  • Daddy please I want to be DJ 4:20

  • gotta love 0:38 - lefabrve with the cig hangin outta his mouth.... 'yyyeaah, i'm a badass'

  • I WANT THAT DAMN RING MOD!

  • HE has to make a song with the beat in the beginning ... LIGHTING LIGHTING LIGHTING .... SO DOPE DAMN

    FUCK

  • Anybody have any idea what he's playing at 1:17?

  • i think the best d&b drummer ever

  • He sometimes play jungle but people don't know that dnb was born from jungle...

  • I didn't even know Tim Lefebvre used to play with Jojo Mayer, damn would I have liked to see them play.

  • Can enyone tell me whats the song with Lisa Shaw on 2:03 ??

  • Tim is a killer bass player.

  • Certainly a call to drummers to do two things:

    1) Revive good music, as "old" as jazz and as recent as drum 'n' bass.

    2) As Jojo puts it in his interview with Vic Firth: "reclaim the drummer's role."

  • 2:41 is swo incredibly groovey and awesome.

  • @alexmejia26 I agree! Any1 got a link for the whole song?

  • jizz in my pants

  • I've just been inspired.

  • Where can we see jojo play in the UK? we love that stuff over here.pls pls if anyone knows, shout it out!!!!

  • 5:50 He's talking about me. This group has brought validity for me. I kinda hate to say it, just thought I'd be honest. :P

But holy shit this is amazing...

  • jojo mayer and tech n9ne should do a drum n bass song.

  • Does anyone know what's the song's name at 0:37?

  • Comment removed

  • why every drummer plays this? damn this dnb thing is so hip :(

  • But the reality is it is damn hard to play electronic music with a live drumset. Computers are insane timekeepers.

  • Tim used to be in Nerve? Hes soo good!

  • does the tune at 2:42 have a name?

  • What that robot guy says at 0:24 is also the beginning to "Antithesis" by Origin.

  • @drummakid101

    This owns, so does Origin!

  • PLEASE !!!! PLEASE !!!! PLEASE !!!

    To EVERYBODY !

Whats the song right in the beginning ?

The song he is playing at 0:17 ?

    PLEASE !

This song is so sick ... i need this song .... the video .... anything please !!!

  • @1Drummer88 jojo mayer & nerve - far

  • thank for posting this

  • how does he get that bass tone at 2:02?

  • @Danny6464 that sounds like a combination between a Moog Ring Modulator and a Moog Low Pass Filter. I know for sure John has a the Moog Low Pass Filter on his board. Not sure about the ring mod though.

  • This is so dope. and yes I do hear a hint of dubstep, which makes this even more DOPE!

  • Brilliant!! Do I detect a hint of dubstep in here-Love it

  • this is awesome!

  • tune at 5:40 sounds soooo good

  • i need to know how the bass player is getting that tone!

  • get a low pass filter yo

  • yeah i can guess that, he's got some kind of modulation going on too

  • 4:26 is the best part! hilarious

  • what's the name of the tune at 2:02 ? I really like it!

  • OH mannn that end clip from about 6:50 on is amazing. How did he get those chops together>?

  • With JoJo and Nerve we are witnessing music history in the making. Quite exciting when you think of it. Much different than - mtvrnbhiphmainstream.

  • Why is drum and bass becoming less popular? I think its the coolest thing ever not to mention dub and what not that used to be so cool. Of course the stupid elementary simple dnb is really dumb, but that good ol' chopped up mindfuck type music will always have a special place in my heart.

  • neuro funk breakcore is the shit! so is asmos.. sorry for the subgenres but they ar real :P

  • because not everyone does acid

  • but everyone should just once

  • @LIGHTRONIX what he said!!

  • @LIGHTRONIX you need to come to perth in western australia.....dnb is very much alive and popular here! :P i produce it too. but these guys, playing an "electronic" genre Live, is just amazing. I would pay good money to see this band in action.

  • @LIGHTRONIX

    Because it's repetitive maybe?

