Like a lot of others here, I've been looking for this video for ages!!! I haven't seen it since the early 80s! And I only saw it on MV3, never on MTV. Thanx so much for posting!!!
This video is almost thirty years old, and really still looks so great. I suppose because he aesthetic (bright lights against a black backgound) is clean. It helps unite the technophilic images with the more primitive/folky dancer. And provides this overall sensuousness. I remember this was everyone I knew's favorite video when MTV first started up. Yeah, back when they played videos. Fun, catchy song and great funky/jazzy arrangement, too. Timeless.
dam this video is one of the first i seen when i was in the 9th grade i did not have cable however show like mv3 & late night video i rember it well the neon was cool.

They would have had to have played it well into '83, cause my cable system didn't add MTV until October '82, and I definitely saw it enough to become familiar with it! I finally found the album in an old record store in Dallas in the late 90s...
INCREDIBLE!!! I am speechless b/c like soo many of the comments that I am reading, I have also had this song stuck in my head for thirty years, I just remember seeing it on t.v. and really liking it. I cannot believe that I have finally found it. I thought I was crazy for hearing this song over and over in my head, and I having little clips of the video replaying in my head too........but now I know that I was not dreaming......THANK YOU RETTRODODD!!!!!!
Visually, this video was well ahead of it's time. Chaz definetely showcases his love for the complex rhythym scheme, absolutely forces you to dance to that hook. Been trying to find this file anywhere, gonna keep looking now. He's supposed to be out touring again soon, bet it still a great show. Thanks
Like many others here, I first saw this on HBO's "Video Jukebox" circa 1982. I never forgot how striking the clip was, but was amazed upon rediscovering it a few years back at how brilliant the music is as well. ALL of his A&M releases from 1980 to 1985 are worth hunting down...unfortunately, only the self-titled debut is available on CD.
Astonishing - to the best of my knowledge I last saw this video in 1981, yet it has always stayed in my memory - the image of light erupting out of a person's mouth! Just how was that done?!
FABULOUS!!! In 1981 I recorded part of this on my first VCR from TV in the middle of the night, and loved it. For over 25 years I've been hoping to see it again--all the way through. It's one of my all-time favorite music videos. Thanks so much for posting it.
YES! YOU ARE SOOOO RIGHT! I saw this on HBO'S video Jukebox, too! I used to LOVE that show! Brings back so many memories from my late grade school early high school years!

There is a connection with Max Headroom. Both this video and the Max Headroom show were directed by Annabel Jankel (Chaz's sister) and Rocky Morton.

Oh yeah and ... The Fixx had the light-in-mouth thing in their "How Much Is Enough" video in '91, was it? I wonder if they got the idea from Chas...

I see Animotion's 'Obsession' is here, too.
Just love youtube sometimes. :-)

In december 1981 this was a hit in Holland. Although I was only 10 years old then, I can still remember this song very well.
Excellent!

Excellent. I saw this on HBO in 1981, between movies.
This and the video for Tom Tom Club's "Genius Of Love" right after it.
Great memories of a wasted youth.
What the hell, I had fun.
