  • think this is good look at a senator or a clubsport hsv

  • SO STOKED! Getting a panther black one soon

  • Gorgeous!! I love the red ones, I miss Pontiac's awesome vehicles. As a G6 owner, I was going to upgrade to a G8 when it was paid off. Maybe I can get a low mileage one for a decent price!! :)

  • @mpgomatic. Man, you are the best at doing Car Reviews. I love watching these videos, because they are non-biased, to-the-point videos, but you also put, a GREAT, personality into them. To sum it up, keep up the SUPERB work! :)

    - Also, have you reviewed the 2012 Chrysler 300C? If you haven't, you should, because that would be awesome!

  • @Ian74263 Thanks for the kind words of support! I haven't been in the 2012 300C yet ... I need to get it on the list.

  • Stop stealing our Aussie cars. Haha :)

  • @1171626 NO!!! We need them!!!!

  • Damn, I'm gonna miss my dad's G8 GT. He put so much money into it. It's a damn shame to see a pretty rare car go (got wrecked and will be totaled). Well, rare in my area. I've only seen one other G8 in town, and there are only 8 for sale within 200 miles from where we live. He did say that if the opportunity ever came up, he'd get another GT or even upgrade to the GXP.

  • @moneyfcmike Sounds like my dad in a way. He had a 1968 GTO and he sold that. That is a car I would have love to have taken a ride in. 400 Cubic V8.

  • THIS IS AN AMERICAN CAR? YES OR NO

  • @TUJEFA122 Turn off caps lock and you might get a response. Channel policy is to delete comments in ALL CAPS.

  • @TUJEFA122 He clearly says "The 2009 Pontiac G8 GT is a classic AMERICAN muscle car..." in the beginning of the video.

  • @TUJEFA122 But then he says "But it's not made in America. The G8 GT is a rebadged AUSTRALIAN built Holden Commodore." :)

  • @TUJEFA122 IT'S A SCOTTISH CAR!

  • @Rarrin9378 IT'S A AUSTRALIAN CAR. Learn to talk without caps.

  • @hexagonview I KNOW THAT. I was joking, AND I WAS ONLY TAKING IN CAPS because the guy who asked the question was.

  • @Rarrin9378 K dude chill

  • @TUJEFA122 The company is American but this car isn't American, its Australian.

  • @TUJEFA122 IT DEPENDS WHAT YOU CALL AMERICAN. tecnically most Hyundai's are made in america.

  • @TUJEFA122 It's an Aussie car sold in North America (08~09) as a Pontiac. At home it's a Holden VE Commodore, Holden is GM in Australia. One of the best cars sold here under a GM brand too bad they didn't keep them....I have a MGM 09 GT and love it...

  • @TUJEFA122 No, it's an Australian car

  • I have a 07 G6.

    Wonderful car. :)

The G8 is extreamly cool. But man,it is terrible on gas which is the only downfall.

  • @dragonballz768 It's bad on gas if you always mash the pedal hard. I took a trip from Raleigh NC to Oklahoma City during the hot summer and averaged 27.5 mpg and had a range of 450 miles to the tank. I also averaged 75 mph for the whole trip. I say for what kind of performance this car gives, it has killer gas mileage. I love this car.

  • @deezomaxima You think this is good on gas, you should try the Aussie Ford XR6 turbo. That's even better.

  • @Alex462047 Well, the G8 is good on gas on the highway.

  • Dear Americans, please look up the Holden Maloo and tell me how you think it would sell in an American market!

  • I really hope Chevy doesn't get their hands on this the Impala is a shit and nothing what it use to be besides the camaro and Corvette Chevy is a former shell of themselves

  • I wish they would redo the impala like this and kill that stupid Fwd

  • Ccmedic09 hell yeah I want one of the two so bad

  • does it come in a real stick?

  • This is a nice car, but I love my '05 GTO!

  • I would like to have the Australian "El Camino" not sure what it is called but it looks really cool. I wish they would sell it here...

  • @NattDogg01 I'm sure Holden would love to sell our utes to you guys. But GM America wont let them

  • i LOVE the interior of this car, and the exterior, but i wish the gauges had a chrome, or brushed metal outlining like the g6....

  • rip pontiac

  • Im soooo glad me and my wife picked up our G8 GT my only compliant now is that I wish I knew about the GXP version 415HP with a manual 6speed.

