As a younger man I was into Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath ect, loud and angry music.

I heard this at a party, someone put it on, at 1st I was like "What is this crap"

Then it hit me like a landslide.

Brilliant and Amazing.

It changed me forever, I quit the band I was in and went into Management.

When you understand that You can never but as good as something You at 1st thought was crap, it's time to change jobs.

I Love this entire Album.

@americanbandwidth great story, but i think it's good to be into all sorts of music. paul simon is wonderful, and i love him and his music, but i love led zeppelin equally and enjoy some of black sabbath's stuff. diversity is a wonderful thing.

incidentally, a lot (most?) of zeppelin's stuff is acoustic, not "loud and angry" at all. you should hear it if you haven't: ("going to california", "tangerine" (mostly), "that's the way", "bron-y-aur stomp"... etc. most of zeppelin III.)

I listened to this album over and over in 1987, when I went on a class trip to Spain...my Father had saved to send me, and was as excited as I was for me to go...the trip was at the end of April, he died on April 6th... I pulled my shit together and made the trip...I knew he would have wanted me to go...even as young as I was (14) - I'll never forget it. Thanks Dad.

THE RHYTHM OF THE SAINTS album was also inspired by african music (listen to Zimbabwe, RSA or Nigeria music). If you talk about brazilian influences, what do you mean? more drumming? The melodies, bass lines and guitar riffs are TYPICAL SOUTH AFRICAN. And don't forget all north and south ameraican music has origin in Africa. Miles Davis said "White musicians reconstruct the written notes, black musicians have fun playing music - that's the difference" and I believe it

@68matti whoa, mis(s/ter) defensive. no, i mean he recorded a fair amount of the thing IN brazil, and a number of the lyrics are in brazilian portuguese. it /is/ his "brazilian album", if he ever had one. i won't say there weren't other influences, because artists always gather techniques from their other experiences playing and other music they've listened to, but there's no questioning the brazilian influence in that album.

@get2thechawpa if you liked this, his whole "graceland" album is like this; and then his "rhythm of the saints" album is the same general concept but with brazilian influence rather than african. also he did some sort of musical and/or movie with some sort of puerto rican influence or something? but that flopped and i don't personally like any of the songs i've heard from it, sooo... i wouldn't personally recommend it, but if that one sounds interesting, shop around for opinions, i guess :)

Don't care how many times you hear this tune. It's good every time. Classic, straight down to the intro with Ladysmith Black Mambazo and the catchy guitar hook, and naturally that chorus that's just infectious as all hell. I'm a big fan of Brett Dennen's cover of this as well. He does it great justice.
