The Looney Tunes theme debuts here. Note who the animator was, given his triumph over the "supervisor" in later years [read--the famous Warners director feud well-written about in animation circles!]
This is the first one with "Porky-in-A-Drum" ending. The early one! Did the new one appear on "Wise Quacks" or "Porky's Hotel" cuz I saw "Wise Quacks" with the Warner Bros. line out of the scroll and was wondering if the new Porky ending was featured.
Do you suppose Nancy Cartwright got inspiration for Bart's voice from the puppy from this cartoon? I can sort of see the similarities in the voice and attitude.
Of course out here in northern California, they do not play the old cartoons anymore. But i ordered alot of the old favorites, had to look some up cause as a child you only remember the characters not the title name, boy did my mom laugh at the good ole memories
You must've saw the 1968 colorized version with the Seven-Arts logo in the opening and closing portions. Have you seen the 1995 color version on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network?
At the time, you saw the 1968 color version. The opening/closing graphics were replaced with the 1968 W-7 graphics. Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network aired the 1995 computerized color version. The opening graphic was screwed up...it didn't show the Vitaphone and the copyright data above and below the W-B shield.
This was released in late 1937, when Bob Clampett was virtuallly given "control" of the Porky cartoons- and all of the Clampett animators went on to greater achievements! Actually, that's "Nagasaki" under 4:40 through 5:00 {As you well know, Carl Stalling blended LOTS of Warner Bros. songs, from their music publishing divisions, into his scores}. Thanks again for identifying who "did" what, 'DJ'!!
Anyone else find it surprising that, even with the animation change later on, when Porky says "That's all Folks!", he has the same voice?

Whats that song playing at :31? I also heard it in The Crackpot Quail whenever the dog runs. It must have something to do with dogs.

This cartoon was shown on WPHL-TV (channel 17) as part of "Bugs Bunny/Porky Pig" in a redrawn version.
This was the first cartoon to have a Porky-in-a-Drum ending, but it continued right up until early to mid 1946.

If there's one lesson WB learned from colorization, it's that it should never be done by redrawing the cartoon.
The computer is the way to do it.

I agree.

October 9, 1937, to be exact.

I *thought* that was "Nagasaki," though "Hold that Tiger" *does* sound similar in all fairness...

This one is pretty good! (And most of the notes at the bottom weren't distracting and actually interesting, excpect for the "laughter".)
