I own the Husky 2009 Te 450. Always breaks down, 1. Water pump leak,2 oil leak, 3 Fuel pump stop working and needs to be replaced. Always stalls. To top it off I only have had this bike 3 months with 1200 miles on it now. I should have gotten a KTM.
hes right you know at 1:46 the vid shows the feeler gauge between the rocker and cam lobe it should be between the shim and rocker...it DOES make a difference
You are correct. I've updated the description to that effect. I thought somewhere in these comments that had been pointed out.
That is the best I can do because links to this video have been passed around the web for a while and the alternative is to simply delete the video. There may be some way of also inserting a title/credit/etc but I'm not sure how and youtube seems to be morphing at the moment and I'm not sure what into.
0.004" to 0.006" for the intake (carb side),0.006" to 0.008" for the exhaust. But always check your manual of course.
If they are not in spec then usually people change the shims to a shim that will give them the correct gap, either by swapping them with a different shim from a kit available for purchase, buying individual shims from dealer, etc. They are pieces of metal - whatever makes sense.
Occasionally some people will sand the shims down to get a thinner shim.
All 4 valve gaps should be measured and adjusted by changing the shims (if needed). There is 1 position of the engine crank/cams/etc that will be the spot where all 4 can be measured and adjusted.
It worked that way on the last 2 2007 510's that I helped with. One was a TE the other a SM.
You may want to have a magnet in case you drop something like a clip or a shim. And of course put a rag where ever you don't want things to fall i.e. putting a rag around the cam chain area might keep a shim from falling in there.
haha it's like you can see into the future... true story happened to me. Did you know a 2007 husky 510 comes equipped with the ability to stand on its head?? hahaha thanks for the help
Alot of people won,t understand what the grease was for(to make the shim stick to the feeler gauge)But still that is a great demonstration and thats also a much better system than the jap bikes run ie bucket and shim don,t have to remove cams and re-time the engine bloody great, a big thumbs up to husky
Awesome video, very nicely done. Good editing and overview. Maybe would be nice to have some audio?

Nice one, dean. Very clear.
You could have said something about what the gauge feels like when it's snug but not too tight

wow that looked too easy

awesome. Where do you get the shims from?
mariomendoza 3 years ago
9.48mm diameter shims are quite common at many bike shops. Husqvarna, and I believe honda, yamaha type shops....

This is very clear video,
do you know tolerances intake/exhaust for a TE 450 2006.
And, if i have the measure out of tolerances, i must to change the shims or just set it on the other face as in your video?

Do you do this for the four seperate cam lobes or just two of them (uncompressed exhaust and intake[closer to the chain side])? Thanks

Hope that maked sense.

Appreciate the feedback. Going to remake this for a few reasons at some point and will show what the grease is for.
