have any nicks or razor burn and I even shaved against the grain. I"ll never go back to the multiblade cartridge. Another positive thing is the amount of cash you'll save on blades.

  • people say with grain, against, long strokes, short, etc. the only thing i do differently with a de is not push. a lot easier to cut yourself with these bad boys, but a way better shave.

  • i just ordered Parker 89R Super Heavy Weight Double Edge Safety Razor

can you tell me if this one is good for beginners.

  • ekoboss- the parker razor should be ok for you

  • I got one of those gillette vintage razors at my local flea market for $8, didnt know what brand it was until I saw this video, cant wait until my brush, soap, and mug kit comes in so i can get a pack of razors and aftershave and jump into this new world of shaving!

  • Will any of these techniques work on women's legs?

  • @Hadra568

I've read maybe 2 or 3 reviews by women. They claimed they loved them. I believe one was recommending 'The Lady Gillette' safty razor. I also recall one said she often used her husbands DE razor and felt it was a better shave.

  • Hadra568 - yes the concepts should work on just about any spot to be shaved.

  • I never knew exactly why single blade razors felt better. My dad just gave me one for christmas a few years ago and it was far better (and way cheaper to maintain) than any modern high-tech blades.

    Thanks for the video!

  • I started of with a rotary and it was crap cus it just left me with stubble then I bought a gillete fusion and that just gave me razor burn and my hair is a lot harder to deal with cus it's afro.and finally I got a single bladed razor and I lived happily ever after ......THE END : )

  • @afroninjaman7 where did you get yours from? i want to purchace one.

  • @utubebighead I got wilkinson classic from my local chemist. But the best place would be the internet and ebay

  • Best shave in the world. I use either a two way or "Four Way Shave" (google it) and my razor is a 1980 Schick Injector because it's the closest thing to a straight razor shave you can get from a safety razor. Cheaper, better shave and better for the environment (not throwing plastic in the land fill every week). The cartidge razors are the biggest rip off and over priced bunch of crap ever. 7 Schick injector blades last me about 2-3 weeks per blade and I have a med/heavy beard. Buy on ebay.

  • @metalliholic86 Myself and many others went with the 38c and I absolute love it. You can't go wrong with it.

  • You, sir, are a shaving expert. I have watched many of your videos several times. I got myself a Boar Bristle brush ($7.99) from a local store, and a bar of Williams Mug Shaving Soap. Right now I'm using Bic Sensitive Single blade disposables, but I am looking on Ebay for a Gillette Safety Razor. Thanks! I used to be a horrible shaver and would leave razor burn on my face constantly. Those days are now behind me.

  • if you hit up some antique shops you can find safety razors already ready to go. I picked up 2 gillette razors (1962 adjustable RAC 065 and the fatboy) for no more than 17 bucks. also grabbed a 85 year old Imperial straight razor up (just needs honing). I used pearsons at first as i was scared out of my mind, but now use mint vintage Rotbart Extra Dunn blades. Blades can be found at drug stores in the US and even wal marts (pearsons and sometimes you can find gillette silver series)

  • Hmm, how do I know they are not fakes?

How do YOU know they are not fakes?

  • If you flip the safety razor head down you'll see serials, such as h-2 or g-2 and you can contact many collectors who would be happy to help you determine the age and model based on advertising photos, serials, et cetera. my straight razor was authenticated as the company went out of business many years ago plus the type of steel, design and handle construction. the key is being smarter than the person selling you the goods. hope that helps.

  • Thanks for the help though I still have a question.

I was planning to go to a antique market.

Therefore i'm likely (if I buy it) not be able to return it to the seller so it's best to not make mistakes in the first place.

So other than looking for h-2 or g-2 is there anything else that I should find easily?

Since if I find a really old merkeur or gillete, then I would gladly buy it but surely there are many counterfeit ones since they are so famous.

  • I've posted many questions on many of your videos, but one more....I didn't know where to ask this..so i'll do it here.

I constantly have great difficulty taking out of all the hairs from my shaver...I have Gillette fusion

  • Running hot water works well

  • Oh, it doesn't work.

  • What type of blade do you use?

  • fdfadsf

  • What?

  • I wasn't able to reply for some reason so I left the comment on your front page.

  • There is no comment on my page.

  • I have a Gillette Mach 3 and I have the same problem. It's because it's a multiple blade razor which traps the hairs between the blades, thus making it harder to clean.

