Wow... I'm so impressed with your work. Love the way you decorated it. Wish I could figure it out. Any chance you might teach us how you really did the decoration? I think this video was excellent. Thank you so much for sharing your awesome talent with us. Wish I could throw porcelain, but I am not ready for that yet. Loving my B-mix which is somewhat close. Thanks for showing us how to cut the bowl off the hump. I've tried and failed. now I know which string to use. Thank you so much!
Very nice! I'm quite glad I subscribed you to; very generous of you to share your wealth of knowledge with us all. You have some very interesting chattering designs as well! Also, when trimming I've seen you use small pieces of clay to hold down the pots/bowls but with others just a bit of water (much like in this video). How do you decide which one to use? I'd just be scared my piece would fly off the wheel if I didn't have clay around the edges!
I've been trying to throw more on the hump because it's faster to make alot of pieces. But I find that the bottom part of the hump, tends to get soft from the water used to work the earlier top pieces. Do you have a suggestion on how to deal with that? Am I just working too wet?
@spart: S crack, not ass-crack. It's an S shaped crack that happens when it dries or is fired. When you cone up/down on the hump, the center is stressed because it doesn't move much compared to the clay that moves on the outside. Also, when you open you've pulled the bottom apart, Some clays are alot more prone to s-crack than others. I find that squeezing the base to define where I cut off seems to help reduce S-crack. Also, if I bend the cone when I cone down, it seems to help prevent s-crack.
An extraordinarily generous artist who pays close attention to the details we often miss........always come away inspired and am so very glad to be subscribed.........priceless!
i love how in all the videos mentioning the "s" crack it sounds like ass crack.

I also didn't get the part when you add the texture.

The slip seems very white/talcy. Is that b-mix or porcelain?
