I agree with you, luftbalons is definitely the better version... unfortunately, the song is too fast paced for me to sing in German without butchering it even MORE than usual!

The original German release is... the release with English lyrics is 99 Red Balloons. I found both, but I have no clue how to pronounce most German words. I remember when both songs came out, Nena was amazing.

I saw this music video on pop up video last week! One of the classic songs of the 80's. They said one member of the band saw a red balloon in the sky and thought of a story about a red balloon stopping a war. The first song to be sung in a foreign language (german) and then redone in english by the same band and then became a hit in the US.
