  • the beginning music rocks!! this was one of my faveroute acorn games :) along with phaeton, fervour, twin world and countless others!

  • Nice...Nice....

  • wow for the time that game was impressive.

  • It's actually ridiculous what the old ARM hardware can do. I was astounded that this ran on an A5000 as well as it did, but to see it on an A3010 is flabbergasting.

  • Inspired by this game I have created an updated version Space Fighter 4000 for the Xbox 360

  • @SpaceFighter4000

That is awesome, I'll be checking it out asap. Any chance of Stunt Racer 2000 too? :D

  • Thanks - would love to recreate Stunt Racer 2000 - need to see how much interest I can get for this

  • @SpaceFighter4000

Just to add is this on the Indie section? I don't think I can access XNA game like you used too. When I run the XNA it tries to sell me something!

  • @peetvanpeebles

Sorry not published yet - this is still at the demo stage - will let you know of any news

  • That title screen looks like Sega's Afterburner font..

  • god this was a great game especially on the a3010 - going up to those space stations and all!

  • It's incredible how they managed to make it playable on a machine that's barely the equivalent to an Amiga 1200. It must've been pretty impressive back in the day. Or maybe not, maybe people compared it with the superior PS1 version and concluded this port sucked.

NOTE: there is no sarcasm intended in my words, I don't want to bash this game. I just can't figure out how this version was received.

  • Just to add, I'm pretty sure the A3010 had more horsepower than the Amiga 1200, the Acorn A5000 and Risc PC had even more power. A stock A3010 is around 6 MIPs.

Star Fighter 3000 was an Acorn original game and it proved so popular and impressive that it was later ported to the PS1, Saturn, PC and 3DO I think. However I believe they did play different so the original has still remained a pure experience.

  • @peetvanpeebles From what I've seen, the 3DO version looks like it's the closest to the original.

  • @RABBIDGamfan see the wiki page! I've tried to make it as accurate as possible.

  • @peetvanpeebles Yup. Agreed. Would not be possible on an Amiga without it being incredibly slow. See the wikipedia STARFIGHTER 3000. I complied most of the page. This should set things straight. Feel free to update change the page if inaccurate or any omissions.

  • @peetvanpeebles I've played the original version, PS1 and DOS version. I see what you mean by the 'pure experience'. The original had quite some magic about it when I came to play it for the first time. I wish I had spent more time getting to know the Acorn RISC machines. Ah well.......emulation it is. ;-)

  • @peetvanpeebles however pure, the 3DO version will always reign supreme!

  • Actually, it's more of an equivalent to the Amiga 4000. And the PS1 version is the port.

  • @DevilMaster The Arch wiped the floor with the A1200, atleast in raw power.

Still have an amiga hooked up though.

  • @DevilMaster The A3010 and the Amiga 1200 are difficult to compare I think. When I came to use an Acorn RISC PC with RISC OS 3 I think, it was like nothing else I had come to use at the time. I can clearly recall that this game played very smoothly on that machine. It outclassed many machines based on the old Motorola 68000 series of processor and I am quite sure it would have been a little more powerful than the Amiga 1200. I've used both the Atari ST and Amiga. The Acorn was at another level.

  • @DevilMaster Fantastic game though isn't it.

  • I got it on PS1

  • Awesome game, just awesome! Thanks for posting.

  • I have this game installed on my acorn hard drive "!Star3000", however I lost the Floppy disk some years ago, can someone send me a zipped file of the floppy disk so I can play the game again???

  • fantastic game. Great physics and controls, morphing terrain (drop a nuke and it would flatten half a mountain) and the music score on 3DO was soo trippy!

strongly recommended for all 3DO owners

  • amazing when you think how old it is

  • one of theeee best video games I have ever played!!! Better than elite...more addictive than any game...I love it and still play it today! I hope they re-release it for the PC ...reprogram it and incorporate /Elite style stuff into it and online play as well.

    Awesome ...just AWESOME!

  • loved this game!!

  • i remember that sometimes u find a colorful tent-like thing that shoots power-ups into the air

  • The most amazing thing about this game was the high-speed 3D graphics, even on the first generation ARM2 machines.

  • ive got the 2nd version of this on my playstation... in german^^ its an AWESOME GAME

  • this is one of the first games i ever had, and i remember doing the exact same thing. flying up into space then plumeting back to earth trying to pull up at the last minute and invariably crashing. i also tried to fly through small gaps a lot. i dont think i ever actually did a mission..

  • That's amazing , looks so much better than the 3DO version (the one I got ). Bloody awesome game onthe 3DO and this version looks better :)

  • It is the origional version...but the graphics are not as good as the 3D0.

  • What a fantastic game this was!