  • @LIGHTRONIX I agree... I suspect people don't realize how much there still is to discover within this genre. I think Mayer is injecting the genre with a shot of validity ( 5:50 ) —I can't wait to see what's next. :D

  • This footage is from 2000-2002. I like the older D&B sound better than the recent stuff, which is more over-produced.

Jojo has been playing this style since probably about 1998, around the time of his great Modern Drummer festival solo.

  • @choirboy5000 I agree. Jojos stuff is way too overproduced nowdays.

  • For 25 years... up until 8 minutes and 39 seconds ago... I was a pretty good drummer. Now I'm re-born... a helpless infant, but with a new sense of purpose. Beyond ludicrous...

  • DEEP

  • I think Jojo is most innovative modern drummer in our times

  • the best what ever could happen to my life :)

  • this guy is the fucking best guy in the world. Wish I would know him.

  • lol, definitely. Have you seen his Frankfurt 2008 performance, amazing

  • dopest thing about jojo mayers nerve is its all improv.. fools a genious

  • whats the name of those songs. Especially the one with lisa shaw.

Where can i get a cd with that songs.

  • I wondered that too, but I think it's just a live jam... But yeah I would really want to have it as well.

  • the cd of Jojo Mayer & Nerve came out 2 or 3 months ago its named Prohibited Beats

  • Thanks for the info, albeit I already knew. Problem is though, the performance with lisa shaw isn't on it, I still think it was a one time gig only, unfortunatly.

  • it came out about 2 years ago in Europe, I own it since June, 2007 :)

  • you are a lucky bastard =P

  • Hi, I'm curious, are you referring to the 35 minute film Prohibited Beatz the documentary? What company was distributing it, thanks!

  • No, I was referring to the album, which I bought at a concert. Anyway, since you're the director of the Prohibited Beatz film, is it possible to get a copy of the full documentary somehow? :) Thanks

  • Haha! Jojo Mayer just raped Drum n Bass and improved it! ;D

  • anyone knows what's the name of the band or i should look for jojo mayer?

  • Jojo Mayer's Nerve

  • thx

  • it's nerve....

it says there: jojo mayer & nerve...

  • I've seen it as Jojo Mayer's Nerve or Jojo Mayer and Nerve.

  • thanks a lot =)

  • Best drummer I have ever seen!

  • damn man to have experience like that.

    amazing.

  • holy shit this is awesome i cant believe i just stumbled onto this, ive been playing drums for 7 years and i always have tried to play dnb style beats on my set because they are hard and fun to play, plus jojo mayer is totally right, its not about copying or making dnb analog, but just utilizing the textures of dnb as its own set of sounds, just like people use jazz textures and sounds recognizeably

  • you have a mature approach for only playing for 7 years ... good for you , and good luck man

  • yeah and being an adept musician takes years.

  • Let's not take any advice from anyone who uses the phrase "this shizy a is a hizzle yall" :)

  • /watch?v=PgS_V0bVkMA&feature=channel_page

  • @JJUI82

hi ... do you know the name of the song played in the beginnig until 0:30 ?

I mean i dont know any video or song that is showing this song ... but its so sick i wanna hear the whole thing :D

  • mollo!

  • yea that bassline at 2:41 kept me watching this thing over and over.

i seriously wish i had the money to start getting into FX for my bass. my dream is to be able to produce sick bass fills for DNB down the line kinda how the guy in this video does.

  • oooo love the bassline at 2:41

  • does anybody know what is said at the beginning? (to impress him...)

  • "d, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says, "Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.""

    J. Robert Oppenheimer said it after the first nuclear bomb test.

  • most intence thing ever said.

  • playing dnb is so much easier than making it with programs, and more fun, producing takes days and can be boring as shit. once your an adept musician this shit just effortlessly flows.

  • that shizzy is off the hizzel yall

  • saw them yesterday :)

one of the best concerts i've ever seen live! only problem is that I don't see the point in practicing drums anymore ;)

  • yeah that´s right! ;)

  • this drummer doesn t need monster drumsets to make other "rockstar drummers" look stupid.

