  • its on the 1st Muppet Show LP vinyl.. classic.

  • dicky bird?

  • Obdurate... Hardened by wrongdoing or wickedness

  • Dickybird.

  • ob·du·rate [ob-doo-rit, -dyoo-]. adjective.

    1. unmoved by persuasion, pity, or tender feelings; stubborn; unyielding.

    2. stubbornly resistant to moral influence; persistently impenitent: an obdurate sinner.

  • What's obdurate? .... I don't know.

    Bahahahaha!!!!

  • i love the muppets and im 12

  • @roseta75 i love the muppets and im 19 :P

  • Muppet Show must come back!

  • (looking offstage) "you want to do this?" LMAO

  • My cousin's 9-year-old daughter pointed out that Sam and Rowlf resemble Bert and Ernie. Rowlf does have a head like Ernie's and Sam has Bert's unibrow. Agree?

  • @mohinderbauer they're like the same voices

  • @mohinderbauer Your daughter is right. Plus I could TOTALLY see Ernie and Bert doing this same skit.

  • @mohinderbauer Also Kermit and Fozzie resemble Ernie and Bert not their looks but their personality

  • FA-BU-LOUS ! Thank you.

  • Oh I used to get upset when I heard this version.

  • 0:28 "... ... ... dickybird"

OMG I can't stop laughin'! My cheeks hurt!

  • William and Arthur would have loved this!!

  • they behave and react like real living things though. you forget very fast they are puppets.

  • @jeetendrag10acc2 If you watch them enough you get to know them as friends... It's odd how you can know a Muppet back to front.

  • "Why are they laughing?"

Poor Sam, he can't catch a break.

  • I love watching any two Henson/Oz characters interact. It's gold.

  • Combination of my favourite light comedy repartee of Gilbert & Sullivan with the best puppet show ever on TV! What could be more delightful.......

  • The weirdest thing about this is that the ending makes very little sense, as they never mention the part where the bird dies. Still, hilarious, the kind of stuff you just don't get anymore.

  • I bet you couldn't have a song like this on kid's tv nowadays (unless you wanted the children to be howling with laughter)

  • @xhellonhighheels69x Why not?

  • Sam, what a miserable twat! Stick a feather up his arse.

  • Aw man, they left out the best part:

He slapped at his chest, as he sat on that bough

    Singing "Willow, titwillow, titwillow"

And a cold perspiration bespangled his brow

    Oh, willow, titwillow, titwillow

He sobbed and he sighed, and a gurgle he gave

Then he plunged himself into the billowy wave

And an echo arose from the suicide's grave

    "Oh, willow, titwillow, titwillow"

  • 0:39 "......dickiebird??" Sighs.

    lol

  • Genius! They don't make TV like this anymore. (sigh)

  • When did Dick Cheney and Tom Waits do this? Haha.

  • What, Rowlf is not a real dog?!?!?!?!?! That's absolutlely amazing! I never knew that! (add great mounds of sarcasm here)

  • Reminds me of Ben Stein and Wolf Blitzer

  • No other dog can play the piano like Rowlf can. What a performer!

  • @SuperCruiser72 Thank you for your kind and insightful observation. Your courteous and gentle correction has me laughing quietly to myself.

I recommend Tai Chi for your nerves. The deep breathing and gentle rhythmic movements are very soothing and highly beneficial for your blood pressure.

And don't forget to bring your sense of fun.

  • @Hikikomori013 He sent me a similar message concerning whether or not Sam's eyebrow was cute. I think it might be a troll but it's so hard to tell.

  • ''You wanna do this?......oh,uh, willow ti willowtiwillow...''

  • "Why are they laughing?"

  • ...dikki bird...

  • I love Sam's eyes! And that eyebow! So cute!

  • Oh The Mikado how I miss it!

  • The Muppet Show MUST be brought back for primetime TV.

  • @Angie2343 Unfortunately, they don;t generate merchandising revenues like pokemon crap.SO its unlikely that tv executives will actually bring back something this good ,this poetic, this elaborate back on tv. They want kids to become stupid bungling idiots who buy plastic toys and go " pika pika pika chooo" at the ripe age of 13.

  • @jeetendrag10acc2 Awwwww!

