  • I liked this movie. It was good, I enjoyed it! Thanks for posting.

  • This movie was awesome. Like really. I enjoyed it a lot.

  • I truly love this movie , thanks for uploading !!

  • This movie is absolutely awesome. Old school style !!! Pass it on so we can enlighten others. G

  • Mama Rosa (Louise Stubbs) is the great grandma of Terrence Howard. You can see the resemblence in those crossed looking eyes...

  • Everyone should watch this film.

  • i thank mr scott(NYT) for recommending this movie.IT IS BRILLIANT!

  • Okay well what happened to Netta? Not a bad lil movie. The ending kinda sucked. Loose ends and all. But great acting. Enjoyed it.

  • @theslabbxxx There was no loose ends. Netta had already told Billie Jean when she got her degree, she was going to law school, same place, and she was going to be there for awhile, and she wanted her to come be there with her. So as you can see, Billie Jean went. It was up to us to figure out what happened with her from there, I always thought she made it. Her sisters, well let's just say, they either wised up or still learned the hard way. Rosie.... sometimes you have to admit you're wrong.

  • superb this movie is. omg it has me crying i'm so happy for for billie jean she escape the madness and i know i need to do the same in my own life

  • Great movie. Some one needs to make a part two.

  • Excellent movie. At first I wasn't going to watch this movie, but I am glad I did. Some families do have vicious cycles of ignorance and shame. I am glad Billie Jean broke the family cycle. Some people just lose hope for not having a bigger dream. Great ending. Great actors. Great movie. They do need to remake this movie for today's agenda.

  • Great movie!!

  • thank goodness BJ got out of that ignorant house...thank goodness also for mu'dea for talkin some sense n2 mama rosie

  • That was a good movie. I was born in 1971. Thanks so much for posting!

  • I wish this movies was longer, it really captured my attention and my emotion. Great movie! Those sisters where really mean but people have to understand that that was partly the mothers fault because they have resentments because of the way the mother neglected them. Hopefully Billie did what she had to and became someone great.

  • where could I Go Buy This @ for My MOm

  • what a cute dress... she looks so pretty..

  • Great movie!!

  • nearly made me cry thanks for posting

  • This is a terrible cycle in some famlies ,where a person is gifted ,annointed,or just wants cange the whole family seems to be against them,This is the first time I've saw this movie it is excellent

  • I stumbled across this movie and I loved it. Thanks for taking the time to post it!!

  • Great film.....

    ThX

  • Thanks for uploading one of my many favorite movies. Such strong, excellent acting ;^)

  • Do you know what part they play the song "Black Girl"?

  • Great movie, remarkable actresses and actors!!

  • I've changed my mind...I'm glad I decided to finish viewing this movie, because this was aN EXCELLENT film. The acting was SUPERB. hank you for uploading this, I'm going to buy the DVD if I can.

  • I don't remember a single word coming out of Ruby Dee, but she was the scariest person in the movie. Not even a knife wielding Norma was as scary as her in that rocking chair.

  • Great movie. But, I don't understand why they chose a pop sounding song for the ending. It doesn't fit the movie even though I still like it.

  • I'm going to have to come back and think on this. But this movie is AWSOME. It really needs a remake. Taraji would be perfect as the pregnant sister. Someone said KeKe Wyatt should play Billie Jean. I think the little girl in Tyler Perry I can do bad could play the hell outta that role too. This movie was just deep on so many levels dealing with issues with black womanhood and the black family.

  • Almost like Cinderalla without a man involved. lol lol

  • R.I.P. Walter Hawkins, you could make any song sound good. Great Singer.

  • If Tyler Perry was to remake this movie he probably make it a goddam comedy with Medea playing the grandmother.

  • @hanbone76 lol so true....tyler perry has potential to make powerful and realistic black movies but he keeps coming up with the same formula and it aint working no more.

  • Is there anyway to buy te end song sung by walter hawkins, called sisters?

  • is the grandma the lady from the movie imitation of life

  • they need to do a remake or a part two to this movie...cause it's just that good....thanks for posting

  • @ brownboykb: Thank you soooooo much for posting this movie. What a beautiful gem of a film!

  • hank u so much for postin this i seen this movie once when i was little and i fell in love with this.... i love black movies from the 70's

  • This movie was off the chain, this was my first time seeing this movie and I thought it was great, I love the movies from the 1970's it reminds me of my childhood from that era.

    Thanks for posting this movie.

  • @alijn7 Me too during a time when we were a real community. That closeness is truly missed. Makes you so happy to see those good old days doesnt it? tear drop! :) Such creativity. A wonderful experience as a kid was seeing my first live black play in the seventies at Detroit's Vest Pocket Theatre "No Place to be Somebody" written by Melvin Van Peebles Sr. Such a wonderful start for many black performers back then.

