I once heard that it is impossible to hold your own breath to the point of death simply by willpower. Eventually, your body takes over for your brain and forces your lungs to take air. (a.k.a. the only way to commit suicide by suffocation is by making it physically impossible for you to breathe)

Actually, a human can hold their breath until they pass out. But when you pass out, you naturally start breathing again. So it just doesn't work. *sigh*