  • @Angie2343 Why, you dont like watching 30 rock, Terra Nova, DWTS, the X Factor or any other SHIT thats on now!

  • @Angie2343 It's unfortunate that "Muppets Tonight" didn't work out.

  • @Concetta20 Yeah.

  • @Concetta20 Yeah, why didn't it?

  • @Angie2343 Didn't they try this with "Muppets Tonight"?

  • !teppum ynnuf tahT

  • Sam's trying to protect his dignity.

  • I'm so the opposite of Sam, but I idolize him. I think it's because he's me when I'm in a bad mood.

  • Y'know, when i saw this, I at first thought Sam was gonna protest about the word "tit" being in the song, but that'd get a little too adult, I guess. How dirty-minded of me. XDD

  • "You wanna do this"?

  • LOL! I loved the Mikado

  • "Why are they laughing?" Maybe because of the way you ended the song, Sam. Furthermore, I wouldn't worry about it too much. ;-)

  • "Is this cultural?"

  • 'Why are they laughing?' XD

  • Sam was really thrilled to do this, lol

  • "Now i'm sure as i'm sure as i'm sure that my name... isn't.. willow tit willow tit willow" lol!

  • LOL! Funniest thing I have ever seen in my life!!

  • you notice that this trumps the real performance by pros on youtube in hits by like 9 to 1 LMAO!

  • What's wrong with Sam?

  • poor sam always worried about his dignity-- he doesn't want to say "tit" or be called a "dickey"-bird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL! "What's obdurate?" "I don't know, Sam."

    It means 'stubborn', guys. ;)

  • 0.40 "Dicky bird??"

    priceless

  • "You wanna do this?"

    "Why are they laughing?" lol

  • rowlf is my fav

  • "Willow tit willow tit willow" is almost a palindrome.

  • i heard she died

  • Why are they laughing? LOL

    Classic!!!

  • I've always preferred this version to the "straight" one.

  • rofl I had to sing this song for my VCE Recital, but they topped me :P

  • *blank look* "...Dickybird? ...*sigh* Willow, tit-willow, tit willow."

I had a casett of Muppet songs when I was little (still have it, actually) coz I loved the Muppets even though I'd never seen the Muppet Show. I'm 18 and this is the first time I've actually seen the performance of "Tit Willow." XD

  • Rolf was the first muppet and the best

  • ANIMAL BETTER!!!!!!!

  • @morryau: I thought Kermit was the first Muppet.

  • Hilarious!!! willow......tit....willow....tit....willow....

he puts so much enthusiasm into it!!! LOL XD

  • Interesting how they edit out the bird's suicide...

  • ah the memories

  • jajaja estos muppet son lo maximo.

    divercion sana

  • And who says puppets CAN'T have any personality??? Sam's expressions were priceless, esp since they were all the same!

  • ...Why are they laughing? xD

  • you can tell sam is getting a little pissed

  • :D:D:D:D:D:D

  • why are they laughing?

  • "...` Is it weakness of intellect, birdy´, I cry. ...-Not meaning you, Sam...."

  • CLASSIC.

  • Sam's incredible...always been :DDDDDD

  • LOLOLOLOlOLOlOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "Why are they laughing?" Sam can be so serious and at the same time make you roll on the floor laughing.

  • totally agreed! i love just his entire demeanor through this entire thing. "Willow...tit-willow...tit-willow."

  • It's his DESTINY ;o)# And he does it soo well!

  • Yeah! That`s why I love him best in this show (along with that crazy swedish chef :D )

  • And the combination with Rowlf and the song makes this a great skit!

  • Oh Sam, you just play the part of the bird. It's not written for an eagle, but eh... "" Dicky-bird YEAH

  • What's obdurate?

  • unmoved by pity or feelings.

  • Yes.... I know.... I was quoting :P

    Wonderful word though, eh?

  • I don't know Sam.

  • Sam seems so awkward doing that.Aaah but as long as it's cultural!

  • this still make me laugh lmao

  • wow, i never realized the muppets were so sharp! this is awesome

  • "You wanna do this???....oh! uh Willowtickwillowtickwillow!"

    LOL

  • LOL indeed.

  • Comment removed

  • Is Obama still looking for a dog for his kids?

  • Cultural.... Why are they laughing?!

    WILLOW TIT-WILLOW TIT-WILLOW :o)#

Nice to see Sam do "his thing" for a change.

