@PadrigVellca ha coz its confusing! its about a unemplyed man who carries whis bag known as matilda around looking for a job. he then steels or kills (i dont remember) a jumbuck (sheep) then the police comes after him but he kills himself by drowning in the river...thats why it cant be australias national anthem XD
@MissJazzymine Are u serious? Well its a pretty good i wont lie. But national anthems are supposed to give pride to a nation and glorify itself. How does this song do that xD
My Grandfather went for waltzing in Austria and Germany (er ging auf die Waltz) therefore I know it is a German expression. The tradition dates back to medieval times and it still alive in German-speaking countries. On the British Isles the tradition is lost and only the title journeyman itself reminds of the action of young men traveling throughout the country.
anybody else saddened that not only did Axis of Awesome make you want to come listen to this (along w/ other multiple songs they did) and you were sad when you realized benny made it sound so much better/cooler? this and happy ending just dont sound as good...benny made em better. same w/ im yours and some others..
@BrodyNomad naw ya dunt coz he died incase ya didnt get that and its about a homless guy and his swag like how you see a hobo kinda thing with his cloth tied to a stick thats swag he called it matilda and thats what he ment by waltzing matilda like he walks with it always with him :D but i dunt think ya wanna b a homless guy ^_^
@guitarrrsss just cause they reminded me of it, i learned it in like the 5th grade and promptly forgot it existed until I saw their video and was, "oi! I know that shite!" Now I can't get it out of my head.
@blawr26 Nah, mate. Not our anthem, it lost in a poll yonks back, but it's certainly the song that brings Australia together... not 'Advance Australia Fair' *sticks out tongue*
We needs something like 'We Are Australian' as our anthem :D
With no disrespect to this performer I have to honestly express my humble opinion, which is that nobody can perform "Waltzing Matilda" as good as Slim Dusty. Nobody can even get close to his version. This one's still good, though.

This song represents the spirit of Independence and Republicanism - fuck the British Empire and fuck the Royal Family - a song like this should not be so foully defiled by Anglo Saxons.
What? Oh noes! A special sort of people can't play a special sort of instruments in a special sort of song??? You know.. There's a word for that.. I think it starts with an R... Hmmm, what could it be....

Cheers,