  • @sexorcista Best comment I've ever read.

  • @sexorcista exactly

  • that song with t.c. izlam was sick. anyone knwo the name?

  • where can i get the complete track?

  • Bass sound is awesome!

  • thats pretty trippy

  • j0dance, shut the fuck up. you fail.

go ahead and delete that other stupid comment you made too.

  • Comment removed

  • Metalheadz > all

  • Those vocals....wat...

  • Mainstream????

  • i dont know how you can call this mainstream...i've never heard anything like this on the radio.

  • how the hell does he make his bass sound like that? if anyone knows please please tell me.

  • on his web site in his tech section he probably says

  • belive it or not but my father is a friend of him they played together 15 years ago.

  • does anyone know the song at the beginning of this video?

  • groooooooooooooooooovy

  • the dreadlocked dude hits the nail on the spot - Jojo is bringing a heavy duty sense of validity to the music as a genre ...

  • they would so awesome to see. does anyone know where i can buy his new album

  • damm!!! screech from saved by the bell can rock on the drums!!!!

  • This video was created in 2000. It shows he's been doing live electronic dance beats longer than some of the other percussionists (Thomas Lang, Johnny Rabb) that dabble in this style.

  • Jojo Mayer is really my personal hero... as far as drums is concerned is he absolutely out of this world!

He always plays with so much feel and it is still so damn tight and inspiringly great!

The coolest thing is that he made up a whole new concept: Live drum n bass

  • HA, he did not invent that concept at all.

  • well ok you might be right but let me put it this way:

He simply does his thing really well!

  • haha you're an asshole bitch

  • As a drummer myself, JoJo is one crazy mother****** and i would sell my soul to be as good as him.

  • why dont you just practice. it seems like a much better solution compared to selling your soul.

  • It's not as much of a chore ;)

  • lol true,.

  • jojo mayer is god

  • 1:18 nice shirt

  • I want to see them live. Would be awesome

  • when roli adds those delays and filter sweeps on the snare, it's so ridiculous. good lord!

  • ソフトクリームwwww

  • JoJo is the one that got me hooked into the D'nB Culture!

  • he's an octopus.. not my favorite kinda music, but wow they're a talented bunch :D

  • I will do the exact same beat he does and it just doesn't seem right even when listening to the playback. Jojo is so amazing

  • haha, same here. jojos controll is insane

  • When he came to my City I went and say him live... He is amazing.

  • Can you imagine a club where they didn't play hip hop, and instead they had jojo's band to played this stuff? :O

  • Awesome guy, i would like to see him live.

  • 7:50- 8:00

Imagine what it would have felt like, man, that must be the most incredible feeling in the world...

  • 2:45, badass bassline.

  • he is such a bad ass

  • i hate drum and bass singers, and dancers. FOOLS

    Jojo Mayer VS KJ Sawka

who is better? I would love to see them battle.

  • jojo got better technic and better feel, but kj drum sound more electric.

i like jojo better, but i always depends on the point of view!

  • kj has the fact that he does it all by himself on his side, whereas jojo is a freaking beast with faster one hand rolls than anyone should have and technique for days. i think they should just tour together and make everyone happy

  • This guy is such a beast ... man .... he is tha godfather of drums

  • jesus how fun does that look?

  • It´s all about the Music and the Musicians!!!

Jojo 4 Life, one of the best Drummers after Buddy, in my opinion^^!!!

    Peaz

  • You go no where without change.

  • people are afraid of change but man is change constantly. comfort is simply the laziness of the mind. Provoke the mind and this world will change for better or worse.

  • wiked, wiked

  • This is what I've always wanted to do, reverse engineer loops and Hip-Hop beats.

  • This is so sick ... the first song in this vid ... how fucking sick is this song ?

Besides the godlike drumbeat listen how some cind of chirping crickets enter the beat at 00:05 ... this song is so godlike ... anyone knows its name ?