  • This is the quintessential Sam the Eagle skit as far as I'm concerned.

  • Du 10e degré, les Muppets!!!!

  • Muppets FTW!!!

  • my god!

  • Sam is one of the greatest of Jim's creations. Frank Oz did a great job performing him.

  • Totally-- Sam is one of my favorites. Do you suppose Stephen Colbert's character is based on him?

  • Gilbert and Sullivan would be so proud!

  • Awesome!

  • Even after all these years I really miss the Muppets!! Pure clean hillarious entertainment, What a genius Jin Henson was.

  • lolol!!!

  • 'Why are they laughing?' HAHA!

  • i love this play! i was in it! (not the muppets, the mikado.)

  • hahaha the muppet mikado!!!

  • Dickie Bird??

  • Also every time Rowlf finishes a tune and puts his paw to his mouth as if to say, "oops, did I do bad?" I want to yell, "No Rowlf, its perfect!" :D

  • Eagle: "What's obdurate?"

    Rowlf: "I don't know."

    me: *Uncontrolled fit of giggles.

Definition of obdurate: unmoved, stubborn, unyielding

  • that always was the funniest part along with "you wanna do this?"

  • Aha!

  • @crym77: Sam is the definition of "obdurate"! x-D

  • The Muppets singing Gilbert and Sullivan! My two favourite things in the world combined!

  • Another classic Muppet skit - from the VALERIE HARPER episode, Season 1, episode #20.

  • The origin of Steve WILSON is now known to all who grace the MTU.

  • All I can think of when I hear this song now is Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce as Niles and Frasier xD

    LOL

  • i have spent my entire life trying to figure out what that thing was... and it's an eagle. omg. lol

  • lol :P

  • These Rowlf the dog segments were created as Fillers for the Canadian and UK runs of the Muppet show.

In the States when the show first aired The had 3 mins less program due to commercials so to fill those 3 mins The did these spots. Americans Only got to see these once the show went into syndicaton

  • Sam the eagle is funny. Characters that take themselves too seriously always are.

  • That's why I love Michael Moore.

  • Yes, I too thought that Sam the Eagle comment was just too good an opportunity to rag on Michael Moore....

  • One of my favorite Sam the Eagles sketches was his rant on nudity. Going off on people being naked under their clothes, then mammals being naked under their fur, then he started going into birds till he realized what he was saying, then he kind of slunk off, his arms down like he was naked himself.

  • You can watch that part of Sam on youtube, someone has posted a lot of muppets episodes and you can find in the episode with Nancy Walker.

I saw it too, it was really funny!

  • A good friend of mine had that episode on vhs and showed it to me when I was sleeping over. We kept rewinding it and laughing. What's really funny is that my friend was thought of by others as very conservative, so that made the whole thing even funnier to me that she loved it so much. "NEKKID!" LOL

  • And he was soo embarassed.! A small big bird indeed. :o)

  • "dickey bird?" it's just his expression and timing.

  • Why are they laughing? lol Sammy's frickin hilarious

  • Sam the Eagle. Classic!

  • This is one of the funniest Muppet skits. I heard that Rowf retired after Jim Henson passed away. A classic! I love that the muppets are reading the music...fantastic. lol

  • Sam is my favorite! He was the host of the first muppet tv show, Then when it was picked up, Kermit got the job. Sad. He was getting beat at games after every commercial, losing his temper! What could have been...

  • It was actually a different Muppet with the same name. The "Sam" you're probably thinking of was bald and wasn't an eagle.

  • The original Muppet Show host was Nigel, who became the orchestra leader on this incarnation. Sam the Eagle was just there to make things didn't get too silly... basically what he tries to do here, but fails completely. (Ever see the Discussion Panel where he's paired up with Gonzo? Never thought I'd see an eagle get that close to having a fit!)

  • Jim Henson (Rowlf) and Frank Oz (Sam) deserve greater recognition for their brilliant comic timing. This bit is excellent.

  • muppets and weed; an unbeatable combination XD

  • Haha, i loved that! Too bad they skipped the middle part of the song, though...

  • I had such a good laugh, Thanx!!!

  • Odjurate!!!!!!!!!! Best muppet skit ever HAHAHAHAHAHA
