I love nikki and her gift is amazing! but i too believe that she can go a bit overboard with all the rifts and runs to where the song doesn't seem to flow... the song was still good but in my opinion would have been even better had she not did soooo much movement. her vocals are so on point that she doesn't have to over do it just let God use you....

I'm confident it's not Kirk stopping her from doing more on his albums because she does even more runs on Kirk's stuff than on her other recorded tracks that I've heard. Even live, if she's singing a duet or something other than a solo, she's more simple from what I have observed. Anyway, I personally love her "crazy" vocal stunts, but I do get the "over-doing it" dissatisfaction.

She can sing, but I have such a huge issue with her rendition of the song: I felt so lost with what she sang. I did not hear the melody at all. Yes, add your own flavor to a song when you sing, but do not forget the melody, as that is what makes people enjoy the song.

i feel you. sometimes it can overboard but i feel like you have to focus more on the words and the meaning behind the song. that way you are still ministered to. thats just the way that she ministers. dont get me wrong.. alot of people can go overboard and run too much or just do their own thing to the point that the ministry is lost. but, thats when we have to focus harder on the ministry of the words of the song. feel me?

Oh what I meant is, Nikki Ross has evolved so much since this video: her ear and diversity of runs and vocal stunts, etc has grown even much greater than it was. I am thrilled about who she's become, but at the same time I miss some aspects of the old Nikki Ross. She had a rawness and smoothness to her that I miss. She also had a higher range and a rich, softer voice. Her runs here are so sweet, and, ironically, part of that is due to how the variations are limited, and the chords they produce

Yes sir, that's def true for Karen. There's a recent youtube video of Nikki Ross @ the Triple M Conference recorded like 2 months ago where she sings To God be the Glory & There is no way. Look it up if you haven't seen it already. On that video even though her voice and range are back in great condition, it was like she had decided to avoid the runs and riffs, maybe due to people calling it a show-off or her feeling like her runs are not worth it. And I love the runs and crazy vocal stunts!

What I was trying to say about the runs was that ironically, part of how sweet they sound is due to the relative simplicity of the chords they produce. And I kind of miss that sometimes, but I'd still rather have a Nikki Ross that is most advanced.

You should check Nikki out on Ricky Dillard and New G's last project. The 7th Episode Live in Toronto. Nikki killed I Surrender All. Her vocals are ridiculous and her runs are so clean. I was in awe when I heard her sing in rehearsal when we were getting ready to record Ricky and New G's last project. She has been underrated for so long, it's about time she's getting the recognition that she deserves.

The comparison to Kim is a bit overrated. They both started out in Houston around the same time. I cant honestly say she taken anything from Kim. I've had the pleasure of witnessing Both Artist in person on many occasions throughout the late 80's and early 90's. Their styles are geniune.

Nikki has been singing like this for years. I first heard Nikki in 93 in Houston at Willing Workers Bapt church and Booker T HS in Houston. Her style has not changed.
