Im not sure whether to try and be a commando or officer :/ Being an officer means better pay, but i'm not exactly the brightest spark in the world and havn't completed my GCSE'S. However, being a commando requires no grades but the pay isn't good. Pay isn't everything guys, but it does help...ALOT
Gurkhas officers vs Royal Marine Officers > Discuss
Gurkhas officers have to spend 6 months with the Nepalese troops and then take officer selection and learn Nepalese. Royal marines have to do twice as much as the hardest basic infantry training in the world.
I heard that a team of royal marine commando went up agaisnt US marines and caught them napping...is that true ???I know the royal marines are tough though..My mate went in soft as shite and came out as tough as nails. Although funny thing is he went in with a bad attitude and now is a really outstanding lad..
@grikes3838 Haha yeah I read that story in a book by Rob Maylor (former Royal Marine/SASR operator). If I can remember correctly the Royal Marines were up against the U.S Marines during arctic warfare training in Norway. Apparently the U.S Marines couldn't stand the cold, so they decided to stay in their Humvee's drinking coffee and let the Royal Marines win. lol.
@SOL3953 actually i didnt know if its true or not..cos I thougth it was just one of them bullshit stories. ha ha so it is true..but the version I was told was that they were in the jungle and the US marines took a rest and was caught by a few well hid marines. Ah well all i know is that if your a twat join the Royal marines...and you come out less of a twat. Whereas if you join some other marine corp you go in decent and come out as a twat...lol..
it takes an absolute machine of a man to become a Royal Marine commando, but to become a Royal Marine Officer you have to be a complete different league of human. They are men of fucking steel!

for all british officer you in army, raf, navy you need 2-alevels and 5 gcse's. so i think you will probz need the same.