  • man..youre RIGHT! i WANT THIS SONG! on cd or whatever..a masterpiece..

  • 2:30 mark, what he said after is EXACTLY why American music will never grow! listen and understand folks...

  • stfu man I'm American and I've been playing drum and bass and Jojo Mayer inspired beats for years so stfu with your generalizations

  • wth? lmao...why are you taking what I said personal? I'm talking about the commercialized industry...not one person who's embraced drum and bass or other forms of music...now it's my turn to tell YOU stfu...rock on brohem

  • yeah you sure are right. but where else arround the world is someone actualy progresing in good music. sadly everything a about the mainstream. you ither rap or you play deathmetal. noone has the balls to be themselves anymore.

  • I have to agree. But that's mainly because the commercial wave is so strong it throws back the good music to where it came from ... and that's all a calculated move on the part of higher ups...sad but it's happening all the time. I can't wait till Jojo comes to my area...I'm buying tickets asap!

  • yeah and the only music the mainstream will release is something that will sell. and that al that matter anymore is them bones.

  • There's actually more than you think. Some of today's bands are very, very, good, technically and musically. Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Tool, comes to mind.

  • well yeah i cant argue with that. those bands are awsome. but they dont get the kind of recognition that they deserve. deathmetal bands and rappers do. so all theese kids liketening to deathmetal and rap are like "hey i can do that" and some record producer that doesent know a dick about music is like "HEY! easy money" so what we have now is a major block in music and that actual artform of it and all we have is a product.

  • although i agree completely, good music doesn't always have to be technical =]

  • didnt say it did.

  • Kyjello12...I agree with you, except I have never heard of anyone refer to Death Metal as commercial/mainstream......actually unless you are calling a band like Slipknot, Death Metal, which they are not, im pretty sure it is one of the more underground forms of music today, rofl. On top of that, Jojo himself went through a stage where he played in a bunch of speed metal bands for awhile. This was in the 80's pre-Screaming Headless Torsos shortly after he moved to New York.

  • i think of them as comercial or mainstream because they a;; bascaly copy of off each other. and all end up sounding the same. everyones just following the "scene". i mean beaing goth used to make kids diffrent or freaks or whatever you want to call them. but now its just the "in" thing to do.

  • I think it is sad that you are generalizing using the word American, there are many American musicians who are working hard to push barriers, there is a lot of the same, but that it is like that with most of the word, some musicians come to a point where to turn this into a paying job they have to conform on many levels

  • anyone know where i can get Nerve's music?!?!?

  • hmm i tunes music?

  • Everyone go buy JoJos new video! Its fuckin amazing and it helps you to understand his approach.

  • most skilled drummer (among the known drummers) on earth nowadays ... iam not sayin the best , but definitely the most skilled

  • this guy takes drumming up to a level where i beleive no one else is.

  • Hey that groove at 2:41 was nice, anyone know the name of that song or where I can get an insturmental?

  • Same question.

  • that shit was sick ey. im lookin for da same thing man that bass was wicked

  • amazing musicians all of them..... except for the vocalists. it would sound MUCH better instrumental. just my opinion though. jojo is amazing. any drummers out there should get his dvd secret weapons for the modern drummer. you will learn a LOT of awesome stuff

  • the vocalists connect the musicians to a crowd sor for live performance, the MCs help. Belive me i was at a lof of those sessions..

  • I went to a jojo mayer masterclass today. He is so sick!

  • How much money do you have to pay ? And are his masterlasses for every drummer or only for professionals ?

  • go to a drum clinic or something. i think it was late February Jojo Mayer went to different places to do a drum clinic.... like he went to Miami, FL.

  • And again ...

The Track Jojo is playing in the beginning (You see him at playing it at 00:17 - 00:22)

Anybody knows the name of this song ? Anybody has that song , an recorded audiofile of that song , i life video of that night ... whatever ...PLEASE CONTACT ME ! I NEED THAT TRACK ! SOUNDS JUST TO GODLIKE !
