  • There were two kinds of kids when I grew up in Oklahoma, Gene Autry kids and Roy Rogers kids. I was a Gene Autry kid. I even remember seeing him when he visited my hometown, Seminole. Then I remember, too, waking up in the middle of the night when the bus I was on stopped. I opened an eye to see where we were. The sign said Chelsea, Oklahoma, the place where Will Roigers met Gene Autry. Gene was a telegrapher, I think, for the Rock Island Rail Road. Fun

  • @acblueeagle Wonderful story. I had a good friend once from Broken Arrow. Heard of it? Charlie

  • HE WAS SUCH A BIG PART OUR MY LIFE...HE WAS A DAD, AN UNCLE, A FRIEND. THANKS FOR THE IMPACT ON US KIDS OF THE 40'S AND 50'S, GENE.

I KNOW JUST ABOUT ALL THE WORDS TO ALL OF HIS SONGS.

  • This is from "Sioux City Sue", Gene's first western after his return from military service. Made in 1946 for Republic, he would make four more before being released from his contract to produce his own series at Columbia. A old friend of mine who managed a theater in Franklin, Ky., said that when Gene appeared on screen, singing this song, the entire theater gave him a standing ovation.

  • Awesome! Love this song!
