I Remember that the trams didn't need to turn...the driver took out that handle thing and put it in at the other end and carried on backerties...well,you know what I mean.
Yeah, remember the traind crossing Elmwood Roads. Distant memory of manual operated gates. Railway ran at the back of our tenement. Memories of Black fives pulling coal wagons up the hill.
Hi.... my family are from Dundee ...I was only two months old when the last tram was taken off - so cant really remember them...... some family still in Dundee - my granny lived in Lochee !! Love Bonny Dundee X
I'm glad you like them Ben - I enjoy uploading these old pictures a great deal of real history is contained within them. Dundee in its time was the richest community on the planet despite the run down appearance in the pics...
when I worked for Dundee Parks Dept we stored a great deal of junk at Maryfield. It was a wee treasure trove of artefacts...Dundee being Dundee scrapped most of it...
Scary....!?!?! Trams were an adventure. Of course I was 2 years old when the very last tram wa staken off in October 1956, but I do recall clambering aboard with my mum going home from the steamy...
I was 6, so must have just made it. Funny how some things stick in your memory. I agree, Alan, trams were exciting. I remember my tram rides vividly, the sounds, the smells, everything.
Photo number 2 is not at the junction of Westfield Road/ Perth Road.
It is on the Perth Road at the bottom of Glamis Road near the old Ninewells terminus. The area remains much the same to this day.

Do you remember when the trains ran across station brae (Elmwood road) and the level crossing there?
The trains ran behind Ancrum road school.

I`ve been a way for a day or two cathcing up.
I am a Lochee born and raised - very clear memories of trains passing up and down the South Road. Walked the line often in the 60s

Brilliant, my friend. Brings back memories. Not the horse and cart ones, mind, the motorised ones.
Always wondered what it looked like inside that building in Maryfield. Thanks for this.