  • Love

  • what they didnt mention was that the engine was made in america my chevy

  • You Americans need the new 2011 series 2 commodore, 282HP v6 that gets 9.5L per 100km! The new series 2 looks Amazing!! It also comes with a new 6-speed auto as well as the 6-speed manual in both sv6 (standard G8 V6) and ss (G8 GT) versions. Look it up!

  • @danoconnell427 they actually look quite crap its only a twin turbo 2.8l v6 which a skyline would eat for breakfast

  • @skidpiggy Are no it's not a 2.8tt! Where you get that from? I live in Australia, the SV6 Commodore has a 3.6L direct injection V6 what has the ability to run on 90% ethanol! And how can you compare a top of the line Jap sports car to a practical inexpedience family 4 door? I think you must be thinking of a different car my friend because the series 2 commodore is a fantastic looking car... and if a 282hp (210kw) V6 is not enough buy the 6L V8 SS version that will eat a skyline for breakfast!

  • The Australian version looks much better, and I wish they would export the HSV (Holden Special Vehicle) range of cars from hear in Australia to America like we do for Europe...

  • The Pontiac G8 was arguably the best car ever offered on the American market, and yet GM decided it market it so poorly so that hardly anybody knew it existed, and then discontinued the brand as a whole. At least the lucky people down under still have it. Let's pray that the Chevrolet Caprice PPV will be eventually offered in civilian trim.

  • @Artyfil Rumor has it that this car is coming back as the "Chevy SS."

  • @mpgomatic Hey mate, great review and thanks for noting that it is Australian. A lot of reviews I have watched forget to mention that. One of them even claimed the car was a "true american muscle car." If you loved the G8, than you will love the HSV E-SERIES 3 GTS. Holden's super g8. You dont know what you are missing out on if you dont take a look at it. My Youtube channel has 2 videos on the car. Check out: hsv.com.au

  • I prefer the hsv e3 gts compared to this ugly pontiac form

  • My dad has had his Pontiac G8 GT for over 2 years now. He's changed so much stuff from stock, as well as adding a Zex nitrous kit, that seeing another G8 GT stock just looks way off to me. But they are fun as hell to drive either way!

  • @moneyfcmike Does your dad know the car is Australian?

  • @scarblade234 Yeah, he does.

  • I just bought a blue 2009 today....love it!

  • fuck chevy, gmc, and caddilac! Pontiac shouldnt of been pulled! They didnt make any of those huge ass suv's why the fuck should they be pulled? bullshit.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaand then pontiac died......

  • omg did he say "CLASSIC AMERICAN" it's AUSTRALIAN!!

  • in AUSRALIA its name is HOLDEN CLUBSPRT

  • @rodtorre7 In Aus, it is a Holden VE Commodore SS-V. The Clubsport is a HSV model. The HSV is better than the G8/Commodore.

  • @scarblade234 Club sport pretty much similar...last time i seen in 2009. U mean its HOLDEN SS? both r v8?

  • @rodtorre7 Clubsport, SS and SS-V are v8's if that is what you are asking. The 2010 HSV Clubsport R8 is much different to the Commodore/g8. See for yourself: hsv.com.au

  • @scarblade234 thnx mate...club sport price in 70k au$

  • @rodtorre7 Yeah. If it was sold in north america it would have a smaller price tag, which is funny because the Australian dollar is worth more than the US dollar.

  • @scarblade234 I NEVER SEEN ANY HOLDEN IN CANADA. it would be nice to own it...but MUSTANG V6 is about 30k with all options...clubsport will be still more than 30k..

  • @rodtorre7 Probably. The HSV has a thing called EDI (Electronic Driver Interface). It allows the driver to control stuff and view stuff to do with the car. Kinda like a racing team looking at the race car's performance.

  • @scarblade234 nice AUSSIE TECHNOLOGY lol

  • just got done driving a G6 it is alot of fun.the acceleration is good and the weight is good on both sides and keeps it level will going fast around curves also.handles greatly to.would love to try a G8

  • sad that this is an OHC engine and that Pontiac is now obsolete.

  • @DJM442 What's sad is that you don't know what you are talking about. This is a pushrod engine, not OHC.

  • I want this car sooo bad, unfortunately, it's not exactly in a 16 year old's budget :P

  • uhh...Price range?

  • A car that has SUV gas mileage? Yeah...I'll pass.