I've asked for a proper single bladed razor, soap, blades and brush for Christmas. I noticed you're from the UK too so feel free to msg me and I'll show you what I'll be getting to replace the crappy Gillette razors that I've been using.

  • I'm actually in Canada for the moment. There isn't a better place to be during the winter. And I won't be in the UK for a long time from now. Not even in a decade.

  • I envy you so much!

I've been wanting to move to Canada (Vancouver or Calgary) for years now. I'm hoping to move out there sometime within the next decade.

Anyway, take a look at Merkur razors, they are meant to be very good. I'm hopefully getting the Merkur 38C with Proraso shaving cream and a badger shaving brush.

It works out at about £50 delivered which is probably what I'm spending a year on Gillette blades anyway! The razors for the Merkur are very cheap, about £4 for 30.

  • But what if I were going to go to an antique shop, how would I know that the razor is real and not a fake?

They probably are great a long with the gillette one's (the saftey razors)

Mantic spoke about them but razor shops are VERY hard to find and antique one's become the only option.

There are shops though however I only found one and it had razors that were extremely expensive and they only had the explensive merkeur razor (for $200) The very bulky one.

  • Could you buy one online?

  • I'd prefer not to. Too much hassle. Especially not a good idea when buying my first one since I don't know what I prefer yet and having to buy and return constantly isn't a good idea (onlin) either and it will surely get me into trouble.

Well, not really but it's possible that they won't come back but it just would cost too much in shipping.

In other words, I'd prefer not to due to the money that could be lost.

Like in not being able to return a shaver.

  • That's a problem I dont run into anymore. hot water works pretty well along with vigorous shaking against the sink, but using a safety razor works better :P

  • hey mantic59 at 7:02 he's shaving AGAINST the the direction of the hair..doesn't that cause more irritation as well as in grown hairs?

  • finnsia- with proper beard reduction techniques most people can eventually shave against the grain.

  • Damn, That Looks So Relaxing!

I felt really good watching this video (>_^)

Good Work Man, Keep It Up !!!

  • @mantic59 i have a question. What if you are already used to shaving against the grain with a mach 3 or quatro, and have been doing this for at least 5 years.i also do my head the same against grain to be super close .when i make the switch to wet shaving will i encounter any problems or should i be ok. i would say my neck hair is coarse and i have fair skin. that being the reason i already go against the grain. great videos!!

  • @mantic59 i meant to also ask would it be ok to keep shaving against the grain when i make the switch?Thank you.

  • Hey mantic, I'm a fan of your shaving videos, they're very helpful. However, there's something I'd like to know that isn't in your videos. How do you know if a razor is agressive or not? I know blades are as important as the razor, and fortunately I've found the right ones. But I'm still not sure about the razor. I use a merkur open tooth comb razor. I have no idea where it stands in the agressivity spectrum. Hope you can help me out. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • veguetabuddy- Its a difficult question to answer because the razor and the blade interact. The Merkur open comb is generally regarding as more aggressive than other razors. If you're getting a good shave without a lot of cuts or irritation you're fine.

  • ouch... I just tried this for the first time and it isn't easy. My neck is bleeding and I have razor burn but I will keep on trying.

  • Heropsychodream- yes, you're learning a new skill. Hang in there and remember to pay attention to the angle of the razor and not to use any pressure.

  • Awesome videos.

Made me go out and get a badger brush and a Merkur HD. Regrettably, the first two shaves have left my skin feeling like I used a blowtorch with Proraso and Art of Shaving creams respectively.

I'm thinking that I used too much pressure on the blade, as I've never had probelms w/ Fusion, even against the grain.

  • I like this

  • you cannot beat the shave quality of a single blade double edged razor (the old type of razor) These multiblade dispoable razors are a complete waste of money and thet dont shave as closely as a nold fashioned (double edged razor) try it for your self honest....

They are hard to find but if you are in the UK then boots sell them. its sooo close and you get a nice feeling too

  • it was matic59 that got me into DE shaving in 2007. Although I have a very rough beard the DE razors DO give me a better shave then anything ive tried before.

  • My dad gave me my grandfathers old one I can't wait to use it

  • dude, that is sweet. i just used my grandfather Soviet model, its very old. but its amazing. Its the best shave ive ever had. AND best part it didnt tug at my hairs and no irritation.

  • Yeah I had to work yesterday and today and my days are 12 hour shifts plus I workout so no time...can't wait until tomorrow when I'm off work to shave with mine. It's a vintage Gillette adjustable from like the 60's
