did anyone watch the new adventures of zorro that came out in the nineties? cuz i was talking to my friends about badass villains from nineties cartoons and i remembered one from the zorro cartoons that was a huge badass cowboy dude with a metal mask that covered his upper face, and his right arm from the elbow down was some sort of machine that had a sword, a grappling hook, and a gun in it. anyone remember that?
@PSofHisWill ..... It's called affection. It's something you show to people you care about. I guess you've got no friends who love you, if a simple hug is "gay".
I like the fact that his horse is just standing around, wearing a saddle...
I remember this show. It never aired in Denmark, but I had a VHS with a few episodes of it. It was a shitty voice-over version that was part of a larger production that never really made it anywhere in my country, so I think there was just the video. Oh, and in the voice over, the horse is called Tornado like in most of the Zorro stories. We don't really have a word for "tempest".
@SamiTscherning Yes, Select produced some dubs of a series of cartoon shows, including Filmation's Zorro and He-Man - I happen to think Michel Miehe-Renard did all right doing most of the voices with his wife for Zorro, but He-Man had great dubs. I treasured those video tapes - also the Filmation's Flash Gordon ones, but of course it was Knud Thormod's Salut Video who put out most of the cool kids toons in those days. Bravestarr, The Hulk, Filmation's Ghostbusters, etc, etc.
This was produced by Filmation in association with TMS Entertainment (Tokyo Movie Shinsha) of Japan, who, among other overseas projects includes The Wuzzles, Gummi Bears, MIghty Orbots, and Bionic Six, etc. which is why you see the distinctive "Realistic Anime Look" which is in fashion among many animated series during the 80s.
By the time this fool (and Batman too) gets to their secret hideout, gets undressed and dressed in their costumes, get to their ride and get to the city from the desolate places that they live, wouldn't you think that all the bad shit would be over by then? how slow are these damn villains?
This show was absolutely brilliant! Definitely one of my favourites back then, it defines the word "classic" for me. And the music is just amazing all the way through. There should be released a dvd with all episodes! If there is, please tell me!
What a retarded yell after the whistle lol. "Heyyaaaaaiii". And what's with him calling his horse Tempest? It's supposed to be Toronado. And WILL SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHO THE HELL IS THE GUY IN THE PINK TIGHTS?
in 1939 zorro`s horse was called Tempest he was renamed Tornado later in the Disney movie, the guy in the pink tights is Bernardo again in the early shows he is a spy and only pretends to a mute..just in case u were wondering why he can talk xxx
You'll be able to identify it positively as a Filmation mark at 1:03. Even though that's the scrawl of the Z no matter who produces it, the white on red is the Filmation indicator.

This looks all wrong? This was not made in the USA. This looks like that junk from overseas! Filmation made there stuff in the USA and this is not the USA Style at all!
Great cartoon, but one of the greatest songs ever on the background, the music is just out of this world, I know I "hipe" this song too much but it's so damn great! :P Have to find this somewhere without the cartoon voice overs and stuff...
Man I wish these episodes were here. But it's understandable... 1981 plus no DVD release. A dream would be to catch a Spanish dub of this and see if it improved the atmosphere even more.
It is Filmation, it was called The New Adventures of Zorro and was part of their Tarzan/Lone Ranger/Zorro Adventure Hour which ran on CBS between 1980 to 1982.
Damn, I should have done my research first. I am wrong, this was the first and only Filmation show to be sent out to Japan for animation. This explains why the faces are in the Filmation style but the rest of it comes off as overseas.
This is Zorro. Filmation made two cartoons of Zorro, one is this, Zorro, the other is New Adventures of Zorro. New Adventures of Zorro has straight Z instead of curvy, and Zorro's back cloth was pink inside rather than red.
This IS Filmation--when Filmation had enough backing to start farming out animation overseas. The model and character designs were done by Filmation folks but the animation was done by TMS--One of the most prolific animation studios in JAPAN. Thats why for starters, Zorro had better movement without the use of ROTO-SCOPE and actual SHADING unlike MOST of Zorro's FILMATION predecessors!TMS went on to be responsible for some of the BEST LOOKING animated action shows of the 1980's and early 90's!!
@ssosmcin Actually, the style is correct. Look at Zorro, he was animated in the US. Everything else was done in asia, and it was the ONLY time Lou ever sent a show beyond the US borders - they couldn't do a good enough job because of time constraints and other jobs already in production, so he didn't want to do a half-assed job, and sent it off to korea - but Zorro is animated in the US by Filmation, and they obviously designed everything - as is what happens today, too.
this is just like scooby doo

I was expecting to see the usual stiff, manequin-looking Filmation animation, but instead I'm surprised to see some dynamic, anime-esque stuff here.
I'm not surprised that TMS was involved. They produced the best looking TV animation of the 80's, no doubt.

Good thing Filmation got Tokyo Movie Shinsha to do the animation; usually when they do their own in-house animation, it looks really cheap!

It's not nearly as awesome as when the anime Zorro has a HENSHIN sequence, but it's miles above the normal work Filmation put out.

@Dynaman21 It's the only time flimation ever outsourced its work. TMS did this series.

Henry Darrow was the voice of Zorro... he later played Don Diego's father in the 1986 Zorro series with Duncan Regehr.
rnigma 3 years ago
He also played Zorro, himself, in a lame TV comedy "Zorro and Son"
Supposedly it was a comedic sequel to the Disney show.
Darcsyde100 3 years ago
I forgot about that one! And with good reason!
rnigma 3 years ago
You're wrong it was Efrem Zimbalist Jr. who played Don Alejandro in Ducan Regehr's Zorro.

He did, for the first season - then he was replaced by Darrow.