  • @slm22186 enjoy your econobox, then

  • @slm22186 if that's all you care about, this car is not for you. go drive some appliance like a Prius or a Corolla

  • I think i'd definitely buy one of these over an older charger, but the new 2011 charger would be a hard decision, that thing looks absolutely amazing, plus it will finally have a V6 that can compete with other sedans. That 3.5 was just not enough for just a heavy car. I hope you can get to do a review on that when it comes out

  • omg they copied audi with almost everything

  • Why not give specs? That's kinda what I wanted to see. I see you have a full review in the description, I'll check it that out.

  • nicely done review

  • I have this car in Australia its made by a company called HOLDEN , what you guys

call Pontiac G8 GT we call VE SSV same car different badge but nevertheless an awsome car 5 stars. I have had one for a year and I still get that smile when I put my foot down....; )))

  • little did anyone know.... they DID save the best for last.

  • Did he say "this is a classic American muscle car" at :17? Is this guy on drugs? Muscle car it may be, but American it ain't!

  • @TheTallMan35 With a Twist, no Drugs. Listen again, my friend. :)

  • @TheTallMan35 yep

  • @TheTallMan35

even if its made in Australia by holden, holden is GM, GM is American...I think u can connect the dots from here

  • @Pullenum

Designed in Australia by Australians. Built in Australia by Australians. So American is it???

  • @MCSparki1

uhh yeaahhh GM owns holden, GM is American, most importantly is what makes these cars so great which is the motor which issssss yes yes u guessed correct :)

  • @Pullenum Motor Made in Australia

  • @MCSparki1 actually the engine is built in mexico

  • @TheTallMan35 he said at the start it was australian dude!

  • @TheTallMan35 lol yeah"this is a classic american muscle car".... n he also says "its a rebadged aussie built commodore".............................how the fuck can it be american if its designed and built in australia......oh jeez some yanks are think as mud.

  • I can't believe GM dropped Pontiac and kept Buick. Yeah this car is just a re-badged Holden but its really good. I've been a Japanese car fan my whole life, but I have to admit, this car was brilliant.

  • V-8 Power and good fuel economy? I think I'm in love with this car! If I can get 30 MPG on an 88 Lincoln Town Car with a 5.0L V-8 I can get much more with this beast, GO PONTIAC! =)

  • I enjoyed that. I can't believe it took me so long to see it. I have a 2008 G8 GT (bright red with the premium package) and I love it. Sure, it weighs 2 tons, but my 6'3" 280lb buddies don't mind sitting in the back. The fuel economy is certainly respectable and the power is more than I can handle. What a great car.

  • I love that car!

But what do you mean by faux leather

is that the same as leatherette like in bmw

  • what an awesome car! i bet you had a blast testing it out

  • @tbirdsport302 Heh, yep ... it was a good week. The G8 GT is an awesome car. Wish I had one in the barn. Then again, I wish I had a barn ... =)

  • After a year of owning one...I love it! Good acceleration and the gas mileage isn't too bad as long as you don't keep your foot planted on the floor. I do wish it had a few more bells and whistles but I guess that isn't what this car is about. This is a great review and really hits the nail on the head. Great JOB!!

  • 24 mpg highway that's pants guys really pants and that's U.S. Gallons...... ffs

  • Great Review. I absolutely love everything about this car excapt for one thing. The manual lumbar support should have been upgraded to an automatic motor on the GT and GXP.

  • HOLDEN

  • Great review! Love you guys. I didn't personally feel the need for manual trans, and didn't want to shell out an extra Gs for this awesome car. So I got the GT and put a thousand into it and couldn't be happier! Racing spark plugs, K&N cai and custom dynotune and the engine output is the same as its 6.2L brethren(A whopping 330rwhp and 341rwtq in an automatic!!!) It just doesn't get any better than this :) Oh with tcm tune as well, getting 0to60 in 4.6 and 1/4mi 12.9 seconds! Better than Camaro!

  • I really really want one i hear they are cheap now

  • I hope that Pontiac does return some day. This car is a blast to drive. This is the first rear wheel drive car that I have had in about 30 years.

  • you know this is the only review that i will watch becuase he actually puts the car to the test and he doesnt complain about what he likes and doent like i cant stand the other reviewers like 5th gear kbb or even motor trend and long live pontiac i have one and love it thanks to this review

  • @1fordhater Thanks for the kind words and congrats on your purchase! The G8 GT is one of our favorites ... even though it is a little thirsty ... ;) Pontiac may just return one day ... stranger things have happened ...