  • @TheMidcoast1 What is "No Place to be Somebody" about? Did they make it into a movie?

  • @SuniDays87 I dont think so but I believe there was an album though. The live play was about the pitfalls of living in the ghetto. Forgot most of the actors who were in the play but remembered the young lady " Charlene" from the "Claudine" movie was among them. I would love to know, If you find out anything... keep me posted ok?

  • @TheMidcoast1 look up 'Tamu Blackwell' in the search engine. someone made a tribute to her.

  • This if the first time I saw this movie and damn I gotta say this movie was great. Great acting, great script, everything!

They should make more movies like this nowadays. Too bad I wasn't born in the 70's to experience all the great stuff.

  • WOW! I was born in '83 but I need to see more movies like this, str8 up. GOOD, REAL MOVIE!

  • Claudia McNeil could play those roles. Anybody remember her in "A Raisin in the Sun"?

  • Yes, I do!!!!!

  • Wow, I've never heard of this movie, but I watched the whole thing. Thanks for posting.

  • Great movie!!!

  • The pimp in the red at the beginning and the end was Rollo.

  • @arkansoul I saw that too and was just getting ready to comment on it, lol...

  • Whatever happened to Peggy she really played the part of Billie Jean so well.

  • This was an excellent movie. It highlights the daily struggles of black people, and the film is just as relevant as it was almost forty years ago! TV One started showing this on television when it debuted back in 2004. I have not sen it I guess since 2007 on TV One. Great film! Great Actors!

  • Wow. This one is so deeply personal. My wife and I were looking for classic black films and saw this up. It's a beautiful story about black women and their daily trials...I highly recommend anyone who sees this posted to sit and watch it. Great acting and heartfelt emotion.

  • WHAT A GREAT MOVIE! THANKS

  • This is such a good movie. I was 6 or 7 when this came out. I never knew about this movie and I never heard anyone talk about it. It was by accident that I bumped into this movie on You Tube. I will tell others about this film. It is a gem.

  • Baddass movie. I can't stand Billie's 2 jealous sisters and was glad she got enough sense to listen to her foster sister instead of their ignorant low life nonsense asses.

  • Thank God for Nettie. If if was for her, she would have had no one to encourage her.

  • This is the type of mind concept that has and still does hold a lot of our people down. Mind over matter. When all we need is love. This was great "Brown". Nice pic. Please send more our way.

    frederica71

  • I am glad that BIllie Jean went on to make something of herself. Otherwise I wa never going to be able to exhale. Whew! I just wished that the mom really found out why Netta got new on her. That would be painful in real life, as crazy as she was about her. I ain't got no words for the eveil sisters. I just hope that they found their own lives...Wow. I got to wrapped up in this movie. It was great. Thanks for posting it.

  • @kpitt1204 My bad.....I got TOO wrapped up....

  • I love the women whos their mudea shes always a strong and wise black women in every role i've seen her play

  • Thanks for the upload "brownboykb". I hadn't seen this in going on 40 years, but I still remembered the song. This was a favorite of mine from back then, and I'm surprised at how much I remembered.

  • Love this movie thanks for posting .

  • Thank you for posting this movie I just sat down and watch the entire movie ive always love this movie

  • When that yellow cab pulled up in the driveway, I would had ran fasssst out of that house. Her sister was crazy.

  • THANKS so much for posting this.

  • Brilliant movie

  • Fantastic, thank you!!!

  • THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! I love you!

  • Thank you-

    Lovely ending. :)

  • I love this movie! Thanks so much for posting it!

  • Love this movie....so bittersweet.

  • hehehe yeah. The movie ended too soon. Wish there was a Part 2 to see the success of Billy Jean.

  • what do you think happened to the mother? did she go back the father or did she stay with the daughters a let them poison her mind further?or do you think the mother media kept her sane?

  • I think that she became happier with Billy Jeans success as a ballet dancer and Billy Jean bought her a house. Also, that her sisters hearts were soften by this. Ma Dear and Mr. Herbert got married and moved into a senior citizen development. Netta went on to become a successful lawyer and hired a live-in nurse for her mother. Rosie never went back to EP because she didnt need to since Billy Jean because successful.

  • yu gave everyone a happy ending ,i think billy jean took dance but found a more stable college path and change the ballet to taking up a funky jazz and street dance, she leaned some moves from the Groovy grill, she's studying to be a Psychologist because her family needs help Norma is trying to take some courses in city college to compete with billy jean as usual,Now Rosie is Braggin about billy jean and rosie the mom starts to date somone at the school>>

  • This ended too soon

  • Beautiful!Where were her evil step sisters?
