  • SUPER! Brava! Merci AV

  • Großartig!!

  • Why is this transposed down a step?

  • Восхитительно!

  • De la scie musicale parfois,du Fleming souvent, mais pas du Rachmaninoff.

  • She can also sing in Elvish, in Lord of the Rings, the final installment, it is Renee Fleming's voice we hear in a pivotal climatic scene toward the end.

  • I'm almost glad I don't understand Russian (or French or German, etc.) and that I know only a fraction about classical music and the voice...because it leaves me free to enjoy this piece (and nearly everything else I've ever heard Renee sing) for what it really is: a well-trained, professional musical interpretation full of grace and light, infused with beauty and passion. You armchair critics are missing the whole point. Just LISTEN and ENJOY the music for once. Sheesh.

  • stunning! Brava indeed!

  • 3:45... is a moment that will change lives!

  • Beautifull and so expresive!!! I also love this song!!!!

  • nice... but no one can sing it the way Anna Netrebko does... sorry

  • @0612remo I'm sorry for you.

  • OMG.

  • Good diction, nice dress, few of the portamentos you hear in other repertoire. I personally don't like her hair. It must have been raining or perhaps she went to a local hairstylist or tried a new shampoo.

  • I'm sorry, I prefer Netania Davrath by far!...Her russian sounds English, we don't understand one single word and her voice is good for Strauss...Not good for this at all.. The inflection is not good either.

    Martin

  • She does have quite an accent. The only reason I got it is I'm familiar with the text.

  • I'm confused. I've never heard this song - but the melody is one of the songs from KISMET which I thought was all music of Borodin. Does he get credit for this melody? Everything I read only mentions Borodin.

  • @PecsMstr you are wrong so read more!!

  • Nice legato.

  • prekrasno, bravo!!!

  • to tears ,,,again.

  • Браво, Рене!

Наверное, и сам Рахманинов был бы доволен...

  • Its wonderful. Thanks for posting.

  • She really seems Kiri. Such a voice power, timbre and expression with no spinto!!

    Brava!!

  • I love this Rachmaninov song and Renée makes it even more lovable!!! We feel that she impersonates a marcellous Russian soul... Brava!!!

  • Beautiful song, gorgeous singing. And one heck of a ring on her finger! =D

  • is this a different key from the Night Songs recording?

  • She understand the bittersweet "sehnsücht"...

    Verry beautiful!

  • Brava ! this video is amazing.I Love this russian song.

  • Amazing voice,anyway...

  • Such feeling.. Just superb singing!!!

  • That was lovely-never heard that one before. Any more information about this piece?

  • In English it means "Oh never sing to me again". It's a poem by Pushkin.

  • is this the original key? It's usually sing higher isn't it?

Good for Renee for singing Russian in front of Russians! She is just stunning as usual.

  • She has a good Russian diction, by the way.

  • I agree. Her Russian is amazing. Bravo!

  • I agree. Her Russian is amazing. Bravo!

  • NO, it certainly is not the original key (A-minor) but a whole tone lower - strike 1 against her!!

Ball 1: very good diction - I can't fault her there.

Strike 2: poor arrangement of original piano accompaniment (though better than the one used for Ñetrjébko).

Strike 3: too histrionic a performance, too much portamento - it's a song (lied), NOT an operatic aria. [For more sincerity and purity, better any of these 3: Khvorostóvskiy, Gedda, Vishñévskaja.]

    3 stars out of 5.

  • [While we're at it, the excessive use of 'portamenti' and other such effects are one reason that opera (especially Italian!) can be and is so frequently disliked by people.]

The 3 preferred artists mentioned in my earlier posting don't miss out of any of the expression even while having less "spice"...

  • @LJBSasha ...well this is the original tone..i have the score and it say´s so. A minor the original key... really, believe me.

  • @AminaBellini: yes, the original key of this song is A-minor, but Ms. Fleming sings it a tone lower in G-minor - yours truly happens to be blessed/cursed with absolute pitch (it can truly be a two-edged sword!) and so I recognise what's happening!

Sorry that here you're wrong - I would have preferred to be the one doing the apologising; however, then I'd be lying...

  • @LJBSasha ...yes you are right on this...I talked about the original key (a minor), I thought you said the original key were higher than that..My mistake..sorry...I give you the reason here...Rene´s version is lower! regards from Argentina!!!

  • @AminaBellini: Apparently you were confused by the wording of my earlier message, which itself was a reply to somebody else (Lizzyjean5) who had asked if Ms. Fleming was singing this lied in the original key. She (Lizzyjean5) had noticed that it's sung usually higher than what was the case in this videoclip; and yours truly simply confirmed as much: this rendition is pitched in G-minor, a tone lower than the work's original key of A-minor.

Thank you for your kind words from Canada!!!

  • @LJBSasha ...thank you so much!!!! and please to meet you!!!!!