  • @1fordhater Yeh, because when you hear a review you don't want to hear about the pitfalls like its shocking slushbox auto, you want to hear the reviewer rattle off the figures out of the brochure.

  • I just bought a used G8 with a V-6. I can't imagine what the GT is like with a V-8.

  • I'm surprised I never watched this one! Still an awesome reviewer now as you were back then! Awesome car too! Sounds pretty damn nice :3 Do they make them in 6 speeds?

  • @MattHutzell Thanks, Matt! This is one of my favorites ... sweet car. From what I recall, the G8 GT was only fitted with the automatic, but a manual was available in the top-of-the-line G8 GXP.

  • @MattHutzell It is a 6 speed... automatic sadly. No manual option for the GT. Damned. I love my G8 GT, but I would love it even more with a manual.

  • @fuhteng That's what I meant by 6 Speed, as in 6 Speed manual. I don't get how they can make a sports car in ONLY automatic.

  • @MattHutzell I know. Keep in mind that the purchase rate for manuals are always lousy though. It was a marketing plan. Ah well. I also remember reading about some issue with the L76 V8 and the active fuel management (cylinder deactivation) that screwed up putting a stick in it. Damned shame.

  • @fuhteng Ya it is. =/ Ah well, might as well get used to it. Pretty soon everything is going to be using a CVT anyways.

  • You guys have really good reviews!

  • @cowmilky - Thanks for the kind words! =)

  • faux leather? you mean...faux (as in 'foe') leather, as in not real leather? and if so, well that's just cheap.

  • how can they discontinue something that nice?

  • more like a bmw than a muscle car

  • your audio is way too low

  • I want this car! I love, Pontiacs. They're true performance sedans.

  • The Wikipedia article on the G8 says "Bob Lutz made an off-hand comment during a press review that the G8 would be revived as the Chevrolet Caprice. Subsequently, Lutz retracted this statement, citing market conditions." As the economy recovers, though, I hope this idea comes back. The Commodore is a beast, and GM needs to bring it back to the US.

  • Oh my god, this thing is awesome, it woops Camaros.. doesnt it have a corvette engine in it.. or faster

  • @marcus7626 this doesnt "woop" a camaro at all

  • @jamezzeal

    look up g8 vs camaro

  • One sweet car!

  • And they're going for less than $10k at the car auctions... for a 2009 G8 GT... told my car guy to call me when he sees one show up... as long as its not black.

  • Yow. If you could nab one for $10K that would be one sweet deal.

  • No doubt... I'll let you know how it works out. I got an old BMW that I could probably sell for $5k... won't help for a used one going for $26k, but hell... if I can get one with a clean title out the door for $10k-ish... it's done!

  • @mpgomatic That guy is full of shit. G8's are bringing well into the 20's for a low mileaged one.

  • @uflnuceng That info is extremely false. IDK if you are trying to make a joke or what. My dad is a car dealer and I go the the auction with him every Wednesday. Auction name is called Manheim. I bought my 09 G8 GT with 10k on it for 22k. If you get one for 10 grand its going to have a branded title, or you are going to be missing the motor in the G8. Sorry but your car guy is stroking you.

  • @GXPFiend I think the one auction guy I talked to was smoking a joint or something, cos you're right. I have been looking at Manheim and the G8 GTs, that aren't fucked with damage, aren't going for less than about 22k according to the reports. Forgot I had posted this, but I was simply repeating what one auction guy told me over the phone... obviously he's been breathing too many paint fumes or something. Sorry for the misinformation.

  • @uflnuceng Nah, its cool.

  • and whats up with all these fas cars...all of them say they are really fast and shit .. but they only make automatics.. wtf.. if its even a semi sports car or if it makes more tan 250 hp .. they should have an optional six speed manual..

hate douchebags who race with automatics..

  • why the fuck do people care if its american or japanese or austrailian and sht? i dont get it..

the only thing people need to consider is .. if its a nice car or not..

    or if its german..lol

  • I wouldn't mind owning one of these cars. Wish it would get aa little better gas mileage.

  • WTF?? did anybody but me catch these goofy people putting DIESEL in the G8? where i come from (CA) the green handles are diesel only everything else is black LMAO thats some funny shit

  • Close but no cigar, jpsbfmc! :) It was a BP station ... they have green pumps.

  • @jpsbfmc Here in Canada...Ontario anyway, a green handle at the pumps = ethanol blend.

