ok here is a question for any who are interested my 2000 Pontiac Sunfire has a loose exhaust pipe the muffler is not attached to the Cat lac Converter and it will not start what could this be??

I have a toyota celica st182 with 210 000 miles on the clock and with a changed valve seals it's still doing smokey stuff on cold starts, but sometimes not at all (!) and sometimes big ones...from ~1minute to 3 to 4min. of blue oil smoke. But when rewing warmed engine , there is no cloud>> What a .....?

wow thats really bad. my MR2 is burning during startup and when i go past 4000 rpms

on average i burn one quart every 200 miles. Its a leaky valve cover gasket for me.

my 96 mirage has been doing this, but only when i press on the gas usually when i stop at a light for a little bit then go, it blows this color smoke then goes away when im driving, it gets worse the more i drive the car that day though =( do i have the same problem as you? is that easy to fix? college student strapped for cash! and i know nothing about cars =( *sighs*

Sadly, there is no easy fix. In your car, since there's no turbo, it can be one of two things. Either the piston rings or valve stem seals. Both are expensive and difficult fixes. I would recommend just checking your oil level frequently and just living with the smoke if you're on a budget.

thats exactly what im doing..... it will cost me 2350 to completly rebuilt the engine on my 97 accord. so yeah i just check the oil and deal with the smoke.

@leandro5537 buy a second hand engine change it yourself you will be very proud of yourself i did with the help of some mates som cheap tools and a workshop manual,but you could study on youtube

its expensive when your engine burns pil, oil bypasses your pistons burning it, also an item called a head gasket can also be split which can also cause oil, sometimes coolant to burn up

my vic with 70k miles just started burning a little oil, this smoke comes out for about the first 5 seconds hweni start itup then goes right away. Idk, i think it has to be a simple fix cuz it doesn't hae enough miles to rquire engine rebuild.

If it burns only a little bit of oil on startup, I'm 99% sure it's the valve stem seals that are going wrong. They seals themselves are very cheap from a parts store - the labor to replace them is decently expensive.

@samakaballer try running a quart of marvel mystery oil through one full tank of gas that might free up the valve seals if it doesnt i would do a valve job on it

I was going to ask the same question too! My ca18det does the same thing but not all the time. I'm not really sure if its just cold but it does happen during sunny day??? Maybe just my oxygen sensor :(

I solved it! Its the throttle sensor. You're right, its not the o2 sensor.

I have a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid (bought in 2006) & it has some sort of oil problem. A month and a half after every oil change I check the dip stick & the oil goes from Max to Min, so I have to add oil. It's like it's burning oil or something. I have to take it to the dealer to see what's wrong with it. First I thought that they weren't putting enough oil in at the oil change but that wasn't it.

That's probably a much difference sort of problem - my Supra is 18 years old and has probably been beaten on for much of its life. Your car is new and should have so such problems.

My point is if your 19 year old merc did have an Oil burning problem, I wouldn't be surprised. But your Camry does, and that is surprising.

I don't know if it's burning the oil or it's getting stuck somewhere; but the god damn dealership said that it's not a problem. Even though I told them that I have to keep adding oil to it. Toyota's quality seems sucky to me. Not only this, but all 4 tires were bald alread; I had to buy 4 new tires & the car's 2007; retard at the dealership told me yeah these heavier hybrids tires bald much faster.The car is weak as fuck, I'm not burning rubber that's for sure. & yeah my dad's benz is still A-OK
