I am sure he recognised Pep's skills at passing and used it... but that doesnt mean that Pep can be credited (solely) with that playing style. Cruyff deserves as much honour for letting a defensive player play a part of the team's offense.
I don't extremely like it when he defended his players' performance against Athletic Bilbao. As a huge Barca fan, I know they were far below par in the whole game. But I still understand Guardiola was not only denying Barca were in crisis, he was also grateful for what the players have done in this season and refused to blame them for a bad game or two. I am sure he recognised Pep's skills at passing and used it... but that doesnt mean that Pep can be credited (solely) with that playing style. Cruyff deserves as much honour for letting a defensive player play a part of the team's offense.

I don't extremely like it when he defended his players' performance against Athletic Bilbao. As a huge Barca fan, I know they were far below par in the whole game. But I still understand Guardiola was not only denying Barca were in crisis, he was also grateful for what the players have done in this season and refused to blame them for a bad game or two. Before the game he'd say the game would be tough, after the game, as long as it's not really easy, he would say the opponents are a strong team, or an incredible team with an incredible coach, or somerthing like that. The defeat to Arsenal was not humiliating because he had heaped so much (perhaps too much?) sincere praise on the Gunners and Wenger. His interviews are very good advertisements for Barcelona.