  • @jpsbfmc I saw that too lol

  • Yup, somebody seems to have caught the mistake with the pop-up caption. 385 lb. ft of torque versus the 355 figure given by the narration. Great review otherwise! I own and cherish this very car. It's just a wonderful, roomy, well balanced, well built, great handling, great looking and neck snapping powerful car. For but a snapshot in time, it renders the prices of some very awesome German cars to be questionable, at best. I know, I've owned many of them!

  • I'm an australian, and I take that as a compliment, because it's built and designed in australia! where I live, I see heaps of them everywhere! I love this car!

  • Hey GM, if you had listened to your consumers and brought this car to the US as a Chevy Impala, and let the current version be a Lumina, you may have gotten that Police interceptor account, which went to the Dodge Charger instead. Shame on you!

  • Reports in Australia at the moment state an export deal to supply G8's for Police cars is close to finalised. Heard this yesterday.

  • Thank you!! Finally someone understands local town economies and the impact they have on communities in and around the country. I swear to god people are so dense running these companies nowadays no one cares to to do a little homework.

  • "A classic American V8 with a big twist...." Yeah, it's not American. It's Australian. Lol. (see Holden Commodore). It is a nice car just the same. I just wish GM would do some things sensibly at some point in time.

  • what do you mean?

  • I want one of these lol

  • Pontiac was canned wasn't it? What happens to this vehicle?

Does it get re-badged under another GM brand?

Or does Pontiac live on just in a different dealer?

I'm generally not happy that GM does not address family cars properly, but they sure address the performance market. Too bad I'm getting too old for this...

  • There is a very small rumor that it will become the next Impala (I think it should be), but I doubt it because GM is run by a bunch of comatose neanderthals. You know, the old "we could have done right, but...nahhhhhh".

  • There is a very good chance of that, GM has a 50/50 chance of the next Impala going RWD in 2012-13, otherwise it will go to FWD in 2011, and then 2015, will be on a new, global RWD platform.

Ed Whitacre and Bob Lutz are trying, it's Fritz Henderson that's ruining everything.

  • What i will do is buy one and garage without driving it for about 30 years, and by then it will be worth 50- 100 thousand. : )

  • yeah right, in 30 years most people will have electric cars and the price of that car vs inflation probably wont hold up. bad investment

  • If Obama has his way, yes, America will we be communist country using tiny electric cars.

Otherwise, it will be a collectible.

  • what the fuck does Obama have to do with the inevitability of the electric car?

I was saying that the car wont hold up against inflation, sure it might be 50-100k but how much would those 50k-100k buy in todays dollars, probably a little more than you bought it for.

Wasting that space all those years.

Its more love for the car then an investment

  • I had mine since 10/08.. No issues and drives amazing.. Only have seen maybe 15 on the road. Gets alot of looks.

  • to bad this has to die with the rest of the pontiacs : (

  • no they dont wanna waste the design so there making it the chevy caprice, iwould perfer it as a pontiac though

  • Honestly IMO this car has it all. Looks, Power, Good Price and even alright MPG. I heard some get as much as 26-29 highway. Hows the reliability and quality on them though? From what I heard good, any first hand experiences?

  • Very good cars though we haven't had ours for long (about 2 weeks now) But with me Hammering it all the time it's done nohting but put out.!

  • JESUS CHRIST!!! @ 1:20

  • Wow he F-ed up in the vid. 361 hp, yes but not 355 lb ft. or torque.

  • 355HP 385lbft of torque

  • 361 HP 385 TQ ;)

  • 355, check your specs for the 2009, they lost 6HP due to them using regular fuel for the testing instead of premium.

  • I like this car a lot but I don't like the name. It should have been the new Grand Prix.

I think one of GM's biggest mistakes has been dropping classic name badges that have done very well. Another example is the G6 it should have continued with the Grand Am name.

Ask yourself this question which statement sounds more impressive "I drive a Pontiac G8" or "I drive a Pontiac Grand Prix" ?

To me names like G5, G6 and G8 sound too nerdy and very "New World Order-ish"

  • being a gm technician i completely agree

  • Am going to get this car soon.

  • yeah right

  • Lmao you just mad that am gonna have one before you.

  • *cries furiously*

  • "the best and last of the breed"

Bullshit, Holden wont stop making them just because GM fucked up.

  • to bad pontiac is done

  • so?

  • Get one while they're around.

  • If President Obama has his way we would all be driving boring 100 hp front wheel drive cars that get 50 mpg. Oh well smoke while you get em'!! Give a v8 and rear wheel drive!!
