The winning percentage of his opponents throughout his career was only 66% He got knocked out by David Jaco!!,,, He beat James Broad and Bonecrusher Smith,An old Mike Weaver and a fat Greg Page. Never beat anyone that turned out any good.Point out anyone he beat of note,, please,,, not worst fighter but he didnt have the makings of a champ.

A fight is supposed to be stopped whenever a fighter can no longer defend himself, like for example Castillo vs Corrales...Dokes could have been killed...bad ref. I like knock outs...but not senseless barbarity.

The blame lies entirely with the ref. After the first left hook razor hesitated ,probably thinking dokes was going to fall down , then he finshed him with the smash. Its clear to see that the third left hook/uppercut was not necessary, but in the heat of battle these things happen. The ref was incompetent , administering a ten count to a man who had been literally put to sleep, thus potentially endangering his life . THANK GOD FOR THE RINGSIDE DOCTORS

There was no reason to count when Dokes went down. He was starched when he got hit with that left uppercut and that's when I would have stepped in as a referee.

Referee Mercante is an utter disgrace here and should have been banned for life, less he allows a man to be killed because of his apparent complete lack of humanity. Shame on Ruddock too Say what you like but he knew the fight was over and took a cheap shot against a man who was helpless. For an example of how a champion should behave under these circumstances, watch Honeyghan against Hatcher. Now I'm gonna watch Ruddock Lewis and see Ruddock get what he deserved in return.

Referee is a moron. Instead of ending the fight at :35, he stares on at a semi conscious Mokes (who is only standing because he's against the ropes) giving Ruddock all the time in the world to set up his best punch.

Seems like Mercante Jr. was trying to finish the 10 count so it could go in the books officially as a "KO" instead of a "TKO." I think they should still be able to label the result as a KO even if the referee doesn't finish the count due to the fighter obvious being OUT. Other referees do the same. I think the referee in the Paul Williams-Sergio Martinez even kept counting when it was apparent that Williams was OUT COLD and not getting up.

Anyway, I do see the ref approaches Dokes and tries to look him in the eyes... BANG! it's over. I'm not sure if the ref is to blame..
